From an old contractor with 40 plus years of practice (as a dr would say, ) 28 days is when concrete reaches maximum initial strength. I think with what you are doing 10 days would be safe. Also you should use a hand float the first time or two over. Then switch to the steel trowel you were using. Steel trowels are for finishing, where the floats work better at the beginning. It makes a much flatter slab do to the fact it floats the very top of the surface and pushes the rock down leaving more cement and fines on top. After 3 times over with the steel trowel after floating it will be smooth as glass. Enjoy you and your family feeding bottle (pet) calves. Keep them videos coming .

Watching you work with your Dad brought back memories of working with my dad on the farm. We had a dairy farm when I was growing up and I enjoyed being along side my dad- even though I'm a girl. My dad passed away at 62, I am now 61 and I'm forever grateful for the memories of working with him. Thanks for sharing your dad today. The concrete looks great!

I can knlyvreiterate my previous advice frkm a life long dairy farmer experience and that is to teach the calfcto dropbto its knees to feed off those low hanging back teats. At its height he won't feed off those teats standing up as the angle required will cut offcthe milk supply. He needs to be lower to draw the milk down. This was taughtgto me by my Dad who dairy farmed as a Town Milk Supplier till he was 80 !!! Sure hope you read this and it helps. 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👌👍✌️👏🇺🇸

Here's a quick lesson in concrete curing info. I am a retired as a civil engineer with a specialty in concrete High rise construction. The concrete you poured most likely had a design compressive strength about 3000 psi. Unless you ordered something stronger. The design compressive strength is given as concrete poured and cured for 28 days. Industry standards will allow for 75% of that at 7 days. During the curing process the concrete should be kept wet. Your plastic covering helps by preventing water from evaporating. I would suggest at least 7 days of curing before you start using it or expecting drilled in anchors to hold tight. If you put in load cells or set the chute you can still keep it wet for the full 28 days. Hope that helps. I love your videos keep them coming.

Excellente sir,your english is much better than what is mine. And I just would like to ad this,I’m not shure how is called on english but you have one over there,2 component silikone cement,for anchoring those bolts if it is necesary and with out making presure for that cement on the edge. We just call that Chemical cement an it cures like in 20mins or so.

Whoever come up with that concrete buggy is a genius used to pour a lot of concrete in Cincinnati Ohio farmer Tyler Ranch you need to get rid of that steel trowel in by IU a magnesium aluminum float for finishing your concrete you will get a much better looking slab when you cover a slab burlap works the best

Concrete cures to 70% of it's strength in 7 days, and to approximately 100% of it's strength in 28 days. The longer you can keep it wet and covered, the better off it will be for it's strength. Concrete strength is greatest in compression, so you could place your chute on it after a few days, but I wouldn't go drilling any anchors into it until at least the 5-7 day mark, and its possible that even after 7 days, running cattle through the chute after 7 days would probably put too much stress on the anchors if the cattle were to crunch the side of the chute with any kind of force. If it was me I would wait until the 25-28 day mark to install anchors and you don't want to do that, so your only other option is to use the old chute until you get the cattle moved, and use the new chute down the road some time !! Just the opinion of a former construction inspector.

Nice! Beware, your skin will peel off and takes months to get out of the effect of contact with cement...... my feet skin took more then 6-months to become normal...... constant peeling and dryness. Good to watch your enterprising episodes managing your cattle.

I’ve never seen one of those concrete buggies before. That’s a heck of an idea for small pours. Just a tip, get a magnesium hand float. After you screed the concrete, use the float to help bring the cream to the top. When it starts to set then use the trowel to finish it. You can make it slick as glass if you want.

The slab looks great. I’m no expert by any means but I thought you should wait a week at least before working on the slab. But I don’t really know for sure. They would know where you bought your concert and mixer. Lol, had to laugh when you were talking about if it’s worth switching out the chute, and you said, “I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t think it was”. EXACTLY! Lol. Thanks for including the calf and whether he’s got a problem with his eyesight, I was wondering and hoping you would say something. We could see that he can see you at least with one eye because he did walk up to you when you were there with the bottle. I hope he learns to nurse from the other rear quarters. Thanks for sharing! Concedering the thiknes of the concrete and that is not blanket in the “air” but at ground the lower layers will cure much slower,for working on it is fine fiew days,for drilling or any force puting on concrete which is having soft ground under you need at least 2 days per inch,and I’m serious about that.

A magnesium float works better to start with, then use a steel trowel to finish the concrete slab. Wait at least a week before you set your shoot on the slab. It takes 30 days to get the designed strength. Concrete continues to cure for years !

I believe the horizontal lines in your shoot exit ramp appear to be a cattle guard to your cows. I've wanted to mention this since I first saw them jumping over it. True story, bra. Maybe fill in the lines with something non-skid and paint the entire exit ramp green? Good luck.

Rule of thumb is concreat reaches its full strength at 21 days unless you add "early high strength "chemical. . First time i had seen a "Rental cement mixer". Neat idea.

I live in Tulare county ,a few hours from where you live and I see pheasants pretty often. They get released for hunting and the ones that manage to get away end up breeding and sometimes we see hens with the chicks

That concrete mixer is a great idea for a job like yours. Otherwise you would be spending days using a small mixer. Someone had a brilliant idea here! I would have been inclined to leave those ridges to give a better grip for the cattle, but I assume you know better than me.

In all my years FTR it's been 28 days for Max Strength in common concrete. But for your needs with screws 7 days.But for Red Heads near the edges I would go with the full 28 ! For those EASTERNER'S it's "OAK LEAF POISON IVY" just a different leaf shape out here in the west.

You've mentioned being in the market for a Dairy Cow. Would a portable milking rig be a decent investment for cases like this? I've seen them on Amazon for $150ish. Seems like that would relieve that cow faster and produce a bigger surplus you could use for the bottle calves -- as well as being a resource if you get a real milker.

I understand that smooth concrete will be easier to clean. Smooth concrete will also be easier for the cattle and you to slip on. I would have wanted a rougher surface. I hope it works out for you.
