As always, great video. I will have to experiment with the River Birch. You made a great statement regarding pouring vs. brushing glazes - I've always been hesitant to pour since I try to make my glazes last longer and not waste as much, but your statement about the time you save pouring really resonated with me. I will have to try this. Thank you!

Thank you so much. Welcome to the wonderful world of crafting pottery. I'm happy to help you on your journey of learning the skill. This is the closest video I have on moving the clay out and collaring it in right now. Here is the link for you kzbin.info/www/bejne/npmufWuVnceGeMk The trick is to make sure you leave enough clay on the rim, Don't let the rim get too thin. You can always take the clay off, but you can't add it. Collar in will with both hands, then pull up the walls of the bottleneck. Collar in and pull up. The clay gets thicker when you collar it in, giving you enough clay to work with. Hope this helps.
@defyant1

Hello, thank you so much for all your vidéos.. I am starting with ceramics and I learn many from you. I have a question. I want to purchase the Amaco brush on potters choice glaze. Where I want to buy, there is a notice that said (safety warning tableware producers must test all finish ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing température and contamination) What does that mean please?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Thank you Marie. Good question. I have actually spoke to a representative about that a year ago. He had stated that they must make that statement because customers may mix food safe glazes with other glazes and or not fire to the proper temperature.

When I pour over a mug, I pour the contents of the bowl back into the manufacturer 's jar. Do you? Are you concerned about the crackle sodium contaminating the remainder of the glaze? Thank you for your videos! I love how you show the fired piece after you glaze. 🎉
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 9 ай бұрын
Hi Sally. Yes I do same thing. I even use a splash of distilled water to get the rest of the glaze back in the bottle. Good question. Only if the greenware with sodium silicate was glazed and single fired. The mug with the sodium silicate was bisque fired and washed. 😊

@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
No Problem. Good question Yes you can. The only problem I can foresee happening is the clay and glaze may not expand and contract together in the kiln and you may get crazing. I would suggest doing a test fire with the clay and glaze first. 😊

Really useful videos. thank you. When you say you fire cone 6 with 20 min hold do you set your own program or just use Skutt pre-programmed? If you use the pre-programmed option do you choose slow, medium or fast, and is the hold at the very end? Thanks so much!

Sorry… I meant to write cone 5.

Yes. I choose medium and the hold is at the end. This helps the glaze heal and evens out the temperature in the kiln.

Hi I wanted to ask can i apply clear glaze on top of amaco glaze food safe ones ?and what’s the difference between amaco food safe glaze and under glaze withe clear glaze on top ?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can, but it wouldn't add any extra benefit unless you want to add shine to a matte glaze. There is no difference. They both seal the pottery. And the clear glaze seals the underglaze. Unless the clear glaze does not say food safe or dinnerware safe. 😊

Are glazes with crystals food safe?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 9 ай бұрын
That is a very good Question. If the crystal levels in the glaze are below the established limits, the glaze can be marked as "Food Safe." The crystals in the glaze can create crevices and nooks that can trap food even after washing. 😊
