Coming from factorio, the use-case for auto-balance and flywheels eluded me to begin with because it is not entirely intuitive and I don't think you really stated it clearly: In COI (unlike in Factorio and real life for that matter), the *turbines* are either off, or they run at full power. Once you hook them up to a constant supply of steam, after they've spun up to speed, they stay there untill you disconnect the steam again, regardless of what you hook onto them. Never mind the loss of efficiency, they are simply not capable of running at an arbitrary power level to match the current demand on the generators. However *generators* will only draw mechanical power from the shaft to satisfy the current demand; (What you must understand is that the "shaft" not a simple axel that links everything together rigidly, but an axel with a series of perfect clutches and step-less transmissions, that allow all units on it to spin independently from each other and individually spin at a different rpm to the shaft or not spin at all). The remaining mechanical energy on the shaft, and thus the fuel that went into producing it, is wasted. This is where the flywheel comes in: It will take this instanteneous surplus mechanical energy on the shaft and store it by spinning up. Once the energy stored exceeds a certain threshold, the turbines will then cut out, not consume steam, and the system will run entirely off the stored energy in the flywheels for a brief time, before the turbines re-engage and start the cycle over. This brings your overall steam, and thus fuel, usage down slightly over time to more accurately match your actual demand.

highly recommend you place down your power shaft in an area that allows it to get really long and douse not cut off truck access to a portion of the island or cause long detours. also should be located relatively close to your oil refining, cus its byproducts are perfect for generating steam for power. edit: also recommend adding the 2 wide power generators in a group of 7 of 2 reasons, 1: power spikes and 2: due to the power generator 2's being 7 wide. that way you can remove the 7 T1's and replace them with T2's...may have just made the mistake of only placing them in groups of 6 on a long row and now have to rip half my stuff up...lol

So...why only one turbine and then exaust the steam. The steam will still have preasure. Can't you put another turbine in line with the steam exaust to use that energy more?
@JDPlays2 жыл бұрын
Because this is for Power generation 2, at this stage of the game there is no low pressure turbines, no water reclamation, no cooling towers, no exhaust scrubbers etc etc. The video is to explain how power works, and provide a simple build for early game. Late game power builds will be later videos.
@SyberSmoke2 жыл бұрын
@@JDPlays I think my question was more process. That it would seem reasonable to run the boiler into a turbine, the to another one from the previous turbines exhaust. I have not gotten this far yet, so is that possible to do at this early stage?

this problem can solve using pure water to clear water with lot of parts. The big problem is balance everything that you can stop to balance because it will gameover, The big problem is car allways need you to point the way to distance.

Wow my power setup was\is a hot mess in my last play.
@xoso5992 жыл бұрын
Clearly you just do the same thing over with low pressure steam and can condense your water and reuse that once you have those techs. The tricky part is balancing the oil refining with all the different boilers for different fluids to keep making diesel and not bottleneck.
@JDPlays2 жыл бұрын
With the techs you will firstly be able to condense the low pressure steam back into water, then finally you will be able to get power out of the low pressure steam before condensing it back into water, then some time after that you will unlock MORE stuff!

MW-seconds is just MJ; did the devs not realise this?
@JDPlays2 жыл бұрын
im sure they did, considering they wrote all the recipes, then again MW-s sort makes sense for someone whos first trying to understand power and battery storage
@TheRojo3872 жыл бұрын
@@JDPlays But power is just energy usage over time. One joule divided by one second is one watt. To nobody does it even make sense to say "watt-second" given it's a redundant name for a joule. Megawatt-HOUR (MWh) makes sense though; it's just a scale factor of 3600:1. Watt-hours are actually in common use.
@troelshansen62122 жыл бұрын
@@TheRojo387 yes. I know. You know. But unless you're a physicist or at least were sufficiently interested in Science in highschool to actually pay attention to, understand and no less remember the definitions of energy and power and their units, starting to suddenly speak of joules is just gonna be more confusing. Ws ("watt-second") is a perfectly valid a unit to express energy amount and it makes intiutively sense to use in this context. Kind regards, a physicist.

hahaha thanks for letting me keep the like! flywheels its depends very much on situation. im fairly confident with just 1 for now, and 2 in the future after upgrades.
