Appreciate the awesome playthrough. I think 19:00 this part is where the assault class struggles. Clearing out small mobs(with no tyranids warrior) is way harder than it should be. That’s why chaos marine operations are hell for this class.

This is a power fist problem more than an assault problem tbh, it's AOE for your ground pound is terrible and it's charge attack is absolute cheeks(Even the slightly better falco punch version if you use the top tree). A Thunder Hammer would have cleaned that group up instantly, power fist is usable but I'd go as far to say it's the worst melee weapon in game currently.

Thunder hammer is great against tyranids but the chaos usually can teleport out of smash or the swarming Tzaangors (the little guys with shields) can block and the fist goes through them like a hot knife into butter as it is faster and breaks the block.

Depends on how you build in my opinion, assault can dominate small mobs with a good thunder hammer and a build that focusses on maximising horde control with your jump pack, if you get nice dense mobs you can jump pack like 5 or 6 times if you’re picking the jumps right. What assault really struggles with is mass numbers of powerful ranged enemies which every class does to some degree but assault in particular because of the lack of a primary weapon.

Don't be fooled brothers. The player is good but: 1) Power Fist is terrible in current itteration (backed up by datamining) and the power of Assault is perfect parrying/dodging and doing insane gunstrikes (which you see in the video). Ground Pound jetpack the hordes so it refuels itself. Use Thunder Hammer heavy attacks, don't use lights. 2) It's solo mission meaning the player has to do all the clearing because bots hardly kill. In multiplayer your brothers would long clear all the mobs.

@@simounobrien9096 Considering I have done hive tyrant on all Assault weapons I can guarantee you are not taking 1/3 of the hive tyrant health from one power fist charged attack all by yourself. Were I to guess, you took a fairly large chunk cause a tactical put an auspex on the hive tyrant. Even then it would not have been 1/3 of its health. The difference between the single target damage from power fist and thunder hammer charged attack is negligible. What makes thunder hammer better is it has more range and aoe damage. FYI, assault is actually not bad against hive tyrant but its most consistent damage weirdly enough is gun strikes, not its melee weapon.

I love the Hive Tyrant fight, but man does it highlight the two massive issues with Assault: 1) You can’t animation cancel melee attacks to initiate a dodge, so the melee Assault class can’t, you know, melee things. Every big hit you take is entirely because you were punching before an unblockable attack even began and couldn’t get out of it to dodge. 2) How god awful melee damage is. Even when you landed the charge up ground quake it does… a tiny sliver of health. Thank the Emperor for gun strikes cus you just cannot meaningfully dps by hitting things. Melee is such low damage in general, and it’s no where as painful as on the power fist. Masterful gameplay, fantastic video. But when someone this good plays this well, it leaves no room for the game to hide any flaws.

your right but i think i heard of a work around for attack cancel. parry can cancel an attack but then you are parrying so i guess you have to pre emptively parry cancel then dodge. im not sure if dodge can interrupt a parry but if it can them the control sequence becomes less demanding. im just way impressed hes mastered the melee dodge for majoris and extremist. most folks are so used to parrying that the orange attacks at point blank hit them. im hoping maybe after a few thousand hours of game play i can get to that skill level.

GJ. I have the same perk trees for both assault and the weapons, with the only difference is that I prefer the pistol with extra ammo. Gotta say one thing about assault: he really shines on high levels, both as a class and his weapons (hammer and fist). Low level assault and hammer / fist less than "relic" - is quite a problem. That's why many people give up on assault, because you really need to suck it up, until he really gets good.

sup brother! awesome realy, but i would have 1 recomendation for u.. the passive build on ur heavy bolter, try this one and leme know how u found it (only gona say "2, 2, 2, 1, 1,..." where 1 means first/upper passive-row and 2 the lower one) 2, 2, 2+1, 1, 1, 1+2, 1, 1 - with this one u get much more benefits from all ur gun strikes + the headshot dmg is insanely increased so its double win on this one.. and to top it off, it auto-reloads everytime u gun strike.. so.. tripple win i guess? (u could further go with ur passive wich gives u 25% ground pound dmg for 10sec after a gun strike and more.. but ima leave it for now :D)

@@prich0382 gun strike damage is a great team perk, and the assault can actually sustain itself through a fight while the vanguard would literally just fall over without the melta. Everyone who disagrees has a skill issue. And I’ll add, the vanguard can clear solo just like every other class, but while the assault is getting jump pack resets and annihilating majoris enemies, the vanguard is a parasite that relies on its allies to set them up for finishers. Actual poop.

How does Vanguard need teammates to help him? I went at Level 1 straight to Difficultly 4 and it was a breeze, a lot of it solo because he has the Melta, it's busted. This game gets you in the zone man. The combat loop is so dang fun. Initially I was turned off by looping the same operations, but they do hold up and really its just an excuse to get into combat. I hope we get something cool with the horde mode. Maybe add some tower defense elements or let us control dreadnoughts or something crazy.

i can’t tell for sure if you’re using the perk for +100% jump pack damage with a reduced radius but it looks like you are. anyways the perk is a trap. the class is good at hoard clear with the standard radius and becomes far weaker at hoard clear with the radius reduced. you’re basically creating a weakness just to get a damage bonus that isn’t even worthwhile. the emperor protects!

Having Maxed Assault myself i can tell you the biggest factor in all of this that makes this possible, is ALWAYS take a fencing weapon, forget about the perfect dodges, parry is way better.

i'm gonna go a step further and say that ruthless isn't even hard EVEN ON a LEVEL 1 character, if you just figure out that you can counter shot every single thing that enemies do, and parry attacks that aren't highlighted. those two mechanics alone mean that you can get an armor bar off of EVERY SINGLE small enemy you kill. and then if you know the like two whole ass attacks that every majoris and terminis enemies have, you can basically just counter stunlock all of them, even when there's 4 attacking you at the same time. i don't really get why people are complaining on reddit about the highest level difficulty, when i think there should be at least 2 more difficulties above ruthless, cuz i'm. not. klidding. when i say i JUST loaded into a ruthless mission on a level 1 vanguard, and didn't come close to dying even a single time.

You forgot to mention that you had one arm busy with a sandwich when you did that level 1 ruthless run. Also, as an assault, you can't get guaranteed armor bar from perfect parry as non fatal Gun Strikes does not grant armor unless you invest on a perk which is on level 17 if I remember correctly. Counting on minoris to get armor from fatal gun strikes is not reliable as it's not them you get fatally swarmed by if you use normal weapon and not power fist like in this vid. You'd also need fencing weapon variant which have huge drawbacks in form of damage or speed unless you unlock relics. So yeah, I call BS on your level 1 ruthless run. Unless you got carried by friends with melta.

Hate that this only got suggested to me cuz i max leveled it with much success. Literally same set ups except i sacrifice the aoe of ground pound for 100% more dmg because unlike hammer, fist is more a dueling weapon than aoe so you ASSAULT your targets hard and fast. Also suggest 20% faster recharge on jetpack over on kill as yes you can refill it kinda in groups but thats hammers job, and most of your kills arent coming from ground pound. Pound into execution doesnt count either

Assault is all about heavy attacking mobs for gun strikes, and diving on elites. I know it might look fun to wave clear, but as an assault you really need to be diving enemy gun lines and elites.
