These roof slates what are these look different to conventional slates How effective are these compared to conventional slates? Are these ok to walk on these?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE4 жыл бұрын
Fibre cement slates. Man made and yes you can walk on them. They are Cembrit Jutland slates I think.

@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE5 жыл бұрын
Well I just reused the lead flashing that was already on the roof and kept the house dry for years. Can you elaborate please? Thanks for watching.

Pouse said he was going to re point the existing flashing at a later date.

Should got the front apron in before you started slating
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE3 жыл бұрын
I was trying to get it water tight before I could finish if that makes sense. If you watch later videos I put a proper tray around it. Long winded way but suited my slow pace of working!!
@justycrusty5 жыл бұрын
Getting on well. You should have fitted a proper front apron to base of chimney and lapped the soakers onto it. Check out Peter Scholey on YT. His demonstration of lead work to a chimney is absolutely spot on, bombproof.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've seen that, but I think what I've done will work nicely, more to come in other vids. Thanks for watching!

POUSE around the HOUSE I’m not going to get into an argument over your lack of side lap on the apron. We’ll have to agree to disagree😂

Patina oil for your flashing. Maybe you add it later.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE4 жыл бұрын
Yes I used oil on the lead. Usually before if I can. If I forget I do as soon as I can once fitted. Thanks for the feedback!

Don't put nails in the middle of the slate water can get down between the joints from the one above. You should have a 150mm side lap
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE5 жыл бұрын
The hole you're referring to is covered by another slate, and the ridge tile. I mention it in the video. Hope that clears things up. Thanks for watching.
@noelreilly43595 жыл бұрын
If you look at the video you put one nail in the centre of the slate at 410 , 415 and at 650 in the video. Even though the next slate on top covers them nails the joint of the next slate above is right on top of it. water does penetrate across on the joints . There is supposed to be a 150 side lap .that's why the factory nail holes are out near the edge. I just thought I would tell you since your going to so much effort with your project. Keep up the good work thanks for the videos.

Don't cement ridge tiles mate, dry ridge it on these composite slates..👍

The dry ridge kits look awful on old houses...just my opinion of course. That's why I went for this method. Thanks for the comment!

Not the best but also not the worst. Wrong batten gauge and lead front apron on stack went under the slate. Get a roofer in. If your pointing stack you want to do off the new battens rather than risking breaking slates etc. Just a few pointers fella.

If this is your DIY project What s your main job? Loft conversions? 😁
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE4 жыл бұрын
The day job isn't building work. I don't think customers would be happy with a loft conversion taking 2 years!!!

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE 🤣🤣 well done for taking that on, that's a big job.
@mrboyban3 жыл бұрын
Give us an update, how many times have you returned to this job? The slates don't overlap correctly, eventually water finds the nails bringing corrosion to it and snap the lath. Not best practice mate.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE3 жыл бұрын
Never gone back. I explained about the slates below the roof. Nails are copper, don't rust, and I did a bespoke set up with the membrane below flashing so it's working perfectly years later, not so much as a drip on one of the 3 windows in the worst of storms. Thanks for watching.

Leadworx.co.uk get yourself a proper wielded front apron mate they wield the corners that will cost you around £40/£50 tops in the grand scheme of things on what you spent it’s nothing and will give you complete peace of mind in all weather conditions. The way you done it with a soaker dressed round the corner works in most conditions but you can bet your lucky socks in extreme winds it will blow the rain under the soaker and cause you a leak. I use that company for all my lead wielding needs there based in Cornwall there quick and efficient at getting your order out to you too Your need to take out your first slate going up the chimney as well to get the front apron in properly but I’m sure you know that already though pouse

POUSE around the HOUSE ohh yeah I have faith in your abilities, but don’t film the first tries and upload it on KZbin!! People might think that’s the right way to do it, but then again a real surgeon will see it and will have something contrary to say .
