I love these Potlatches and the songs that are sung. So beautiful and powerful. Everyone's voices are strong. I really hope to attend one of these some day. We have our give aways, Jump Dances but it is not being kept alive by as many people. Our Tribe is losing some of it's very important traditions.

Quel peuple fantastique. Les autres hommes ont toujours un souci et beaucoup d'hésitations et de doutes à se montrer, à danser. Les Indiens vivent l'instant présent sans être inquiet dans leur tête. Je n'ai rencontré cela en Europe qu'avec les gitans espagnols..

Is this Kwakiutl? Was there a specific special occasion? I'm sure you had plenty to eat and gave gifts away too? Sorry if this sounds annoying, it's just that we are learning about this and the culture area in our Native American introduction anthropology class and it is very exciting!

Ann Nee they’re Kwakwaka’wakw people- from New Vancouver’s village. Kwakiutl is a colonial name for blanketing our people in one lump. We do have a kwagiulth village within our various Kwakwaka’wakw villages within our territories though.

@Lúcio Main Yes both the big house in Alert Bay & Fort Rupert. The one in Fort Rupert was trough a tribe member and personal invitation to witness their celebration. There is a lot of the culture preserved because of it's remote location and i thing that's a good thing..... A la 20 ième minute, le danseur effectue pratiquement une forme libre de Taï chi chuan que j'effectue moi-même de temps en temps. On pourait parler de Kung-Fu, de la même manière. Tous ce style est emprunté aux mouvments des animaux. Ici, je ressens particumièrement les mouvements de l'oiseau (quetzal). Le cri du quezal est imité par le cri du danseur, ainsi que par les vibrations de sa main devant le visage. A la 28 ième minute, les sons deviennent ensorceleurs: la volonté d'un Indien peut vous emmener dans un monde parallèlle, par exemple celui où on trouve des éléphants.. en Amérique (regardez les masques à trompe et écoutez les barissements). Il y a forcément un "maître de cérémonie" quelque part, un sorcier qui manipule le point d'assemblage de la foule présente. Allez-vous croire en tout ce que je dis ? 😏
