I was thinking of growing some grasses this year, as my chickens are not able to move around the property and they dug up all the grass already. Thank you for this info!

Excellent!! I appreciate this video, as I have fermented some grains in the past, but this gives me more clarity in how to make fodder to benefit the chickens. Poor hubby...another project 🤣 Okay, I could make the frame work, which I need him for, but I don't want him to feel left out. 🤣 Again, great info. and Thank you!!!

Great video, thank you for sharing! Quick question; how do you keep mold from entering your system? Are you using a small amount of bleach when you do your initial soak? I have had issues with this in the past and curious as to how you avoid it. Thanks!
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 3 ай бұрын
I have never had an issue with mold. I have read that others add a cap full of bleach to the system.

All that starch turning to sugar, must be a sweet treat for the birds Curious as to your view on growing sorghum as animal feed for chickens. Yes? No? Depends?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 4 ай бұрын
Sorghum is great for the chickens. I gave the grain heads of our sorghum patch to ours when we used the canes for syrup. They ate it up. I have never tried to sprout sorghum grains though.

I noticed at the end, some of your hens had feathers missing and pink colored medicine applied to a couple. I assume that is from a rooster. I have that going on with 4 of my hens and assume that it may be from my 2nd rooster that is not the alpha. What is your take on it?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 4 ай бұрын
I don't have any medicine on the chickens. Some have a few missing feathers on their backs from the rooster mounting them. Chickens lose feathers for many reasons including preening, calcium deficiency, bullying from other hens, disease, molting, and mating.

Along with the sprouted seeds...Are you also giving them chicken feed? I bet they are requiring much less chicken feed. Do you have an idea about how much $ you are saving?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 4 ай бұрын
Yes, I give them some feed too. I haven't done the calculation on the savings.

Morning 🌄 happy Thursday! Any ideas on chickens with sour crop or impacted crop. I think it's the former. Been helping her throw up, keeping her solo without food, giving her ginger/apple cider vinegar water, and Greek yogurt, which she doesn't seem to want. If not all good. Thanks for all you do 🙏
@CountryLivingExperience

Sounds like you are doing all the right things for her. Just continue and monitor her.

@@CountryLivingExperience thank you, do you know if I should be feeding her regular crumble in addition, since she doesn't want the yogurt? I heard food makes it worse but I don't want her to starve. I wish I had a vet friend for access to meds for cheap, but don't we all 🤣
@CountryLivingExperience

Try some crumble with water mixed in so it is like a sludge. It will be easier for her to get down.

Do you think you will ever mix/make your own chicken feed? will it be cheaper to do that instead of getting the 40-50-pound bags?

I am not sure. I have not worked out the math on doing something like that. I also don't have a lot of time to make it myself.

Can you just mow or cut or clip the top few inches off the fodder and feed those clippings to the chickens and continuously grow the fodder non-stop for a forever food or what would need to be done to do so??
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 4 ай бұрын
No. The seed will run out of energy. The sprouted seed is also the most nutritious part.

Go to your local country feed store. Ask for wheat seed
@southernyankeeprepper
@southernyankeeprepper 4 ай бұрын
@@CountryLivingExperience one more question.. before feeding the fodder to the chickens, can you just "cut" or clip a few inches of the top and feed them the clippings and just reuse the same fodder as long as you keep it watered to reuse as a never ending supply as it regrows over and over??
@QueenBee-qd7vx
@QueenBee-qd7vx 4 ай бұрын
I would say that you'd have to do it in dirt if you want to do that.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 4 ай бұрын
@@southernyankeeprepper No, that won't work. The seed only has so much energy within it. It also contains the most nutrients so that is the best part to feed to them.

I am getting 16 chicks early April and want to Sprout grain for them. Do you use this in place of dry grain, 100%? Also do you have any problems with parasites with feeding on the ground? We have goats and never can feed on the ground as parasites live in the ground and dew.
