Potting Off Other Balls in Pool | Pool School

In this video we look at various ways we can pot a ball indirectly by playing off an opponents ball or by playing of one of our own balls and striking another with the white. We use what we learnt in the video "Where's the cue ball going" to calculate the path of our ball after it strikes another and then into the pocket. This technique can be useful when we can't pot any off our balls directly into a pocket or perhaps to pot one of our balls that is blocked by an opponents ball.
The shots are carried out on a 7ft UK 8 ball table.

Could you do a video on how to do shots when you need to hit the ball hard but also pot it. I find quite open when its required to hit the ball hard to pot it because you need to get up the table or something I dont know how to go about these pots. For example I have 2 shots from baulk line and one ball there but need to get up the table to be able to pot the next shot . If I hit it normally softly I might snooker myself so I know I need to hit it hard to get up the table but I also know if it hit it hard or too hard it will rattle off the pocket and not go in. So what do you do with these kind of shots.

I'm not quite sure on the set up you are describing, maybe you could draw me a diagram and post it on my facebook page? Sometimes there are just situations where you have to accept that hitting the ball hard means you will miss the pot. If at a narrow angle to a pocket, it doesn't matter how accurate you are, if you hit it too hard you WILL miss. If that is the case then you need to weigh up your options. Do I play for a snooker instead of going for the pot? Can I pot it gently and then go for a snooker? Do I really need to hit it hard? if you have an angle you might be able to come off some cushions with some running side with hitting the ball as hard as you think. It's hard to give an absolute answer because every situation is different. The key thing to remember though, is if you know by hitting it hard you will miss, then it's probably best not to do it and hope that somehow you don't!

What happens if you pocket the opponents ball on a legal shot and you miss your own ball. Is it ball in hand for the next player. Or does the ball remain where it sits? Speaking 8 ball professional rules.

It is just loss of turn and the cue ball remains where it is, even if your opponent is snookered.
