That's a neat trick. I do mostly manual carving where you would clean this up with a gouge and soms scrapers. I suggest looking at the scraper set by flex cut. It wil save you a lot of time sanding and can create a perfect finish.

I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. kzbin.infoUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

Hey C.C.! If you don't mind me adding something that has helped me a lot,but I got in trouble with my gf at first lol. My lil' secret weapon against negative areas (Emery Boards) LoL That's how I got in trouble with my girlfriend; I used her last new one,and they're easy to custom cut however you want to; just use a utility knife,or a good pair of shop scissors. You may have to experiment some,but their very cheap; a pack of 5 cost me about $2.25 after taxes. A new one is about the same as 80 grit sandpaper,and one slightly used is around 100 to 120 grit an so on. If I need a high grit for a very smooth finish; I'll trim the emery board however I need it to be an then I'll use double sided tape to apply say 220 maybe even 400 if I'm not going to stain the finish piece; after taping just trim to fit,and you're all set. Also play around with textured design in your negative areas. An lately I've been using colored epoxy too; it takes a while with the drying time,and the sanding to a smooth finish,but the results are awesome. Sorry about the long write. An thanks C.C. for the informative video upload I enjoy watching,and learning from them; great info without any unnecessary filler,or hype. 😎👍

All four stages shown here can be reduced to one by using mini scrapers, which are easily made from old hacksaw blades. You'll end up with a planed finish to the negative space and a lot sharper definition at the edges.

Just to throw it in there. If you plan on finishing the wood, I wouldn't recommend jumping from 120 to 220. You won't be able to hide the scratches created by the 120 it will show through the finish especially if it is stained or colored. Don't skip grits 120-150-180-220

I would've thought to put the rotary tool into a router-like jig to secure it at a fixed depth to smooth the negative space...
@RomanKhuzin8244 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same cause to get it as straight as that using freehand takes awhile to get a good hang on it. Knowing myself that engraving will get quite deep by time I straighten it out. Cause i would by accident make a deeper spot and then have to drop everything else to that depth. Or worse start on one end with 1/8 depth and slope it down to a quarter on the other haha. Well atleast I'm working on my patience. That's always a plus

@CorneliusCreations5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, even with just one working hand. Just take your time and “feather” over the areas. You will definitely see a difference. Practice a little and you will start getting the hang of it in one hand. Put the wood in a vise or on a non-skid surface (you can buy some dicem I think it’s called) at wal-mart that will keep the wood from sliding while you are carving.
@anattemptwasmade21365 жыл бұрын
With a little engineering, you might be able to modify one of those lamps that are on an adjustable arm to hold your rotary tool in a clamp. I don’t know if I’m explaining it right... Doing it one handed might prove difficult, but if you’ve got someone that can give you a hand (bad pun intended) it might work out fairly well
