Thank you. I know its late but I thought these motors were seized up and I was going to scrap them. I removed the brake and tested them. They will now have a new life as a boat motor.

Didn't keep the batteries as they were swelling along their sides. THANKS for the break explanation - as well as that they seem to go on 12v

It is a worm gear, to make it go faster modify the low speed shaftr to fit in place of the high speed shaft and gear so the worm gear drives the wheel directly without reduction

I don't think by using 12V you would damage these motors. Since I will be using them for a relatively slow robotic car, the 12v is good. The motor is rated for 24v so basically it would use less current at that voltage. An example would be: if I need 100 watts of power @ 24v it would draw 4.166 amps. That same 100 watts of work @ 12v would draw 8.33A from the batteries. That's why I will use 2 Gel cels in parallel rated @ 8AH for a total of 16AH @ 12v

@fcord23.....I was just reading through the comments and saw that you're running them at 12v (parallel) instead of the 24v (in series) like they were designed/built to be run at. I just wanted to say that from what I know about electronics and especially motors, if you must, it's better to run them at a little higher voltage then they're rated at opposed to a lower voltage. When you do the latter, it draws more amps (double the amount in this case) then what it was designed for and depending on how much extra amps/how hard your working them, will result in straining, overheating and or even frying out the internals. All of which will definitely shorten the motors lifespan. Just figured I'd mention it and either way, good with everything..peace
@GizmoGuy620
@GizmoGuy620 9 жыл бұрын
Hello Motogoat1 and thanks for your input. I am sorry I do fail to mention the motors would not be run directly from a battery, but thru a motor driver (such as a Sabertooth 2X12) or some other PWM power circuit. This will help to reduce any large current drain and or over heating.

The brake is pretty heavy duty, I think it would draw a lot of current just to bypass the brake. This would reduce the the power of your on board batteries. I just eliminate the brake.

Newb question here for the 24v wheel chair motors. You're simply turning the motor with a 12v battery. Could you actually put a load on the motor for pulling and just run it off a 12v battery permanently? Would there be any damage to the motor itself? I'm just curious. That would save having two batteries in there or one expensive 24v battery. Thanks for the answer when you get around to it. :)

Thanks for the video. I am looking for this motor to drive small piece of scenery/platform on stage. As long as the motor is engaged and it's not getting power, does it act like a break? @GizmoGuy620

I wouldn't call it a brake, but it doesn't spin freely either. If you need braking action utilize the brake on the motor, you just need to apply 24VDC to disengage it.

@@GizmoGuy620 Thanks so much for the reply. So if I got a car battery that was 24 volt, I could get the power for the wheel and it would also act as a brake. I'm not to this area so forgive me for asking such basic questions. @GizmoGuy620

Sorry I do not. I believe these motors are rated 24v. With the internal gearing, the speed is what it is. Applying higher voltages will most likely damage the motor.

@@GizmoGuy620 I had someone in A Quantum chair blow by me like I was standing still yesterday and his motors were no larger than mine. I've already removed the programed restrictions so there must be some other factor governing the power to the motors. These motors could easily handle twice the voltage. The motors are not the problem. I overvolt dc motors all the time. The ratings mean nothing

If I'm not mistaken that's a 24v motor so you need to go in series with your batterys because yes you can run a 24v motor on 12v but your going to consume more amps

I needed the robot to run inside a home. I couldn't have it running at 24v because it would be too fast. A slower speed (at 12v) would actually use less amps (by using a Power PWM control).
