"Here's how confident the producers were that we were not gonna give away a million dollars: we didn't even rehearse the bit that's coming up!" Probably the most real statement ever spoken by a game show host. Love it!

I remember this and the final question and I guessed 29% highly doubt I would have ever gambled a million to go for it, but it's incredible to think that back in the day if I was in his shoes I would've had it right.

Drew really tried to convince the kid to take a shot at the $10M but the kid did the right thing walkin away with $1M. It's no wonder that the producers of the show had to pay the kid in ten annual instalments. Ten million dollars. Goddamn. That's set-for-life money right there. And at 19 years old. Amazing. I wish I was a ninteen year old millionaire training to be a doctor.

I was hoping Jamie would go for it but I was the same age Jamie was at the time and to me to go $10 million and still leave with $100,000 seemed like something great to do. My dad explained something called taxes and now at 31 I see how right Dad was.

Yeah he's reading off the autocue saying that, they literally didn't rehearse this. But I wish he said fuck that and just told the kid not to risk it. Regis Philbin was often accused of being too pushy not to gamble on WWTBAM, but, would you rather have that than a guy telling everyone to gamble 900000 dollars? I can't tell if Drew is trying to save the show or think this kid's smart enough to win the 10m.
@TonLars9 жыл бұрын
Why are you people judging the mom? She just wanted him to make a smart decision, which he did, to walk away. And she was proud of him, not only for winning the show, but because he is going to med school. Nothing wrong here.

This show is getting better with every night it's on, and so is Drew. Also, I think we now realize that winning the BIG money is not easy at all, the way it should be, you really have to EARN it. So, any time the million or even the ten million is won it will be exciting. It is a smart fun show that certainly makes you think.

@cutemimi259 жыл бұрын

@Angie23439 жыл бұрын
cutemimi25 In fact, it's still one of his big plans. Fields' most famous work was announcer of Price from 2004-10, a role which he repeatedly stated was his "dream job" after watching original announcer Johnny Olson (coincidentally, he and current Wheel announcer Jim Thornton both announced on Price just after Rod Roddy's death). Rich either had a fan following already or gained one very quickly after his first appearance, as the president of his fan club was called down about a month into Fields' tenure. Shortly after being hired, the podium his predecessors worked from was disposed of; rather than see it destroyed, he retrieved the podium and put it on display in his home. He also handled hosting duties on the first two Price video games for Wii and PC, taking over for Bob and Drew, and did most of the announcing. Rich became somewhat disliked by fans during the first half of Season 37, when he became the subject of many "Drewcases" (Showcases written by host Drew Carey) that made him look like either a jerk or a joke. Others criticized Rich for the tone of his voice. Following Season 38, he was fired due to unspecified reasons only described as "a mess of his own making and didn't have anything to do with The Price Is Right" (TMZ claimed he was a victim of identify theft, while someone claiming to be a close friend said that "he was getting tired, having too many personal problems"). Whatever the case, it is known that Fremantle extremely disliked him despite his immense fan popularity, wanting him gone when Bob Barker left in 2007, and that executive producer Mike Richards wanted an improv comedian to interact with Carey; George Gray, previously host of the daytime syndicated Weakest Link, ultimately got the job. As a result, he was not included as an announcer for the TPIR: Decades Wii video game produced by Ludia; in his place, however, is fellow Olson protege and announcer Randy West.Rich is the only announcer to have worked on both the Barker and Carey versions of Price, as well as the show's first announcer to be replaced while still living (Olson died in 1985, and Roddy in 2003). After Price, Fields' most recent work was announcer of Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza, which ran on GSN for a few months in 2011.

Ever since the scandal that was NBC's original run of Twenty-One (the movie "Quiz Show" is a fictionalized account of this), there are laws in the US against rigging game shows like that. No game show producer would ever do that, because they would almost certainly get sued for way more than 10 million dollars.
@quadrupleplay15 жыл бұрын
This is simply one of the best game shows made for a long time, marred by one of the weakest final rounds ever made. Could there ever possibly be a $10,000,000 winner if they aired the show for a hundred years?

@cicholdebannan9 жыл бұрын
No one would ever go for the 10M because there’s no logical reason to choose one percentage point over another. When you’re dealing with ranges, you can justify that it would be between 23-33 and not, for example, 53-63. But there’s no reason to choose 22 vs 23, or 25 vs 26. So here’s how you make it enticing to go for the 10M. You give them a 3% range - their exact answer and +/- 1%. If they hit it right on the exact answer, they win 10M. If the answer is outside that range, they lose and drop back to 100,000. But if the answer is 1% point off, they don’t win the 10M but they stay at the 1 million (they don’t drop down). That lessens the risk that to a point where some people might think about going for it.
@derpaderpy49319 жыл бұрын
It's not really that bad if you lose anyway, because even if you did happen to lose if you were crazy enough to take the massive risk, you still walk away with a tenth of your earnings which is still plenty to live on for a few years.
@cicholdebannan9 жыл бұрын
Devin - with respect to your point about everything being a "power of 10" - that's defeated in the final game anyway because the odds of winning the 10M are 1 in 11, not 10. And it is appealing to the producers to give a safety net simply because if no one ever goes for the grand prize, people won't watch - i.e. ratings. But you do raise good points.
@dimitriskontoleon67878 жыл бұрын
+cicholdebannan in mathimatica (if 11 peple try to continious this game) 1/11 have taken 10.000.000$ and 10/11 100.000 in total 11.000.000 so no Ev. but in fact is no reason to try the exact nymber, just because is 1.000.000$ is super enought. The tv if he continuous the show and choose the number 29, he maybe tells that the correct answer is 28... MAYBE!
@cicholdebannan8 жыл бұрын
Here's another sign as to how no one would EVER go for the 10M. Once Drew explains the rules, i.e. the risk vs. the reward and the odds, listen to the audience SCREAM: "NO! NO! NO!" I would wager there wasn't a single person in the entire studio or watching at home saying "go for it".

Better chance than the lottery. Besides, even if you were wrong, you still leave with $100,000, which is nothing to laugh at.
@zz0mfgz9 жыл бұрын
Paul S Of course it's a better chance than the lottery, but it's also a greater risk (lottery tickets aren't $900k). So a 1/11 chance to get 10 times your money... So it's about the same (probably even a little worse) than playing the lottery. (Lottery is about 1/100000000 chance to win, but the reward is about 100000000 times the money you risk.)
