I learned this song in around 2012 and listened to it again for the first time in years when a friend asked me about "that cool funk track you always used to play" and as a ten years more experienced musician I picked up on those little details you mentioned in this video. Amazing how much more we hear as we grow as musicians.

Useful & thorough explanation for many who will find this fast riff daunting at first sight - which it absolutely is. I'm however quite sure that the 2 E's are inverse from your explanation, although you mention around 7:10 that there exist different transciptions. First pluck & hammer-on on D string, than slide up to slap & hammer-on on E-string. If you listen closely to the original you can hear the sliding movement here and there. This also bring your thumb in position to start off the riff on the first beat, which is a D + hammer-on to E on the A string. Just my 2 cents after 40 yrs of bass experience :). Anyway, keep up the good work !

When shifting positions to do the D-E pop on the G string, I find it easier to slide from the D to the E on the A string, instead of hammering on.

Dude... People that are actually going to be able to play this know what a ghost note is. You don't have to keep explaining it.
@ianfreud
@ianfreud 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but by that logic he wouldn't have to say that the E is the 7th fret of the A string. He's tutoring for all skill levels and even if I can't play the whole piece knowing what some of some terminology and techniques are and how they work is interesting and useful.
@johnnunya5428
@johnnunya5428 6 жыл бұрын
@Ian Freud No. Because there is way more than just one E note. And 2-3 on each string. Get your logic together.
