I use box squats every week with bands both for myself and my clients. I only started this about 8 weeks ago... SS Bar went from 405 to 470. Anderson squat went from 455 on a regular bar to 485 on SS Bar. Low bar went from 485x3 to 495x8. Literally everyone I've worked with on this cycle has gotten at least a 30-40 pound gain by adding raw box squats. All raw lifters, too. There's still much to be learned for this carryover lol.

Rotating free squat, pause squat and then box squat in waves sounds awesome, I will start doing that! Informative video, thanks

I make them all squat with a wide stance off the box to build hip strength to use strength to get out of the hole on a full squat vs. Using rebound to get out

Usually try to Oly squat but will try 10 weeks of box squatting to parallel 2x per week. I’ll see how it goes.

Front box squats or front squat to a bar is killer my core strength which was lacking has significantly gone way better and I’m confident to say that my 1rm squat probably has increased.

So how does having the hammies involved help a raw lifter? Aren't they pretty much only for bracing when squatting raw?

Brace plus the stretch reflex at the bottom. If your hams can handle more on the way down your quads will be fresher on the way up.

I am a competitive raw powerlifter. Box squatting for raw guys is fucking retarded. This is why all the super training guys (geared and raw) tend to squat high. Lose the box, hit the depth.

well using the box works for all my raw lifters at dirty south barbell. they see pr's everytime they max and if they do have a problem with depth then they train with a lower box. pretty simple

Why is it so hard to fathom? The conjugate system is an amazing system that works for everyone. If you dont see gains then your not doing it right

southerncooker05 Now I know you're fucking with me. The conjugate system is by far the most inapplicable thing for raw lifters. You know how many raw lifters with actual world records you see using the westside shit? Yup, fucking zero. There's a reason for that. And I myself watched all of Louie's videos, read the books and applied the method to my own training, and got weaker. Why? Because that shit is for overweight fat boys stuffed into multiply canvas suits.

It may not be optimal, but it does allow me to get extra squat work in and keep stress off my knees. After I tore my ACL i spent about 7 months on the box and set a 100 lb low bar squat PR after a 2 or 3 weeks without the box.

Is this geared specifically towards low bar squatters? I high bar squat, and the best movements to increase my squat are the... well, squats. Why remove the stretch reflex one generates during the squat? Why not practice how to utilize the stretch reflex to the lifter's advantage more often, and train the movement to its capacity in its original form, rather than introducing more variables?

Matt Gaub this is geared towards squatters of all types. stretch reflex is very important, but that alone will not give you a super strong squat. the box squat trains not only what you work on normal squats, but more importantly, it trains auxiliary muscles. it trains the weaknesses in the squat and not the strengths in the squat.

High bar and Front squats work 10 times better then box squats, don't bother wasting your time on them.

The Bearded Powerlifter i dont think jeeza upea does boxsquats, he does 400kg front squats, derek kendall does heavy front squats and even ray williams never seen him doing box squat. Heck even eric lilliebridge or zahir wont bother doing them. Bottom line is boxsquats are overrated even pete rubish admits he wasted time doing them and that guy was going hard as fuck on boxsquats. Lol we are talking raw lifting here not westside quater squats.

Kirk Karwoski, Ed Coan, Larry Wheels, Dan Green(?). The old school and the new don’t box, mostly because it doesn’t translate to athletes in any other sport.
