Van Beuren's Tom and Jerry characters aren't the inspiration names for MGM's Tom and Jerry. MGM's are named after the cocktail drink Tom and Jerry, while Van Beuren's were named after 2 characters from Pierce Egan's "Life In London" book. (that also inspired the name for the cocktail drink)
