Fun fact, when you kill the regular thousand sons, they blow up into dust, as they should. However, when you kill the sorcerers, they bleed normally and their bodies fall to the ground. That's due to the fact the sorcerers are the ones who didn't turned to dust. The detail attention in this game is amazing.

I think the best attention to detail that the game does is that all the cadians have purple eyes.

@thedancingdreamman and on the traitor's reveal scene, the cultists posing as cadians do not have purple eyes. Also, the one talking to the Marines had a vox operator helmet, while the actual vox equipment was with the other one. It took me several playthroughs to realize the eye detail and the vox equipment I only saw in a video when someone else pointed out. This game is the 40k nerd paradise, I fucking love it for it!

TL;DR - word came from the French. British changed the pronunciation because they hate the French but Americans were friends with the French during American Revolution so stuck with original pronunciation Longer story: The original word was pronounced as 'loo-tenant' in Medieval English and French (The English modeled much of their military to include words from the French). Many, many dialects formed and transformed as Saxons, Normans, French, Latin peoples interacted with each other and 'lef-tenant' popped up in some British areas though 'loo-tenant' was still the official version. Around the era of the American colonies and Revolution, there was an effort in England to 'de-French' their language and so they consolidated to the 'lef-tenant' pronunciation, though the spelling stayed the same, while the Americans were cozying up to the French so switched over to 'loo-tenant'. Similarly, Colonel is pronounced as 'kernel'. The French took the Italian word 'colonello' and made it 'coronel'. The British then took the word from the French but whereas French like to change 'l's into 'r's when taking words from Latin, the British kept the 'l' and the modern spelling of colonel was born, but the pronunciation stayed. People like to shorten words so as years went by Cor-o-nel just became ker-nel

In French we pronounce it as 'lieu-tenant' (lieu as 'in lieu of'/lee-euh-tenant, with the t being silent unless the feminine form is used), never heard of 'loo/lu-tenant' being said here, but reading a bit it about it, with older/latin versions it probably had variations and 'loo/lu-tenant' could be one of them, who knows, I didn't live at the time and am no linguist, nor history researcher either!

Darktide is a very fun horde shooter with very fun melee. Instead of playing as Space Marines you play as regular soldiers, you can pick Veteran (regular soldier-type), Psyker (soldier with different powers like shooting lightning out of your hands), Zealot (melee focused fanatical soldier), then Ogryn (huge, but dim-witted mutants the size of Space Marines. They are very loved because of how simple they are!)

Veterans aren't that regular, same goes for psykers. And ogryns are bigger, tougher and stronger than space marines. I might add that Darktide's playable ogryns are extremely intelligent for their species and so also rare.

Cadians also live in the chunks of Cadia that are left. They turned it into a training ground for more soldiers, so Cadia can get avenged. Which is possibly one of the most 40k things ever to have happened in 40k.

that is only definitely true for the dark angels. other chapters have it stand for different amounts of years of service, or even specific types of service, or dont follow the custom at all. for ultramarines specifically, one of the older print media said that a gold stud denotes 50 years of service. but the various media seems to be at a bit of liberty with that.

honestly, the craziest thing about SM2 isnt even the glorious slaughter you engage in, but the beautiful, stunning set pieces that the devs have created. barring maybe the swamp/forest levels, the surroundings and whats in it, like the necron centipedes or all the guard vehicles, are absolutely gorgeous and had me giddy far more than the gameplay. some other warhammer nerd i watched this play called it "the most beautiful and amazing board you will ever play on". i really hope they do a lot more with these assets they created. boring stuff: <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1269">21:09</a> i found out (via watching someone who just mashed buttons), that you can parry helbrutes. if thats not the most badass, manly thing ever, idk what is. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1412">23:32</a> to expand a bit more on what chat said: most space marine chapters have a specific homeworld. for the ultramarines its Macragge (i believe its pronounced mah-krahg, like bricky said it in his SM Legions video). Macragge is the central world of guillimans empire, which is within the empire of man (the latter which spans most of the milky way galaxy). to use a metaphor: if the empire of man is all of earth, Ultramar would be the US. large and powerful and with many other states (=planets/solar systems) in it. <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1760">29:20</a> i've never actually noticed before that the game says "outside of space - outside of time" holy shit thats so cool <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="2071">34:31</a> the inquisition dont control the assassinorum, but they freely and fairly often call upon assassins to get jobs done. and basically only high-rank leadership of space marine chapters will refuse an inquisitor, because otherwise you will get into a heap of trouble. on the other hand, an inquisitor would probably(?) not deem a marine traitor or heretic for refusing orders and try to execute them on the spot, unless they got sufficient proof, because most marine chapters are pretty autarkic/self-sufficient and would hate anyone from outside their chapter putting their fingers into their brotherly pie.

Tzeentch is really popular in storytelling with 40k because it allows for a lot of fuckery and unknowable nonsense, a perfect device for retconning on one hand and also just a good medium when youre doing a deep sci-fi story. I'd argue Khorne is a little more beloved by the fans though

Space Marines Chapter is responsible for regulating itself. Leandros should have reported to The Chaplains or a Librarian about his suspicion about Titus' possible corruption instead he ignored the whole Chapter hierarchy and probably the Codex too by going straight to the Inquisition.

So a bit of info about Cadia, it was a fortress world closest to the eye of terror, a warp rift that Abbadon the despoiler and his black legion where trying to get out of, but My understandinging was that Cadia was able to fend of the black crusades that happened every few centuries. The planet had some structures that allowed it to be stable near the rift gate, Abbadon enraged by their continured defience made use of a giant fortress ship and crashed it into cadia, destroying the stabilising structures and cracking the planet. But throught this whole ordeal, the cadian guardsmen never fell, even while the planet was being destroyed, its why you'll hear people say that cadia broke before its guard did

Cadian guard are the baseline of a lot of regiments in the guard, and for good reason, They're the best of the best in the Militarum, they're average life expectancy in combat is greater than most Guard regiments, THEY GET SHIT DONE. As they're homeworld of Cadia was at the literal doorstep of hell they're also extremely resilent to the Warp, This unique resistance, combined with their training and doctrines of adaptability to diferent combat scenarios, made them one of the few regiments specifically equipped to fight Chaos head-on, and also allowed to have combined arms (air, naval and armored assets). you can always make out cadian regiments as they bear the Cadian insignia on their shoulders, and also the Violet/Purple eyes a mutation born from countless generations spent on a world so close to the Immaterium. End of todays autistic rant. (they're my favourite regiment lol)

@goopworld2184 For me it's how the breastplate is more form-fitting than the more clunky looking Mk 7. The "clunkiness" added to the regression aspect of the far future and when paired with the gaudy decorations really drove home the aesthetic for me. I also think they looked more unique overall due to the different armor patterns and the mix and matching.

@goopworld2184 I feel that. I actually don't play Guard anymore, mostly Death Guard and Nurgle Daemons/CSM these days. Most of 9th edition and the first half of 10th kinda left a bad taste in my mouth with GW business decisions pissing in the pot, and the hobbying side was a lot to keep up with running IG. Ended up donating my Guard models to my brother who was interested in Guard and getting into 40k. Still, I'm a huge fan of Guard off the tabletop for lore and hope my buddies on that side of the house are eating good with the new codex. Plus I still roll with Kasrkin and Vet Guard for Kill Team and would love fielding some refreshed Catachan as a team. P.S. Fuck yeah, Nids are cool. One of my eventual side projects for printing is to make a Norn monster mash collection just to run for fun.
