I’m turning 70 and have been flying crude non gps drones for over 15 years. I had some great quads of what would be considered pretty good size in comparison with those of today. I just bought one of these new Atom3 drones myself and I also can’t wait to get it! I’ve never had one with all these new features not to mention the camera. Anyway us old folks need something to do, right?

Ha ha, yes, us old folks need hobbies (I'm mid 40s) You're shocked at how good this drone is and how stable it is in the air, even in 20mph winds. Finish your photography and just press one button, and the drone will come back to you 😁 Low battery and the drone will automatically come back to you and land 😁 20+mins flying on a single battery 😁 The only negative thing about them is that they are fragile 😕 hit a tree, break the gimbal, and its probably a new drone needed. But saying that they are actually hard to crash as it's so stable in the air. Enjoy it when you get it. 👍

Yeah right !!! the guy makes alot off stuf that can make a rookie lose is drone and then they gonna cry to potensic foruns !!! First fly always with your smartphone in airplane mode !! Dont calibrate the compass with the smartphone and drone controller so near the drone !!! At least put it 1 or 2 meters away!!! and calibrate it 1 meter in the air not 20 cm !!!

Thank you very much for oyur video tutorial! I have always been fascinated by drones but never dared to buy or fly one. It always seemed to be somthing for RC specialists or something. But a few days ago I accidentially bumped into a video of the Potensic Atom 3 axis gimbal drone and looked it up online. Well, I bought one! :) It was delivered yesterday and now it's laying in front of me and I am checking KZbin for all the videos about this model. Without even flying it once (weather is bad and windy here), I am already super impressed by what I can see in those videos. For a beginner like me, your video is gold! Thanks again. @@RobinDrones Hello, Robin! Yesterday I had the chance for a short test flight of a few minutes. Wow! Flying that drone really is easier than expected. Even though I somehow didn’t something wrong with the video function - the MP4 file won’t play on my Mac. Tried different players already and tried to formate it to .mov or something - didn’t work. On my phone, in the Potensic app, I can see the thumbnail in the preview of the album. Once clicked, it starts to download it, says it was successfully downloaded but still, it only starts the download over again when I try to play the video. 3 GB of data, 8 minutes recording time. I don’t know what went wrong. Some short test video back home and inside worked well, is shown as a thumbnail too and downloads the same way. But then the screen changes to a player and I can watch that video. Doesn’t work for the test flight though. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I hope the weather will be better soon. So I can do some more flights and try all those functions of that drone. 👍🏼

Oh that sounds strange 🤔. Could you have forgotten to stop recording before turning the drone off? I've done that a few times and have lost the footage as it gets corrupted.

Flew mine for the first today. Breezy day but great stability. Landed it on a small table quite easily. Camera shake was non-existent. Going to enjoy getting to know it.

Yes, it's been very windy lately 😔 It's good, isn't it! I'd say the gimbal on the Potensic is better than my Dji mini 2 se! So easy and nice to fly the Atom. Have fun with it 👍

Thanks for posting this video. I did have a Hubsan 501, but decided it was a bit big and restricted what I wanted to do with being too far away from buildings etc. The Atom, being sub 250gms should be better and so I ordered one just !

Not sure if it's a recent update or not, but I've discovered that you can do a slow yaw by only gently pushing the left stick left or right for slow panorama. I like your style of video, very clear well done.

I wasn't able to find a listing for the phone that was utilized with the Potensic Atom. It appears to have a decent image quality in the bright sun and it fits nicely in the Atom's controller, without having to go with the rather cumbersome aftermarket cradles to hold tablets. It's dead easy to fly you'll pick it up in no time. One tip - wait until you have around 14 satellites before taking off or the drone will wander off 👍 Where are you from? @@RobinDrones I live in Crawley which is just outside of greater London. Lots of parks, lakes, woods and greenery as well as city scapes and urban areas. The value is what did it for me. My package comes with two batteries, a case etc, some others didn’t seem to have the same value. I’m fully aware there are better drones out there. But I will take a look once I’m flying and enjoying myself. Do you have any tips for general drone flying, and any recommendations for future drone purchases?

I think it's great you have personally bought the Atom and DJI se with your own money, rather than receiving a free one from the company for a you tube review come sales pro mo. Sorry not back to u sooner. Have taken the Atom 4 days now. Have found it to be fantastic, better than could have imagined. I bought the combo for£369. Have been out with a friend with dji3. He thinks the Atom is as good as dji3 after trying it himself. Have found your tutorial extremely good and easy to follow, so really enjoying using it. Thanks once more and keep up the good work. Could you recommend any strobe lights for nighttime use and darker sky's? Also we're is best place to mount on droan, is underneath ok for better visibility from the ground. Also would the strobe interfear with video image?

@user-se2vr6pm6r Yes, it's a very good drone but not as well know as Dji. I find myself using it more than my dji! I use this strobe amzn.to/42VKdr7 And yes, you can put it underneath, and no, it won't affect the camera unless you stick it on the front.

@user-se2vr6pm6r I'd stick to potensic recommendations of 10.7 m/s, which is around 23 mph it can handle more, but if you were to fly in, say 28mph wind then the gusts could be enough to tip the drone over 🫣

Yes, it's a nice touch to hear it coming home, but it's also nice to be able to deactivate it- you can't turn it off on Dji drones.

Here in Texas, we have 5 basic regions, which are, Central Texas, where I live, South Texas, where I grew up, West Texas, East Texas, and North Texas. And each have their own accents, but with other slight variations within each of those regions, depending on their ethnic origins, and their immediate subculture, etc.

I'm looking at upgrading....I have a few off brand 2 axis and 3 axis gimbal drones that fly great and take nice video and pretty reliable....but it's time....I am having a hard time deciding on this Potensic Atom or the DJI mini 2 SE....I just can't decide....I am open for suggestions....both seem like great drones.

Atom if you need tracking and waypoints. Dji mini 2 se / 4k if you want a bigger sensor (twice as big) and a better signal. Plus, you can add dji care refresh for a small fee if you get a dji. Dji is more expensive, though it's around £400 vs £314 for the flymore packages.

Most interesting little drone. I have seen some people have connection issues, especially around a lot of WiFi and cell towers. I would like one of these but I have WiFi all around my place and a cell tower just a block away. As many complaints as they have had I just bet they are working on a better transmission system on their next drone upgrade. Maybe even obstacle avoidance! I wish they would come out with their own Smart Controller with at least an 8 inch screen or at least someone would come up with a tablet mount for it. I hope to buy a good drone in the next two or three months and maybe they will have something new by then. I guess we will see. Take care. Tom

What ever drone you buy id suggest getting it from Amazon as they have a great returns policy! So i sent my single battery Atom back to Amazon just because i was so impressed with it, so i bought the flymore combo. The Potensic signal, Pixsync 3.0 is good ive not had any issues so far. Most of the other cheap drones on Amazon are just wifi. Dji have got the best signal though.

Both the controller and batteries charge very quickly. You'll be up and running in half an hour as they should be around 65% out of the box. Yes, there are 4 lights on the remote and on the charging hub. But if you don't have the hub, there is also a blinking light on each battery 👍

I believe it's more than just the gimbal, it has a different lighter battery, and the arms and motors appear to be different as if you look online for the spare arms it states "For Atom 3 axis gimbal only" But for range I think it uses exactly the same rc connection. Hope this helps 👍

Dji should have better image quality but I actually prefer the look of the Atom it's got more "punch" Dji has the more accurate colours ect.. Both fly exactly the same. Dji has a stronger signal. Atom has waypoints and tracking. To throw a spanner in the works I would pick the Fimi mini 3! It's cheaper, has an even bigger sensor than the Dji and has more features than the Atom such as 4k 60fps, Timelapse ect...

Fimi mini 3 as it has a bigger cmos sensor. Potensic Atom is still a great drone, but it's a year old now. Potensic needs to pull their finger out and release the Atom 2!

Thanks for the review Robin I've been thinking & looking at drones for a while now & just got to seriously considering buying one. Almost ordered this eve from Amazon lol. In fact your video persuaded me to put one in my basket! But it's a minefield & there's a few like yourself rate the Potensic for quality &features for the price! I would like to stretch to the 3 gimble but the Combo at £369 seems only option on Amazon. Another option might be by the single battery & an extra battery from Potensic. Failing that I am wondering about the picture quality of the Protensic Atom SE which I assume will be the same as the Atom. The video quality may be less as digital or electronically stabilised. Any help appreciated Thanks

I would suggest you get the Atom 3 Axis gimbal fly more kit, this one.. amzn.to/3HjaplC As for the se that looks OK and cheaper but the video will be all over the place. I myself made the wrong choice originally, I got the single battery one, so I was going to buy an extra battery and worked out for just a few more pounds I could get the flymore. So I sent the single battery Atom back to Amazon and bought the flymore.

I now rely on my Samsung S20 ultra which takes great shots & thought about getting a drone as I live near the coast & run boat trips. You're demonstration of using the potensic atom convinced me it was the one to get after looking at drones online which there are so many of on Amazon & didn't want to spend a lot & be disappointed. You sounded impressed & happy with the atom in terms of performance & picture quality & watching the comparison you thought it was on a par or possibly better than the DJi. I would think taking footage in RAW & post processing would make a difference to the light levels. Anyway, thanks for the videos, I watched 3 of yours. Thanks

Hi mate really enjoying your videos I bought one of these also, I was wondering can you check something on your drone When you have the gimbal pointing down at 90° if you move forwards or backwards does it shoot up to 80° automatically each time?

No, mine seems fine at 11m40 in the video I fly with the gimbal facing down, then fly forward, and it doesn't move. I expect it to move in sports mode, though, as the drone would tilt forward more, and the gimbal wouldn't be able to maintain 90 deg I will have to try that when the UK weather improves.

Yes, it's called video mode on the Atom with a max speed of 6m/s or is it 5m/s

Have you found a set of filters that will work with the gimbal? I have been looking online to find a set and so far the one that might fit is the K&F Concept filter. Let me know what you think or if you have tried any at all. Would like to be able to protect the lens on the drone. Keep up the great work!!

No, I've not tried any for the Atom. I don't think that there are any available yet. To be honest, I've only just started using Nd filters. I bought some for the avata to get motion blur with low flying in mind.

Mine doesn't show up with the data. I think there is an option to turn that on or off in the Potensic app. It may be called "video subtitles" or something like that.

I just watched a video by a guy who took his Potensic out to an open area and got 8,000 feet/ 3KM out of it without signal loss. He used Yagi antenna slipped onto the stock antennas. He also used a Sony audio recording mike and recorder system to debunk the interference from other devices. I think, in the case of the guy who keeps having problems, it is the location and interference from devices/ systems other than his own. i have had this problem when running RC cars in certain settings. Yeh, I watched that video from @dadrandom impressive result for the Atom. I noticed that the other guy, the Idiho quadcopter ch 1. He was pointing his remote the wrong way! 2. His antenna were pointing towards the ground. They both surely are not helping with with his connection issues.

Hi Robin - thank you so much for this informative video. I've been toying with the idea of getting a drone and have taken the plunge and gone for the Potensic Atom SE. It's similar to yours, but without the 3-axis gimbal. Mainly due to the price difference, but also because I'm not too bothered about images being 'level' and lastly, because I think the gimbal is too prone to be be damaged by a novice like me! I'm waiting for it to be delivered by amazon, (although I did make sure it had 'Free returns' in case I change my mind again!) I do have one question though - where does the map come from? Is it included with the app, or do you use your phone's data to access it please? Keep up the good work!

So I have just checked about the maps for you. So I turned off my WiFi and mobile data and then started the drone, and the area where I've flown before shows the map, but areas I've not flown in are extremely blurry. So it looks like the map is built into the app, and it uses data to download parts of the map when you fly. Hope this answers your question. I can see your point with the gimbal they are extremely fragile, but these drones are very hard to crash. But I would recommend a drone with a gimbal. That being said, if you're unhappy with the se, you could send it back to Amazon. I sent my Atom back just because I wanted the flymore kit instead of the basic version 😁 The atom se looks very good for the low price 👍

Ok, so I have just tried. So I took the sd card out, and no, you can't record videos or take photos at all. The only thing you can do is to use your phones screen recorder function, but then you would have all of the flight screen showing up. So you definitely need a micro sd card in the drone. With the sd card in the drone, you could then record video and take photos. Then, you can use the app to download the files to your phone. But the video will only be downloaded at 720p to the phone. If you want the full 4k, you will have to insert the sd card into a pc. I hope this helps 👍

You can download them from the drone, but the resolution will only be 720p. It's a little annoying as on a dji you can download the full 4k to your phone. It actually doesn't bother me though as I put all of my drone vids onto a PC...

Yep, that's for the strobe light. The only trouble is both bags I have use a velcro system so the batteries stick to my bag! That's what the strip is for, so they don't attach to it.

Ahh, I re-read your message, and you have the se. As the se doesn't have a gimbal, it must be already cropping into the image to allow for the stabilisation so there aren't enough pixels to zoom in anymore. whereas the Atom with gimbal is using the full sensor, so there is enough pixels to allow a digital zoom 👍

It handles great in the wind. I personally listen to the manufacturer instructions they state 10.7m/s around 23mph, and I've flown it slightly higher winds. The max speed of the drone is 35mph, so I wouldn't fly if the winds were near this figure. Watch out for the wind gusts, too. I use an app called UAV forecast to check the wind. 👍

Both are great drones and its very hard to pick between the 2 Do you go for the dji with a bigger sensor, higher bitrate, better signal and better photo modes? Or the Atom with tracking and waypoints? Both fly the same and have great image quality! Also look into the Fimi mini 3 as on paper it beats both of these! Is it normal for this drone to not hover perfectly still? After takeoff it every so slightly bobs around like it's drunk. Mine will not sit perfectly still as it seems to in your videos. You showed off the new zoom feature on one of your videos and the footage was perfectly still. When I zoom in on something from far away, there is slight movement in the footage. I've calibrated the drone and everything. Never crashed it or ran into anything so I'm sure how it would have gotten damaged. The first few times I flew it it wouks hover very still and I could take close up photos and videos without the camera whirling all over the place

Are you still struggling with this? As I remember, you said about it before on another video. On this video, there was zero wind, so the drone was steady as a rock. Have you checked all of the props and screws maybe you have a slightly bent one? Saying that my mini 2 se has a slight little sway to it but I only notice it while hovering and speeding up the fotage.

My wife has a YT channel (50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre) an I do all her photography, editing, etc. We are off to Greece for 4 weeks soon and I want to be able to incorporate some drone shots into her videos. I have flown RC gliders , so I assumed I would open the box and get flying with the drone. It's not quite like that!!!. I've done all the app training videos, now yours as well. I have written down loads of procedures (auto take off, auto land, auto land abort, etc, etc) which I plan to work through as my flight training.

It might look daunting at first, but all you do is wait for a gps lock and take off, and it basically flies itself 😃. You just have to be wary of the wind. The only reason I'm asking as when I got mine (through the Irish) iaa.mysrs.ie/auth/sign-up It wasn't instant as I had to wait a few days for my passport to be checked. It's good. It gets the job done but not quite as good as the Dji app. For instance, you can't see a signal graph, and the gimbal expo tuning is very limited. One good thing is that you can download it from the Google Play Store, unlike the dji app. So I'm thinking it's a relatively safe app 🤔

Both are rated at 6km range in CE countries, but realistically, it will be half that. But most countries only allow visual line of sight, so you must be able to see the drone. Both fly just as good as one another, max 35mph. The camera sensor size is bigger on the dji but its not 4k, and the Potensic has a faster lens. It should just automatically pick up the satellites and switch into gps mode as long as you're flying outdoors? Normally, it switches into gps mode in a few seconds, if not never more than 1 minute.

That's probably my video editing i find it incredibly difficult to sync up the videos, I normally try to sync them just as the drone is taking off but I could be off by +/- 1 second! I've not noticed any lags with the Potensic or Dji. Both on paper have a 200ms video input lag.

You looked over a setting on signal lost fuction. Its hidden. The problem is when your remote looses signal it will still goto 120m or 400 feet it will over ride your rth setting. Uncheck the signal lost setting or you will be confused why it went to 120m or 400 feet to return.. i have to uncheck it every flight. And i mean every single flight
