In this video, I examine two products from a company that makes lithium batteries. Rather than review a battery, I want to check out a pair of accessories: a 40 amp lithium charger and a battery monitor display panel with a 500A shunt.
First, I unbox them, review the contents, and then install and give you a demo of each. As a test bed, I'm using my truck toolbox power station, which I've been tinkering with for a while now. It currently contains a SOK 280Ah lithium battery, SRNE 40 amp solar controller, 40 amp Renogy DC-DC charger, and a 1500 watt ALFFAA inverter.

I have 3 power queen minis and I love them, I've also got 2 of those 40a chargers. I've been running them full time since February 1st in Atlantic Canada in my off grid trailer/home

Thank you for the review. I've been trying to talk myself into one. The past years I really haven't needed one as my solar or the genny plugged into the main trailer feed has been working pretty well. The main feed (converter) to the trailer will charge at about 12-14 amps, This would do it a bit quicker.

You're welcome :) The same one is sold by LiTime www.litime.com/products/litime-14-6v-40a-lithium-battery-charger-for-12v-lifepo4-lithium-battery so keep an eye out for sales, these companies often have discounts.

Hi Ray, I noticed that it looks exactly like the Renogy 500A shunt.

Thanks Ray! I guess I’m spoiled with my Victron shunt and app. I would rather pay extra for better design and quality.

This one looks a lot like the Victron amzn.to/3tIj39W I wonder if it's a knock off or Victron is getting theirs built by the same company.

Hi Ray. I love your repair videos and I've learned a LOT by watching your clever solutions to problems that happen to RVs (slide room floor delam, motor failures, etc.) But, as a years-long viewer, I feel that when it comes to battery reviews, your objectivity gets a bit lost. Litime makes a great battery that far outclasses most other batteries in the low cost price range. Litime batteries are built tough, built right, exceed their specifications, and have amazing customer service. Please don't consider all batteries in that range the same because they aren't. You are doing yourself and your viewers a huge disservice if you do. I know you are beholden to the companies that provide you premium grade products, but your viewers are used to your usual objectivity that just isn't there for batteries. Most of your viewer's don't get free Lion Energy or SOK batteries shipped to them. We need to maximize our value. You are going to have 2 types of viewers- those of us who can see your lack of objectivity and diminish our respect a bit, and those that can't see it and therefore won't consider buying a low-cost (yet premium) battery on your say so. In this review you were super critical of then for not having included a fuse for a wire (that would ordinarily be connected to a fuse block anyway) but said little good about the rest! From what I could see, the kit looked very well packaged- as good as any offering from "premium" companies. I've bought a bunch of LCI stuff because of your glowing endorsements only to find them to be junk compared to other brands. Everyone know LCI is like McDonald's everywhere and available, but not close to the best. I know these people send you free stuff to review, but don't forget your viewers "pay" you too and deserve objectivity. Have a good one and congratulations on your recent nuptials. Best to you and Anne.

Do you have any specifics as to why Litime batteries are better than Power Queen batteries

I have reviewed a LiTime battery when they called themselves Ampere Time. I didn't find it overly well built, lots of tape and foam and a glued together plastic case, but not bad for the money I guess but not stellar. BMS was faulty and they had to ship me a new one. It was a 200Ah model with only a 100 amp BMS. Maybe they are better now but I was less than impressed. I've reviewed many lower priced batteries, some were not too bad. But that experience soured me on LiTime and their clones. Here is my lithium playlist if you want to see those videos kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmi5dYywraZsj7s As far as LCI goes, I've said good and bad about all their stuff. They don't actually make much themselves. Instead, they tend to buy up companies or license products, some are good, and some are bad. It's hard to generalize that it's all the same. I'm still using many in our rig and like most of the items. The items I didn't like I was pretty negative about Better Weigh OBD2 gadget, entrance door hinges, and the Furrion Stove had some issues with heating temps. www.loveyourrv.com/tag/LCI/ Cheers, Ray

Thanks for the response, Ray. And, fair enough. I think AmpereTime changed their name when they changed their manufacturing and quality practices.

LiTime has recently been after me to review another battery so maybe I will take them up on the offer when I have time and see how they have improved them.

How long would it take for a 40 amp charger to fully charge 2-208 Ah batteries in 12v parallel. Is there a formula for this? Good job on the truck to RV configuration.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 7 ай бұрын
That configuration would have a total capacity of 416 amp hours. So 416Ah divided by 40 amps = 10.4 hours. I'd round it up to 11 hours just to account for any heat losses in wiring, BMS, etc.

@Love Your RV & Boat! - Junctek vs power queen battery monitor feedback after a year of usage?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 28 күн бұрын
The Junctek is my choice. I'm using it on my boat to monitor a pair of 240Ah lithium batteries. It has more settings and options and also a Bluetooth phone app. The app is a major difference for me. The Power Queen display is better in bright light since it is liquid crystal and the shunt is more compact. Both I find will get more and more inaccurate as far as percentage of charge unless the batteries come to 100% full charge fairly often. I don't see a huge differnce between them in that respect. Here was my update video on the Power Queen items kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqPcnn-YYreqfJI Cheers, Ray

does this come wit all necessary cables? i dont think it does looking at their website. i have 3 power queen premium 2 batteries in parallel and i need something like this. also, would i need just one shunt or 3?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 3 ай бұрын
It comes with what you need except a small fuse for the little power cable and a short cable the same size of your existing main negative cable to be able to wire the shunt inline with it. You only need one shunt unless you want to monitor the batteries separately instead of as one bank.

More likely, Renogy buys from the same Chinese manufacturer. I noticed that many of the Renogy branded solar controllers are actually made by SRNE. Cheers, Ray

The battery monitor looks like a nice little unit @ $85.00 CAD - I like the display (the Renogy unit looks exactly the same). Thanks Ray! - Cheers! Each "part" of your systems' wiring looks simple enough, but the overview of the entire system is a little overwhelming. - lol

I have the 20ah version of the charger, used it 6x or so. Works well. Doesn't show any details but it's fine. i believe many battery companies put their name on this charger. The clamps seem a but scrawny but what do I know, it works. It's a bit small for my batteries and the clamp cable is a bit short where it splits. The monitor looks identical to my renogy. I had the same problem with the sent power cable but I made it work. I thought the same about the power block. I could attach it to my fuse panel but I would rather have it on the btty. Btw I have the power queen batteries, so far so good. About 10 charges. Love your reviews. Very clear explanations. I hope my red power cable doesn't fall out of that green block, I have no idea how I will get it back in. 😅 btw on the monitor I had to change setting, when my DC DC charger kicked on, the monitor thought my battery was full. There was a vid I found about this.

Thanks! :) I think the Power Queen stuff is the same as the LiTime which was previously Ampere Time. I even saw a reference to that brand in a Power Queen manual. Also, Renogy seems to use the same battery monitor. So must be lots of rebranding going on, But if it works for a decent price that's all that's counts. Cheers, Ray
