Something rarely ever mentioned about powder coats is that once it’s cooled, it’s ready to go. Unlike paint which can take a day or two to harden up, you can take a brand new part, powder coat it and have it bolted up within an hour - start to finish.

Thank you, I enjoyed watching all of Eastwood powder coating videos. Makes me glad to know that I can actually do it, and cant wait to try.

We're glad you like them. You can! Powder Coating is pretty easy, share your results with us.

After watching the video my take on it is that for moving parts its a must, but for non-moving parts its not a big deal. Even then for a daily driver around town you can probably get away with just paint. Car chassis including strut towers flex under high speed cornering and I've yet to see cracking in the paint that wasn't caused by bondo repairs around the strut towers.

A downside not mentioned in this video is that once the coating cracks and starts to peal, it makes for a perfect rust and corrosion environment. The coating will lift slightly allowing moisture (water) to creep under it. One little contaminated area will start this process very quickly. Another issue is it hides cracks in parts making it impossible to inspect. This is why powder coating is not allowed on aircraft parts. Also, when and if the time comes to refurbish a part that has been powder coated, it is very hard to remove. Many blasting shops will not touch a PC part for this reason. Just keep in mind many products are factory PC'd not for durability but for environmental reasons. Other than that. It's great.

Good info but I bought and aftermarket ranch hand bumper and within a couple of years the paint faded and flaking off I don't know if it's automotive paint with clearcoat or powder coated?
@eastwoodco2 ай бұрын
If it's flaking off it's most likely paint. You can sand, prime and paint it again - or strip it bare and powder coat it if you have a big enough oven or heat lamps.

Which one is best powder coating or spray paint
@eastwoodco7 ай бұрын
You gotta watch through the video! Depends on your proejct.
@super73uk4 ай бұрын
Powder coat is 10 times stronger that paint and usually much more flexable but as the OP says, it depends on the use & material you are spraying.

I have used weight stack gym machines that need refinishing. I would rather not disassemble the parts, nor transport the machines. What would be the best option to refinish them on site?
@eastwoodco6 ай бұрын
If you're not going to disassemble then painting is your only option. You can prep and mask off anything you don't want painted - similar to how you might spray a fender on a car without removing a headlight. Powder coat has to be baked at 400 degrees.
