I will be installing a Power Vent Water Heater soon. Your video gave me the confidence to make it happen. I am still reading through the instruction manual. If I may ask a question. Is there a reason I should install 3 inch verses a 2 inch PVC vent pipe? Why the choice? I am probably over thinking it. Thank you for the awesome video.

There is a recirculating valve on the market that brings hot water to to the fixture and carries cold back to the tank. Don't remember the brand but I r&r'd one on a bathroom sink during a remodel.

MI Heating guy! Nice video! I have a sediment trap question. My Power vent just failed on me, so I acquired an unit that was nearly the same 100K btu. Also the same Brand as you have here (State, AO Smit etc...) The slight difference for me on the new unit, is the gas enters on the top of the tank and is threaded 1/2 npt into the top of the gas gas control valve instead of entering the side. How do you do the post valve Sediment trap? Obviously I can come out and elbow to vertical but must the pre shut off valve sediment trap be a certain distance from where it enters the heater? Reason being my gas enters opposite side of the tank and I have to get over the blower unit and hot and cold water supply lines. I guess I am asking, for space sake if I can run my black pipe for several feet out of the unit before putting my valve and sediment trap?
@MiHeatingGuy
@MiHeatingGuy 9 ай бұрын
Just come off the new valve with a short nipple and a tee. Put your trap right at the bottom of the tee. Then connect your gas to the top of the tee

Great to watch a true professional working his trade. I worked in automotive coatings for a very long time & we had a plumber that covered the 5 sites we had, I worked on the technical side and also drew up plans for modifications and any new plants. I always included him in any design meetings & I learned a lot from him, I know if he was watching you he'd say this guy knows his stuff. Unfortunately, he died of cancer many years ago before u tube & the computer age. Thanks for the video.

I Hate to sound like a hater, but the soldering skills were not correct. You should always take apart the plastic parts to the union and solder it away from the heater. The flame needs to be in the area you want the solder to travel , not away from it. As you cool it place back the fittings and reassemble the pipe and never re-flux a finished solder joint. Just lightly wipe with dry cloth then cool with water or wet rag. BTW, it wouldn't hurt to bleed the air out the gas line before you start up the heater so the ignition won't lock out... Just a friendly tip.

I have a question. I am about to replace and install new for a home owner. What should I charge for this installation. I sweat all my copper. He wants to know what I will charge him? I’m not a licensed contractor but I’ve been in the business for 18 years and I do my research and I’m thorough. Any idea of cost. I’m trying to help the guy out, a friend through a friend deal. Already been dealing with it since last Friday which is almost a week. Honeywell gas valve gave off code# 3. TCO or pressure switch failed open. I replaced both pressure switches on the power vent and still nothing. They told me it was probably the hi limit snap disc under the pressure switch. I am replacing that and the gas valve on Friday. That will make it 7 days of research and calling the manufacturer and 6 different plumbing houses with no luck finding parts. Haven’t charge a penny yet because I haven’t fixed the problem. I’m just not good at estimating cost for my time if anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it I don’t wanna overcharge but I definitely don’t want to under charge. Thanks

@@AnthonyAlfaro22 can you send me a pic of the gas valve and front of the burner assembly. There may be a tco switch on the burner assembly that is old. If you put a new one in that may be the issue. Now I've come across that same issue where I replace the switch and the gas valve stem is defective so gas valve has to be replaced

What's a plumber ? In southern Calif. I call the plumber, pay high plumber rates, and a person comes to do the job--not a plumber--and almost always I get a half-assed job. No plumber license is required to do plumbing--a plumber (licensed) owns the business and sends out guys who have incentives to make extra money over their hourly pay. A plumbing license here is a path to a big income.
@brendand1325

Same with HVAC apprentices, they call them. But no bonus for them for installation and service as far as I know. No license. The man with the license is in the office--or making bank deposits.

@@jackblack9830 there were many times that I wished I didn’t know the difference between right and wrong because I’d have completed the service call easily; but I chose to do the right thing: to code. It’s a water heater replacement; he was at the vendor because he picked up a new heater. He could have purchased Type L, or went looking. He’s not in the boonies. He didn’t need dielectric unions but chose to install them. Why do the “right “ thing but completely fail on another. He didn’t ream the pipe either. Fluxed a soldered joint, etc. I didn’t bother finishing the video after I saw the Type M pipe. I went straight to comments and called BS. It baffles me how he works for someone and posts this garbage. I wonder if his employer sees this. There’s professionals who do not accept work like this. I’m one of them.
