Hello, thank you for this review. Al Johnsen, who invented the Scott Creek Extruder was my uncle. He named the extruder after the name of his pottery studio located along Scott Creek in the redwoods of Davenport California just north of Santa Cruz. I had the pleasure of visiting several times on summer vacation trips. Al also taught ceramics at the University of Santa Cruz, and enjoyed traveling the world to help his students set up their studios. It a pleasure to see his creativity continue to benefit the artists of the 21st century.

Hello Marie, Your video are very relaxing to watch, thank you for making them. I just received my first wheel for my birthday/christmas (a Shimpo VL-Whisper!!) & i am very excited, but a little nervous to get started throwing. I am wondering if you'd be willing to do a video of project requirements - start to finish - for making something simple from the wheel, or things you think we should have to get started.. Maybe starting with best clay for beginners to use, tools to purchase for beginners, dry time, cone size and temperatures, etc. That would be very helpful as i am shopping/researching items i need before i can begin my first project. A warm thank you again for your videos & i hope you have a wonderful holiday season

Hello! Thank you for this video, but could you please let us know if the nidec extruder gets also the air out from the clay when pushing? Or not really?
@PotteryCrafters5 ай бұрын
Hello. Yes the Nidec does get the air out. The biggest difference for me is that the Scott creek tube never needs cleaning. I have to run a sponge through the Nidec tube to get the extra clay off the sides. 😊
@norbertbigu28125 ай бұрын
@@PotteryCrafters I see, still for me the most important part is that it gets the air out! Thank you very much for your help!

Hi! I purchased the ceramic shop extruder and, unfortunately, the plunger washer is too small, and leaves a LOT of clay in the barrel. Out of these two extruders which one do you find leaves the least amount of clay behind in the barrel after you've extruded it? Thanks for the video. Perfect timing for me!

Hi Robert, You want to form your handles then set them a side until cup and handle are leather hard. Then score and slip them together.

👋QUESTION!👋 I am making a piece that I want to hang by a tab or handle for part of a fountain. It needs to be able to bare water weight. The largest is about 2.5 gallons. Any advice on: how chunky I should go? Ideas about making something heavy duty look visually . . . ?. . . daintier, without sacrificing strength? Is there any added strength in adding a little vinegar to the slip when attaching or just standard hatch a slip it up? My brain is in creative up-chuck mode. Ideas are coming together. Doodles are being made. I would be so bummed if I failed at the structural engineering part of this thing. I'm hoping you can help mitigate some of the, "this is how not to do it." lessons. While valuable, at times, soul crushing.
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
That sounds really cool. I would suggest using Soldate 60 | Cone 10 | Laguna Clay with grog for extra strength. Here is the link for you to check out. geni.us/pDm6Qpb I think a third of an inch will be fine. You don't want to go too thick or too thin. Make sure you score and slip well with the same clay. and I would add vinegar for extra bonding strength. That is a good idea. I wish you all the best. Enjoy the process. 😊

I know what you are talking about. These geni.us/K5CJH Sorry I missed the word hollow. You place the barrel in the end of the tube and the middle die is attached with a little screw and use an allen wrench to secure it into place then place the outer die on top and put the cap on. 😊

Pretty sure the blank is meant to be for sealing the gun, so you can leave clay in it. I made my own from a caulking gun, and just put some tape over the die end.

That's great. They sure make making handles easy. 😊 This is from the Scott creek extruder (Included in the box is a 1/2″ aluminum coil die and two blank aluminum dies for you to customize to your needs) I had a friend drill two smaller holes for me.

I would not trade my Nidec for any other hand-held extruder! One word of caution however, is that the screw holding the white round plastic piece came off without my knowing and ended up in my Peter Pugger!! Fortunately, I heard an unfamiliar noise, turned it off and dug out the clay to find....a screw....THE screw! The damage might have been severe, but wasn't AND now I check this screw often!!!
