I believe there is a setting that allows you to set the maximum height the tailgate will open to. This prevents it hitting the ceiling should you have a low garage for example. I suspect that you may have inadvertently set this maximum at that level it opens to. You need to reset the tailgate. Should be explained in the user manual. Also in the centre screen menu there is an option for heights you have not tried
