About Us:
We are a homeschool and homesteading family of 6 that farms our 1 acre permaculture organic acre in WA State. We are currently building on our new 20 acre homestead in North Idaho. We garden, seed save, raise meat rabbits, raise chickens, process our own meat, save our own seed, can, bake, and do just about everything that we can ourselves to achieve a self sufficient and debt free life for our family.

I wantbto tellbyou something that is very personal, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I have stage 4 cancer, and nights are very lonely. Since Ive found your family I watch you every night. .just seeing the wonderful green spaces and how happy is, really takes your mind off things. I am a strong Christian, and I know I'm in his hands. I know that me finding you wasnt an accident.

One of our sitters left our back door open for a week. Not just unlocked, standing open in the middle of summer with the a/c on. Another one drove our vehicle around all week and her drivers licence was expired then we found out she was on at least four kinds of drugs for mental problems of various sorts and was prone to memory lapses. But I figure your cat story tops ours!
@GoodSimpleLiving

@@JamesCouch777 oh man, I think yours are worse!! This was actually our fault completely! We left the cat inside, because in our rush to leave and load up she snuck in, and hid. We didn't even consider it a possibility, because she's an outdoor cat. It was our wonderful neighbor/farm sitter that saw her through the window 7 days into the trip, and thankfully had a key! @@GoodSimpleLiving A water proof cover would probably do. A garbage can cover, maybe. Concrete sealant would also help. Mine was under the snow that I pushed off the driveway. When the snow melted, the hand prints were all busted up. I had cut the slab out of a back patio in California 12 years prior. I had moved it out from the storm breeze way and forgot to move it back for winter. 20 year old hand prints were gone. I'm jealous. We had to sell our 12 acres and cabin by New Meadows and move back to Meridian for medical/health reasons. Put the rugs over a screen and flush water through the stain.

I did not see any column footers for your 1st floor beams. I would have figured at least 2 on each of those interior grade beams. Not sure what they call them out west. I hope your floors do not sag later on. Outside footers look to be 24" wide and interior ones 12" . Since it sounds like a single foor home, maybe load isn't enough for deeper footings? Are you going to have access to that area, say for food storage? You said a pantry will be near kitchen, so maybe not? That would make a nice extra large area for your canning. I would love to see some floor plans and perspective drawings! I a carpenter (framer) by trade and love construction. I don't mean to second guess your builder, just wondering. Looking good so far. Jinxed yourself on that family corner stone when you said you hope it doesn't crack. I wonder why it did crack. A new one will be ok. Maybe you could make a mold of the old one and pour a new one? I can't remember where the cracks were in video your showed it being cracked. Do it 1 year later on same day, that would make it more special too. You guys have a lovely family and I hope all the best to! PS Tell your daughter I watched some of her videos and she has a very nice voice!

Sorry about the cat situation. That sucks. I saw in another video the cornerstone broke. I’m learning the hard way about speaking things I fear out loud. There’s a verse somewhere in the bible about it.

Do you talk about general pricing for those looking to do what you are doing in the future. Like general land pricing, animal expenses, and house builds. Nothing personal of course.

Would you say it’s more expensive to buy a house already built- property or not, or building your own?
@GoodSimpleLiving
@GoodSimpleLiving 4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you buy or build. Building can really add up though, especially when you start adding barns and fencing.

americans would walk through fire to use the word 'homestead'... they'd even drop to their knees and crawl through the fire to add 'off grid' too. i'm joking obviously, i hope things go great with your lovely home
@GoodSimpleLiving
@GoodSimpleLiving 5 жыл бұрын
Well this is off grid, and we do homestead currently. Homestead is a funny word. It doesn't mean what it use to mean before grocery stores and building supply stores. I think it's become a general term used to describe growing and raising your own food, using your land to sustain you the best you can, and getting back to simpler ways to doing things. We aren't pioneers by any means, but modern homesteaders... . Sure

Not really sure, they did 4 ft tall rebar every 18 or 24 inches plus the footing was lined horizontally with it as well. We didn't see the actual wall pour, because we had to leave, but I need to touch base with the foundation guy. This all happened yesterday. At the stage we show in the video it looks just like all the foundations I've seen with the rows of horizontal in the footings, and the spaced vertical in the walls.
