The Boxster is the best value mid engine car with an exotic engine sound. 👌Totally agree with not needing a GT3 for public roads, though the same can be said about the Spyder; a Boxster S is less than half the price of a Spyder with the same engine and no-stress roof, and you can argue that there's still too much speed so base models are not out of the question. A 986 is less than half of a 987 again, and it's a car that's been raced in motorsport for ages. To be fair, purely on engagement and fun on the road at legal speeds, a Miata is still the answer. It all comes down to what makes a car fun for you.

This is the thinking that I've taken on board for the past several years having higher HP cars. I always go back to what I love and truly enjoy and that is my 1996 Viper with a full system, tune, bushings, fresh mounts etc. The visceral nature of how this car feels in your hands is hands down the best in my book for what I personally want in a sports car. This varies from person to person. A 3000ish pound 2 seat sports car with 400-500 hp is the perfect amount of power/weight for spirited street driving. The engine noise is key but the feel of the chassis in your hands is what I've come to find as paramount.

@@trevorjordan5349 I’ve always had the opinion that if you can’t have fun in 50bhp then 500 isn’t gonna help you. Pushing a slow car fast is more fun than barely pushing a fast car because of road limitations. I’d say the one exception is track specific applications. I have a 1.8 Eunos Roadster and on the roads it’s the most fun car I’ve driven. But on the odd occasion I’ve driven on track I’ve felt like I wanted a little more power because the visibility and run off areas allow for full extraction of performance of the car. I’m not saying it’s not fun on track it definitely is. But I also think more powerful cars can be equally as fun on track where you can really push the limits without the looming danger of crashing into a tree or another car filled with a family.

Ha! I'd love for my channel to grow too. Trying to do it in a "holistic" way without the seeminly banzai POV's but...yeah... I agree with what you said though! There are so many of these RS / GT cars at cars and coffee that get turned on, driven 5 miles, turned off, driven 5 miles back home and then put away for another 7 days. I just don't get it... I also have NO IDEA why people would ever want their engine built up by BBi or DeMan? The power even on these non-RS / GT cars is plenty, especially the modern stuff. Maybe those people live in FL or Texas where all they have are straight roads? I'm really appreciating the 9A1 engine too. It's such a cherry. This channel is putting the Dundon intake runners on the Spyder and trying to replicate MotoIQ's rig he did on his 987.2 Cayman S. Your picture should say 'Boxster is the answer... IF you have extra money' OBVIOUSLY every Miata owner would have gotten a nice Boxster Spyder (or any Boxster) instead but there is a HUGE price difference. I got my used 2017 Miata for only $18k because that's all that I could afford and I can easily work on it myself and parts are cheap. We would all love Boxsters but the early ones can have issues (definitely won't be as reliable as a modern Miata) and are a bit dated now and ALL Boxsters are more difficult and expensive to work on yourself so it's much more likely you'll need to take it to Porsche for any work and pay insane prices. Miata is still the answer here. Now, having said that, the Boxster Spyder is incredible and you really don't need any more power than that to enjoy on the street. I would certainly have that over any other $100k-ish car. Like, why would anyone buy an old E-Gear Gallardo over this. The Boxster with its rear haunches behind the seats also just looks fantastic and you got it in the best color too. Black, Red, White just don't look as good as silver on this car.
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment! What I like about my Spyder is that it shares the exact same interior as the 997.2 GT3RS. So it’s all the same. Whereas a Miata wouldn’t be. Then you still are in a Porsche with its great suspension and flat six howl. Not knocking the Miata, really love those cars. But for someone who’s already saved $100k towards their $300k purchase I’d ask them to consider hoping off the train and giving a 987.2 Spyder with a few choice mods a try first :)
@villaman48186 ай бұрын
The 986 S (3.2) shouldn't be ignored. A truly capable car. Porsche got it so right with the first gen Boxster's....i would though only consider the 3.2 for that N/A Porsche experience.

@Scifo321 yeah that's how I try to live my life is just appreciate what I do have. The Miata is a sweet little car and good to practice on before stepping up to something more powerful. I always dreamt of owning a nice used exotic but now that I'm nearly 40 years old, I'm running out of time to save up lol. Next best thing would be an Alfa 4C Spyder.

He was behind a crest in the road exactly like that. Dude clearly doesn't have a feel for the car with the spasmodic wheel twitching in anticipation of feedback, he's still getting a feel for it. Your a driver my friend and a brother from another no doubt. Having said that all I can say is your outlook is spot on and you MUST get a Gen2 Viper. The purest of the pure and nothing like it although your Spyder with how you have it setup does closely resemble the drive you get. Just add double the torque and tire, take away some of the interior quality (most of it) and to me the road presence of 7 figure Supercars for 50k. It's why I'm on my 8th Viper at age 38. They have ruined me for driving purity it's impossible to go back. Tried 911 Turbo and even Gen 5 Viper but nothing compares to the great ones.

I was gonna spend more on something else and I’m so glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have been dailying a more expensive variant. Thing rips and is still faster than most cars on the road, handles like a dream. Front bumper is peppered and I daily drive it, messed with an e46 m3 this morning on my way to work and we had a blast. All smiles at 5am driving into work… I have no interest in any other car, as you said, why the hell do I need a car any quicker and why the hell would I want a car that would cost a fortune in depreciation to actually use and enjoy and still be worrying about all the time. the power output of cars from the early to late 2000's is perfect, I own an E46 M3 and that thing is still doing a 4.5 0-60... compare that to a lot of newer entry level sports cars and its faster or as fast. the ~300hp and ~300ft lbs is a general sweet spot for a sports car and a lot of the cars from two decades ago in that realm are at a good low, sure the maintenance costs are higher but you are getting a hell of a deal for the performance

First off, this is a very skilled driver, operating way past my comfort zone for a public road. As owner of a 991.2 GT3 and a 987 Spyder, the poster is correct: the Spyder is a better road car in almost every circumstance. Both cars come alive after 4000 rpm. The 180 hp difference offers traction chaos at low speed, and extra acceleration at go-to-jail speed. Both detract from the driving experience on any tasty two lane road. With many track summers in my past, I appreciate track cars for what they do - on the track. My Spyder, btw, was a whim purchase, low miles, totally loaded (pdk, heated comfy seats). Don't knock it. This was the first paddle pdk in a Boxster - the shifts are a bit slow, but that has its own charm. Drive it aggressively, and like many other pdk cars, it's plenty quick, especially below 50 mph. All that said, the GT3 is an engineering work of art, and you feel it, always.. Porsche puts SO much more effort into their 911 product. Just a fact. Doesn't make the Spyder any less good.
@DasCayman6 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the compliments and comment! The 991.2 GT3 is a fantastic car, I had a go in one a few months ago and it is so capable. Great motor and chassis, the rear wheel steer is so noticeable on turn in at lower speeds, feels like it has a 50% faster steering rack compared to other cars. I agree on the 4k comment too. Sometimes I'll lend my car to people and they SHIFT @4k rpm and I'm like !?!?!. I tell them to not let it go under 4,000-4500rpm when on back roads. And yeah unfortunately the PDK on 987.2 is shockingly slow. I definitely spoiled myself when compared to the GT4RS PDK as well...The GT3/RS will always be the halo track car that can lap all day without a hitch. Huge appeal there. My Spyder 'can' do some track days...but the engine wasn't designed to lap the nurburgring for 24 hours straight unlike your GT3.
