@@patrykwolinski5520 Yeah I just really wanted to convey that although GT / RS cars are cool and something to aspire to, you just really don't need them for the backroads. They are mega overkill. You can have the speed (if you're into that) and all the fun too in the non GT / RS cars as well.

Love your enthusiasm! If I can ask for a video topic, can you talk about what some of us plebs can do if we can't find or afford the Boxter spyder...what alternative do we have to get close to that experience? Like can we get a 987.2 Boxter S and do aftermarket mods to get close? And what would those mods look like? Because let's be honest, with 400 of these might as well be a unicorn
@shawnmoore33756 ай бұрын
Yup, been actively searching for these with bucket seats since coming across this channel last year but it's been tough.
@dougpeete27125 ай бұрын
A 987.2 Boxster S will get you most of the way there. Look for the X73 suspension option, which is the same suspension as the Spyder. And then buy a set of APEX VS-5RS or Titan T-S5 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires to get weight reduction at the wheels and you’ll get a lot of the feel of the Spyder. As you fall down the rabbit hole, consider throwing on headers and an exhaust for more weight loss and visceral fun. When the time comes for a new battery, use a LIPO battery for some more weight loss. And if you really get bit by the bug, throw in some aftermarket bucket seats… part of the appeal of the Spyder is how the stock lightweight buckets grab you… but they are too expensive IMO to retrofit, so I’d personally drop in some Recaro Sportster or Pole Position seats to get that feel. All of that will get you pretty close to the same feel as the Spyder, I’ve got a 2011 Spyder, but I am considering a similar plan for a Cayman to build a Cayman R-style car for half the price.

Not so sure that's a car to modify too much. 1/ It will remain a Carrera engine whatever you do 2/ his bouncy behaviour makes it fun to drive and gives the thrill. I should only work on the following points : a) exhaust to give a better note at high rpm due to shy original PSE (but I like it) b) a light flywheel - the original one doesn't convince me for hill and toe and your proposition seems good ! c) maybe a little ajustement on the front end to improve the feeling of the steering (which is a little to light and missing some emotion but I'm very demanding on that point) - but I didn't find what at the moment. Except that I guess It will change the philosophy of the car up to my point of view. And as said in the comments of the last video, I think it's not comparable to a GT3 but It's a reaaaal cool car I like to drive !

Its a fantastic car man. What engine is it? The 2.7, 3.2 or 3.4? There were concerns of bore scoring on the 3.4s if im not mistaken, is that still the case?
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
Dfi engines really didn’t have a problem with this. This is a 3.4L

I even foreshadowed it with the... "don't do it!" At least no one around and at like 20 mph :) Wanted to show others some reality. New tires were on the car for first time from my Cayman and I was unfamiliar with their rain performance.

How do people not know the Porsche boxster?
@1859ddd6 ай бұрын
Will a tuned 987 Boxster S (non Spyder) be comparable to this? I’d love to eventually see a comparison video. This car is rad but it’s still a rare spec so they go for a lot of money. Just curious if I could get the same feel out of a 987 Boxster or even Cayman?
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
If you're referring to the 987.2 Boxster S, you'd be cable to get the same performance, but you wouldn't get the same ambiance / feeling. It's "like" comparing sitting in a base 911 to a 997.2 3RS and the way the car makes you feel when you sit in and walk away from it. That feeling and what it's worth to you is hard to quantify. Similar to comparing a 997.2 GT3 for $180k vs a 997.2 GT3RS for $340k.... is the RS worth the extra price? "No," but it'll tap into that childhood dream better. But everything has a price, because when the car is cheap enough you can get more joy out of a car that is way more expensive. In summary, different ways to access joy and enthusiasm. Hard to give an exact answer. But I will say that I would not sell my Spyder and enjoy having an extra $30k in my account. But we are all different. Hope this helps?

On which level do you see the performance of your fabulous car? Would you put it on the same level like 718 Spyder?

I'm sure the 718 would be a tad faster on track, but it would be 1/3 the fun

So obviously, this thing is crazy awesome, but also very rare and unaffordable for most. Do you know any Boxster models that are less rare but come close to this experience (with some mods maybe?)
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
It's a balance. You can basically turn any car into a racecar with massive theater and feedback. So it becomes a budget constraint to guide you in the right direction.
@sebastiaooliveira9286 ай бұрын
Fucking amazing! Would you say the 718 boxter S is similar to this one performance wise?
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
Hmm, I'd have to drive one. I know they are 4cyl turbos and can be FAST. Would be a different experience / theater, but I've heard some good things, especially if you can get a good deal. You just won't have the sound and theater that this NA car has.
@sebastiaooliveira9286 ай бұрын
@@DasCayman Definitely, sound is half of the experience. I'll have to drive one, they are less expensive so a good deal should make it well worth it. Spyders and GT4's are an all different playground, there goes the time one could get a nice 911 GT3 for 100 grand.
