I like my planters rather wide and not too tall and narrow, so 1 and 7 were my favourites... rest in peace 😂
@erikaplante-jean77455 күн бұрын
I don't understand why you didn't make saucers. What happen if it's not exactly the same as the pot? Is it just for the esthetic? I would not mind it. I prefer that over adding a plastic saucer or one that doesn't match at all. I vote for saucers with the rest of the reclaim!
@javabeanstudio2 күн бұрын
Especially since the customer knows they're getting a handmade pot made from reclaimed clay!! Surely a mismatched saucer is part of the charm?
@sleepmore8587Күн бұрын
It did not look like there was enough clay left for that . Saucers always need more clay than you expect

I was taught to throw planters with a narrower bottom than the top. If the plant gets root bound, it can come out of the pot without having to break the pot or ruin the plant. Food for thought.

I paint, rather than pottery, but I have a couple of damaged canvases that I'm currently cutting into pieces to assemble onto greeting cards, so it feels a bit like "reclaim" as well.

Thanks in part to you, I'll be taking my first beginner pottery-throwing class in a couple weeks. :) It includes the clay, and glazing and firing up to three pieces you make. I'm excited. If I like it enough I may take one of their multi-class beginner courses and/or get membership at the local nonprofit art studio it takes place in so I can make more things.

I think a good way to use up alot of reclaim is to make some Japanese tea mugs. The shape is pretty easy, but what makes them stand out is the glaze, so basically its 2 birds with 1 stone thing. It's a good good way to practice making some unique glazes and use up thay reclaim.

When potting a plant, it's really good to consider ease of un-potting, later, when the plant grows larger. That means, imo, the top should be the widest point, and the bottom, the smallest. #4 was my fave :)
@theabristlebroom43785 күн бұрын
I like 2, 4, 5, and 6; and the blue glaze. Because I like there to be a sense of secruity when I pick up a potted plant, the pots whose rims are wider ( or which had a narrow waist) are the ones I like. But after thinking about getting a plant out of it, I narrowed it down to 4 and 7.

2) thrown in one piece? Several of your bags of reclaim seem to have enough to make more than one piece out of them. Also, you can make planters with built-in dishes, have you never done that?

Just if its any background info, my reasoning for liking #8 the best is that it was just the *perfect* shaped pot. Even though it feels like its easy to find a pot shaped like that at a commercial store, in reality its frustrating and saddening because the ones sold in stores are usually always either too simple or too trendy, but to me a pot that shape was great because it was wide to fit a plant with very ample space for root growth and circular which gave it a very cute stout feel, but the practicalness of it didnt make it too flashy which is what im always looking for, but! I do understand that my opinions are very specific so im not too hurt and understand the value and business decision to go with a popular vote.

5 is my favorite! I also liked 1, 2 and 7 but these were the first ones you smashed! Have you tried making bonsai pots or pots with similar geometry - wide and shallow? I like 1, 5, 7, and 8. Though i am choosing based on what i think my plants roots would enjoy living in, not purely aesthetics. Also knowing they don’t have saucers, i am pretending they are outer pots that would have nursery pots inside. Personally, i find it harder to find suitable saucers than it is to find pots (second hand). So i am currently short on saucers. I would therefore rather have an outer pot with no drainage holes (like to use the whole pot as a saucer) and keep the plastic inner pot that can be removed for drainage.
