Looked like a great way to spend the day. That catback moaning drone is deafening.

We just today went up corkscrew And Down Poughkeepsie gulchin our 2007 Xterra. I am sold on the Xterra now. . Going down was an adventure to say the least. Especially when we came to the spot of all the little boulders...... looked impossible and impassable but we did great! Wish I had video. Wasn't so sure we would make it thru. Not another sole other than 4 wheeler side by sides coming up the poughkeepsie. ??? Is black bear harder? Scarier? Or does the folks out there think we could. We gave the Nissan Xterra a good test today. Engineer was a piece f cake compared to afore mentioned

Sounds like a great trip. Black Bear Pass is more mental than physically hard. There are a few places close to the steps that can be tippy if the wrong line is taken. Other than that just take your time coming down the switchbacks and alway put it in park with the e-brake on when stopping. It shouldn’t be an issue for the rig.

Video quality is great, but needs some talking through those trails, maybe what waypoint are you at.. I don’t live out there but heading that way pretty soon

Looks sweet! I accidently went on this trail with my pretty much stock 2017 Land Rover Discovery thinking it was a different trail not knowing the difficulty. I actually went quite far fairly easily then just got to a point where I just felt a bit uncomfortable trying to clear an obstacle off camber with a sheer drop off to the right of me. lol. Trying to get to Animas Fork area I should have gone from the south from Silverton as I know see or here its way easier to get onto the Alpine Loop that way.

I am glad we worked it into our Alpine Loop day. Thanks for checking out the video.

Darn I wanted to do Poughkeepsie and the rest of the loop in June this year but we didn't have anyone else to go with. Seems like maybe we would have just run into some folks. Any thoughts on if a stock sport Gladiator could make Poughkeepsie with the LSD rear? We did Ophir and that was no problem (just one quick belly scrape) but I hear Poughkeepsie is tougher. Definitely plan on returning in a year or so to do more runs! Thanks a lot for the video.

I am sure with a bit of help you would be fine but may have to bypass the wall and will definitely scrape the belly in a fee spots. There are always people on the trail during the summer months. There are Facebook groups to help coordinate runs.

Amazing video! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to run both trails? My wife and I will be heading to Moab mid September. We're going to wheel a few days there before heading over to Durango for a few days. We were looking to do Black Bear Pass and Imogene pass on the 17th. If the weather has BBP closed though, I'm going to be looking for alternatives.

Thanks! It took about 10 hours to get through both Poughkeepsie Gulch and the Alpine Loop. We started near Ouray and ended in Silverton. We really took our time and explored a lot of the areas.

Hahaha. Me and my wife and kid are practically doing the same on the same dates 😂 Salt Lake City on Sept 10th to Moab, Telluride, Durango, Ouray and from Ouray taking the "easy way" to Odom Point and Engineer Pass to Lake City. See You on the trail and have fun!

@@malysa1984 Yup! We're heading to Moab from Fort Worth on 9/11. We will wheel in Moab the 13th-15th. Heading to Durango on the 16th. Hitting Black Bear Pass and Imogene Pass on the 17th, as long as the weather holds out. Depending on how the wife and I feel, we may try to fit Alpine Loop and Poughskeepie Gulch a day or two later. We'll be heading back to FW on the 20th.

Hey guys look up Western Slope 4 Wheelers on Facebook. We are based out of Montrose and have adopted quite a few trails in the area. If you post that you wouldn’t mind having some company you might get a couple of locals to join you. Heck, I might join you! 😁 BTW, there is a club run on Poughkeepsie Sept 12th. We welcome non members. Details are on the calendar on WS4W.com
