Great advice. I used the leash when my cavalier resisted going to the toilet outside after or during rain and it worked.

This was super helpful! We got our pup a month or two ago and he's been having issues with going potty inside. In the past, we have used punishment with our dogs for going potty inside, and it has worked for them. We haven't done it much at all for the pup, so it's good to know we were on the right track, because cavaliers don't really get negative reinforcement. I'll be using the treats from now on!

Glad it helped. No dog needs punishment. ;) 100% supervision, frequent potty breaks and crate training will get you there. :)

Thanks.Nothing. Just clean it up. ANy kind of punishment typically teaches a dog to be afraid to potty in front of humans. More potty breaks.

On. October 7th my adult granddaughter and her mother will be driving 2 6:13 1/2 hours to stay with her dad. As luck would have it I had unbeknownst to me I had finally found an AKC breeder of the tricolor female pup. She’s 5 months old all the important tests, shots vet records and proper documentation is in place. The issue that worries me is that she goes potty through a doggy door. I have brick fencing throughout my house except two wrought iron gates plus one neighbor whose fence is also wrought iron. I cannot install a doggy door. I live in a valley of the Sonoran desert. I hear dozens of coyotes during the night throughout my gated senior community plus I’ve seen large javelinas in my driveways. I get my yard sprayed but once in a great with scorpions and black widows show up. My immediate neighbor has a huge beautiful German shepherd too. The fence between this particular neighborhood shares 6:13 6:13 is wrought iron. With plenty of space for a mishap to happen. I have an 8 year old Havanese and they are not friendly between them. How do I start to retrain her to alert me of her potty needs? I had another Havanese a half sister of my Male but, lost her a year ago to a collapsed trachea. 😢. She would easily fit through the fence bars. I will need to crate train her to sleep in a secure environment as well.

I don't train to alert to go potty. I just take puppies, then adult dogs potty frequently on leash.

Im going to call you today. I have a 5month old male Cavalier and he pees outside, but loves to come in a poop inside. Hes finds spots behind furniture or in spare rooms to poop in. He also doesnt eat his food right away in the am? Advice would be wondeful! My area code is 248!
