Hello Marie, thanks for another super useful video. Can drywall also be used to make shelves? I use pine shelves but they end up warping.

Would it be a good idea to put kiln wash on the back of the ware board?
@PotteryCrafters2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra. That is a good question. No. Because Kiln wash is only useful in the kiln to protect your kiln shelves by preventing the melting glaze from sticking to the kiln shelves. If you haven't seen it. Here is a video on protecting your kiln shelves kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaSQnKSMh72bopo

Hi. I’m fairly new to pottery (started my clay journey in January 2022). I’ve been learning a lot from your videos 🙂. I just threw my first lidded piece and I can’t wait to get it glazed and fired 🙂. Thank you for all your great content

@@PotteryCrafters I lost my lidded piece when I was trimming 🙁. I was too impatient and didn’t wait for it to be leather hard and it fell and smooshed. Lesson learned. Patience is a virtue. It’s ok though. I’ll just make another one 🙂. I try not to get too invested in a piece at this point because I know it’s not finished until it’s finished 🙂

Working with pottery is helping with my perfectionism. I can’t say that it’s healed because I still want everything to be perfect. I’m learning to accept that handmade things are not going to be absolutely perfect in every way to everybody. It has helped me to apply that to my life as well ❤️

Do you use your drywall ware boards for wedging and/or hand building?
@PotteryCrafters2 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna. Good question. No, I don't. I use a half-inch 2 by 4 piece of maple wood that I clamp to my work table with C-Clamps. Then when I glaze I take the wood off my work table. 😊

Just yesterday my bid won at auction for a Cress FX23P. I have never fired any kind of kiln so this makes me a bit nervous. It’s manual with a kiln sitter, so i know it won’t be as easy as pushing a few buttons. Any help you can givewill be greatly appreciated.
@PotteryCrafters4 жыл бұрын
Congratulations 😃So happy for you. It's pretty easy. Just get the small pyrometric cones that you want to fire to and the kiln will stop when the pyrometric cone hits the temperature and bends. Don't know if you have seen this but it may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKXHpXV7rbOjp7s 😍

Thank you for the info on drywall ware boards. What do you use as a portable work surface?
@PotteryCrafters4 жыл бұрын
Good question Idelle. 😊 I got my portable boards at Lowes. You can get 2 by 2 or 2 by 4 - half-inch thick or quarter-inch-thick pieces of oak, maple, or plywood. then I secure it to my table with C-Clamps. These boards come in handy. I flip mine around and use a separate one for my colored clay and glazing 😊

Hi there. Love your videos! I have one question. I have used drywall with clay a few times, but the paper seems to disintegrate quickly. Why this material instead of plywood?
@PotteryCrafters2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Lisa. That is a good question. Plywood is also good to use. I like drywall because it's easy to cut into the sizes I like. Yes, you have to be careful not to get the drywall paper too wet. I put newspaper over the drywall ware boards when I'm working with wet clay. 😊

Hi! I like your videos- they’re very informative! What do you use as a working board (for wedging, building etc.) I take it burlock is not practical as it doesn’t take humidity very well? My name is Beatriz btw.
@PotteryCrafters4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Beatriz 💖 I use a piece of oak wood that I got from Lowes. It is 2 feet by 3 feet and a half-inch thick. I use C-clamps to hold it in place on my table. It works well and absorbs the moisture well also. 😍
@Odette_1124 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing this very informative video! :) Do you think I could cut small shapes out of clay with an exacto knife directly on the board (so I don’t have to handle it by transferring the delicate pieces)? Also, in another video I noticed you use newspaper to dry between boards, but will it definitely stick if you don’t use newspaper?
@PotteryCrafters4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 Good question, yes you can cut right on the ware board just put newspaper down so you don't cut into the board. Yes, I put newspaper down so the clay doesn't stick. 😊 No, the clay will only stick to the board if the clay is real moist.
