Love it but I'm a beginner, would like to see more close up of how you detail wings. Great job

Haven't made wings for awhile but the technique is pretty straight forward. Get the pattern cut out and then under cut each feather. Doesnt matter if you use a knife, chisel or dremel, the technique is the same. Go slow and with the grain and it should come out great

Jhonathon, Got dark early, and saw your video on my home page.I like that burning technique. More to explore when I finally get inside the shop. trying to figure out a method of tenting the area for all the flying chips and dust.

if you find a good method let me know! the amount of sawdust I go through for a small shop is startling

@@JohnathonWhittaker I've decided to use the lightwieght plastic tarps to cordon off a 6 by 10 foot area. will be hanging some 1x2 s to serve as the curtain rod with nylon rope threaded through the ringlets and around the rod.

@@thomastieffenbacherdocsava1549 sounds like a good plan. I saw a purpose built room at a trade show, 3.walls were perspex and had a large air extractor in the roof. Seemed to work well and clear tarp should do well to. I would recommend some high quality respiration gear though. Power carving makes alot of very fine dust

@@JohnathonWhittaker I've built a 2ft by 4 ft down draft table, just installed a 3 hp dust collector, with my design of thein chip collector and a large air filter ( grizzly) sitting in the rafters. Also just got a respirator mask , enclosed, as I have plans to do sandblsting of some very rusty undercarriage. Minnesota winters.

@@thomastieffenbacherdocsava1549 sounds like you.habe put alot.of thought into This! I tried a down draft table too but found it wasn't that effect for my angle grinding carving but.worked just fine for dremel stuff

Just wanted to say thank u. Lost my 19 year old daughter 3 years ago. I am a carpenter and i finally want to make some Angel wings. I absolutely love these. Beautiful. May i ask where u retrieved your template from? Again thank u for sharing and for the inspiration.

@jenniferleigh-ws5xq firstly, let me say how sorry I am for your loss, as a fellow parent, I grieve with you. After that, thank you for your.kind comment, these are pretty straight forwards to make and as for the design, I simply googled angel wing template, there are hundreds of images online. I found one that I liked and this pattern seems very common, downloaded the image, enlarged amd printed it and traced it straight onto the wood. Ideally you want a image that is of a relatively high quality to be able to enlarge and with a detail level that your happy to work with. Also, I would perhaps practice on a few pieces of scrap first before trying on anything special. Besides that, be patient and it will come out great. If.you have any more questions, don't hesitate to get in touch

@JohnathonWhittaker Well thank u kind sir. I went and rounded me up a template and I'm transferring my image as we speak on some scrap pieces to try first. So odd. When I started transferring something told me to check for a reply. And I am so glad I did. I have been steady repeating to myself to just have patience. This is going to be a very cool healing experience for me. Thank u again for your wisdom. May God Bless you and your family.. 🕊💞🕊

Hi Johnathon ... I went on Amazon to purchase the nylon brush wheel (my Amazon doesn’t carry Abracs, but has similar ones). Evidently these wheels come in grits. Can you please tell me which grit you were using. I tried to stop the video and read the package, but it didn’t work well for me. No hurry! Thank you.
@JohnathonWhittaker6 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, I use two grits, 80 and 120. They are very soft so the 120 grit acts more like 240 and the 80 like 120. Just make sure you wear eye protection! Little pieces do go flying off
@susanwoodcarver6 жыл бұрын
Johnathon Whittaker Thank you Johnathon. I’m ordering both of them now. I will definitely use eye protection. I really appreciate your advice. ☺️
