Thanks Salomon, nice to see you again. 😊 I kept a record of the outages we experienced in 2023 and there was 26, most just for a second or two, except for one last March which lasted for two hours, and we ended up in our Kona on utility mode keeping warm. 😮

I was about to ask if the Kona allowed a more powerful inverter. So liked your input. With utility mode on and a full pack. Can you continously draw the full 2kw?

Yes I used it to power the fridge, a freezer and all the lighting (LED) for 17 hours. @@iangardner2311

You can until you empty the battery at a point when the utility mode stop. I cannot recall at what percentage this happen. @@iangardner2311

I use a portable power station that I can move into the house, or sustain with an extension cord if I have a secure location like a garage. I have two of these, so I can have one charging while the other is in the house.

So in the case of the Kona, you need to keep it in utility mode so that it doesn't shut off, right? I wonder if someone could retrofit the 2024 kona on board charger to a 2020 so you could just plug a V2L outlet into the charge receptacle 😅

Hope the power is not out for weeks, no car,trasnport to escape, hope it was charged enough beforehand to allow you to leave and go and charge, wait no power :P

To me this is the most ridiculous thing especially during cold weather. So not only is your house without power but if it's a long outage your car will be too and you're going to be stranded at home. Any appliances that heats things is going to use way more power. Like your hot water dispenser keeping that running during a powder outage to me when you have limited resources available your car is at 60% state of charge. He would be better off getting a power station that you can charge with solar or the wall they are cheap enough now and just having that ready and on standby mode to run small things in your house in the event of a power outage. Lesson learned for an Ev vehicle always keep it fully charged.

So how can an ev help you in a black out ? Well you certainly cant charge your ev without power Well i spose you can use your ev as a barbecue when the battery goes into thermal runaway and burns down your home being in the garage ?

My 2 cents: You didn't mention very important thing - ev car must be switched ON to avoid 12v battery discharge. Second - it would be convenient to power the whole house. Extension cord put into any power outlet and that's all. But very important to shut off power switcher that is powered the house before all the manipulation.
