I've done this job many times, and I'm still wondering why people remove the shroud and fan. Totally unnecessary. Disconnect neg battery cable. Take the belt off. Disconnect the alternator connector, not the power wire, take the two bolts out, set it to the rear. Disconnect the two hydraulic lines. Remove the four alternator/pump bracket bolts and one behind the pump. Slide the bracket/pump straight up, take it completely out of the vehicle. Then remove the pulley and mount bolts, swap the other parts from old to new pump, put the pulley back on, then slide the whole thing back in. Reverse process. Saves time and no fighting with the puller while bent over the front end. Sounds harder but it's much easier and saves time.

Mine went out 2 days ago. I was surprised it was without warning, or maybe I just wasn't paying attention..... I just called a nearby place and they want $980 to do it. Thanks to your video I feel more confident doing it myself. For some reason I thought one of the hoses was a high-pressure hose that made it best for a shop to do it. Not sure why I thought that tho. Wish I had done it 6 months ago when I replaced the water pump. Anyways, thanks for posting.

Dope video. Followed it every step of the way. Now I’m trying to put the replacement in and have found that my bracket is different. I have two stud bolts that I can’t get out of the old pump to put on the new pump. I called Auto Zone, Advance, NAPA and Parts Authority and neither of them carry the stud bolts. I’m dead in the water trying to find for a 2003 5.3 1500 Chevy express.

I get a random “traction active” message and lose power for a second from standstill acceleration and sometimes while turning from a stop. I rebuilt my leaky steering gear box and changed my bad high pressure hose but still have a small leak coming from somewhere else as I see small splatter marks in the surrounding areas. Could it be my pump/reservoir?

Hey I have a 2005 Yukon SLT 5.3L automatic with 218,000 miles. All stock equipped. Doesn't make any noise of any kind, that's abnormal. Well kept and daily driver. I drove it out on the highway for 300 miles and when I exited Interstate it was in manual steering mode...stiff to turn like it had no pump at all. And the brakes were not boosted either. It's not the belt or fluids of steering or brakes...all good. No leaks. No codes. No smells. No noises of pump failure. It only does it at low rpms when coming to stop, under 700 rpm. It works fine when above that. And the brakes are unboosted when it does it also, but work. This is the pump I assume? Remove and replace eh? Suggestions of what pump brands you had success with? I'm eyeballing the O'Reily $72 special. Thanks!

Was it squealing when you turned the wheel either way before you replaced it? I have an 03 silverado and it’s squealing when I turn either way at certain angles and the power steering fluid is full and it doesn’t seem to go down really I’m not sure what’s wrong with it I think the steering rack and pinion is bad too because it’s giving all the symptoms of it
