Retro gaming + bouncing around in booty shorts = heaven. Also, I definitely agree about these games being the predecessor to DDR and Wii fit games. It's very clear especially seeing somebody play them and running in place, stepping around the pad in a specific order, etc. It's too bad those pads were always so cheap, though. I went through like 4 of them playing DDR for the Playstation, and trying to get through every song on the hardest difficulties. I was kind of obsessed with it for a while. Eventually all the dance pads died and I had to play on the controller at the same time as the pad, in order to practice for the arcade version. Yeah, I was that kind of nerd in middle school.

Takes me back to 1989. My friend got one of these. We were both 8. After an hour of Track and Field we both collapsed on his living room floor, panting and wheezing. I believe it was he who discovered that all you had to do was get down on your knees and just smack the pads with your hands. Only problem was doing that just made your arms hurt. So not much of a hack. This was a great nostalgic video. I’m buoyed by the fact that you seemed to have as much problems now as I remember us having back then. The power pad is just pure evil.

I used to love the power pad games as a kid. I never had one, but my best friend, Molly, did. We'd play the Track Meet game all the time. During the races, she was in charge of the straight sprints where I got to take on the hurdles. We never used the hand trick, but we did figure out you don't gotta actually pick your feet up; the little buttons are weight sensitive so if you just keep your feet on the buttons during the running part and shift your weight back and forth super fast, you could run like most amazing of 8 bit winds. Aww yeah! Lol you were rocking out over there, Erin! You keep training and you too can one day brag about leaving that cheetah runner in the dust. If I ever go to a high school reunion, you best believe I'll still be bragging about it

I remember the holiday season, 1987...I was 8 years old, and all I wanted for Christmas was a Nintendo Entertainment System. I lived with my mom, who was single at the time, and doing everything in her power to raise me, and my younger brother. Though I never went without a meal, we were definitely feeling the pressure of living in poverty. We had a nonworking furnace, and the only source of heat in our drafty house was a beat up wood burner. Still, when my Mom asked me what I wanted for Christmas that year, I excitedly blurted out, "I'd like a Nintendo!!" She looked upon me sadly and said, "I'm sorry honey... Those are too expensive, and we simply don't have the money." Though I politely told her that I understood, I spent the remainder of the month of December secretly bummed out because I knew I wasn't going to get the one present I wanted.....Christmas time arrived, and I remember looking under the tree, and seeing hardly any gifts for me. I remember trying to remind myself to still be grateful, and appreciative of even the meager bounty I was about to recieve. As I opened my first gifts, it was mostly clothes, and a single G.I. Joe. From the looks of things, I thought that was going to be it, but then....my Mom brought a big boxed present out from the closet she was hiding it in, and said, "Merry Christmas son. I love you!" You see, there was a reason there were hardly any gifts under the tree that morning. My Mom scraped, and saved every penny she possibly could, just to buy me an NES pack, which also included the light gun, and Power Pad!! She also busted out a couple of games as well, much to my shock, and unexpected delight. Now that I'm in my 40's, I still look back and consider that morning as the day I recieved the greatest gift I have ever received; and it's not just due to the fact that I got what I wanted. Fiscally speaking, there was no way my Mom could've logistically been able to afford that.....And still, in spite of that, she bought it anyways....... because she loved me. That, in itself, is the reason why it's the first thing I think of when I look back on my favorite Christmas gifts. Included with the set was a 3 in 1 game cartridge, that contained Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, and that Olympic game you had such difficulty playing. Don't worry...you weren't the only one. I could never beat any of the contestants in any of the sports, and I quickly grew tired of losing; so I began using my fingers in place of my feet to go significantly faster! 🤣 If you were wondering why that Olympian challenger was named Turtle, it's because he's the slowest one. I forget the second guy's name (Maybe Rabbit?). But the final opponent, who naturally is the fastest, is named Cheetah. I promise you....no matter how good you get at playing with the Power Pad, you will never beat him if you play the way the pad is intended to be. You must do the finger tapping cheat in order to achieve victory, and win that coveted gold medal. Lol! Welp, this comment ended up being much longer than initially intended. Thank you for helping to usher in that personal trip down memory lane. It's quite nice to revel in nostalgia from time to time. 😊

Back in the day I had one of those DDR pads that was basically the exact same material. To get around that POS sliding around everywhere, I used a bunch of double sided tape to stick it to a piece of plywood cut to the same size. It worked really well with that, so I imagine it'd make the Powerpad stay in place, while making it more responsive as well.

This video is a shining example as to why I'm glad I subscribed to her channel. Even if she knows she might not do the best job, Erin still tries her best to do her best. Its one of the reasons I'll always appreciate the effort she put into her videos. Here's hoping her and Mike have a good Christmas. Happy holidays everybody!

I remember these games from when I was a kid. I couldn't do them then, and I certainly couldn't do them now. These games were brutal. I remember getting down and slapping the pad as quickly as we could with our hands because that was the only way for us to go fast. :D

So the real question is: Do people speed run these games and is there a “no hands any%” category? Cause that would bring a whole new meaning to Speed Running...

the first console my parents bought me was the NES Power Pack...came with the power pad, blaster, NES, and a multicart with track & field, duck hunt, and super mario bros. The track pad was not something we really cared for as it was so spotty.

If I remember right for Track & Field, its not how fast you can tap your feet, It has to do with timing, like if you lift your left leg all the way up, while just your right toe touches, then your right... you get faster the more your stride is like a real stride in place. I remember this being much faster than frantically trying to tap dance as fast as possible to run.

I had a power pad as a kid. I don’t think we ever used us as intended. Running game? Used hands. Jumping game? Used hands. Man it was great.

12:44 _"I don't know what year it is -- HELP!"_ My cousin had the Power Pad and World Class Track Meet, when I was a child I was able to beat the Tournament once in my life, Cheetah was extremely hard to beat. I was probably 8 or 9 years old back then. Last month I found my cousin's Power Pad in my storage room, I had forgotten that she gave it to me probably 20 years ago! I'm going to try and beat Cheetah again, as a fat 36 year old. I probably won't be able to do it, but I'll keep trying! If anything, its a good way to burn a few calories! Anyway, fun video, thanks for making it!

This the first time I have actually seen someone playing with the Nintendo Power Pad! I didn't know anyone back in the 80s that had or played with the Power Pad on their Nintendo so it was interesting and fun seeing Erin play NES games on the Power Pad. However I won't be playing one anytime soon as it seems more like an exercise in the power of frustration!

I loved our power pad growing up. We had so much fun with World Class Track meet. The level of competition went through the roof when we realized that you could use your fists to initiate running and jumping.
