I wanna do the lil xc stuff 😅 they can call me a baby all they want. If I ever jump my mare over something higher than 3ft it'll be over a knock-able pole! I do find this stuff hella impressive though. Sometimes I think maybe one day but my goodness do I really want to?

One of my aunts rode cross country, she's had some pretty bad falls but nothing too serious. She stopped riding when she got pregnant for the first time and never did it again, because she had kids and it's too dangerous when you mught end up in the hospital for a long time and unable to care for your children. But she did miss it and loved watching me ride as I was rehabilitating horses that had gone through hell. I hope she gets back on a horse one day, when her kids are independent enough.
@ninther99007 ай бұрын
Make sure she starts back at the basics, my mom used to ride horses, but then she quit for a long time. Then a friend from her work asked her if she wanted to go on a trail ride, but she wasn't as experienced as before and during a gallop, her horse either tripped or bolted. My mom fell of and broke her back, she got lucky because she didn't get paralysed and she's fine now. Just make sure that when your aunt starts riding again she relearns the basics first, better safe then sorry. I do hope your aunt gets to enjoy horseriding again!!

As much as I love xc, jumping that high, ESPECIALLY when there's a drop right after the jump is ridiculously dangerous, people are honestly idiots for taking such a risk for a piece of ribbon
@lumini31726 ай бұрын
Yep, one of my biggest gripes with XC. That’s not to mention all the jumps with huge freaking ditches in the middle, let alone how none of the jumps are collapsible so risk of injury is even higher. _Especially_ rotational falls which are the deadliest kind (if you look up equestrian rotational falls 99% of the photos will show XC falls). This is the horse-riding equivalent of swimming through an alligator-infested river. And hey, I’d be fine with that if the person really wants to do it, but the fact that they’re happily endangering their horses’ lives (who have no choice in the matter) is a huge issue. I have my gripes with showjumping as well but at least the jumps fall apart upon impact and horses aren’t being jumped down steep hills and immediately made to jump again at the bottom.
@Alannah-y6eАй бұрын
@@lumini3172 All of that is true. I do eventing and it's definitely something you have to consider. I worked my horse up to that for over 3 years to make sure he could take it and enjoy it. And I actually got him for dressage but he ended up loving cross county and show jumping so now we do that. And anyone who cares about their horses hoses their legs after and takes care of the horses. There is abuse but it's not all bad. It's not for every rider or horse. And it's definitely dangerous. I don't do high level courses because the higher the level the more dangerous it gets for both of us. Like anything there is an abusive way of doing it and a non abusive way of doing it.
@diarmuidkuhle818123 күн бұрын
@@lumini3172 the cross-country phase is based off training for cavalry horses (for that reason eventing is called Military in Germany). A war horse had to be able and willing to jump whatever was in the way, handle steep ground etc.
@lumini317223 күн бұрын
@@diarmuidkuhle8181 I’m aware. However, we are no longer using horses for war. There is no excuse behind endangering them in such ways in the modern day when they (or most of them, anyway) spend the rest of their lives in stalls. Besides, in some cases it’s not even it’s not even like the horse can see how dangerous the jump is. Like some jumps where there’s a huge ditch between two obstacles. The horse can’t see the ditch so it’s not like there’s any point in that being there to show the horse is brave. It would be the exact same if the ditch wasn’t there, only far less dangerous.
@Steph.Robinson13 күн бұрын
@@lumini3172trakehners (the jumps with the ditch underneath), as well as other jumps now have frangible pins and MIM clips to allow them to collapse when hit, they try and use these on as many jumps as possible, obviously there's jumps that don't collapse like steps, drops, tables, rolltops and corners, but it's a lot safer than it used to be, especially as a lot of us use air jackets over our body protectors which inflate fully within a tenth of a second

A lot of things have happened to horses that aren’t so good. Some of them break a leg where they can’t wait they have to be put down. It’s bad. I don’t know why you can watch country And support it, but I will never do that
