Potterton Suprima No Heating. Boiler Breakdown Engineer.

Suprima a brilliant little boiler, had one in my house for 20 years, and its not had any parts except for 5 PCBs and 2 fans and a gas valve.

The flue core on the horizontal adaptor was aluminium which rots causing this problem. The new ones are now plastic. Easy and cheap fix.

A boiler that meant so much to ma . Pcb faults down to engineers being to heavy a handed. A 5 hour full strip down service and I could have a suprima brand new again.

Suprimas get a lot of hate but i really like the old ones, nice neat compact boiler. great appliances if you've got an outbuilding to house them.

Back in the day (90's) when those old ones were new, I no end of grief with breakdowns on new boilers, boards mainly, in the end potty came up with a retrofit that involved changing the whole boiler wiring harness and a completely different board IIRC. Agreed: garrages were the best place for them, Easy to work on though compared to some current stuff.......

@@julianhawker7672 it was due to the PCB getting too hot believe it or not cause it was right next to a boiler (who would of thought of that) hence the cassette came out

It was never a good idea turning a standard Suprima into a HE appliance. Condemned so many of these, just not worth spending 💰 on ! Luckily its not a 70-80HE as would have a £269 DC fan on top of the bill & very common when the turret fails..

Thats not been serviced for a very long time. Safely inspection at best but never dismantled and properly serviced.

Unfortunately, Potterton lost their way when they "improved the Prima/ Profile range". DC gas valve to overcome the original AC valve issues, pcb issues and fan related problems which Potterton failed to resolve let alone fully accept! Such a shame, because, after the glowworm fuelsaver range the prima/profile range was bomb proof. Now we have the latest generation of "high tec, high efficiency boilers" that it seems we accept a 10-12year economic life span as acceptable!
