This is a great comparison. One point of analysis that I agree is missing from car audio cable is the temp ratings. Typical welding / battery cable has 105C rating which I suspect is much higher than car audio cables.

Again one more video where I learnt something. Thank you for making such video.

There is a difference between class M and class K welding wire too. Class M has smaller strands and is even more flexible, it is also rated to carry more amperage with a more durable sheath.

EC = european community (old naming for what is today the european union) Thanks for the video! I used welding wire in my first ever install, like 10+ years ago, mainly because the price of "dedicated" amp wire was insane back then. I'm researching for my current car install, and got to you clip :) I'm definitely going for welding wire.

Is the welding wire something that welders may have scraps laying around to give away? Or what they have lasts a long time and they wouldnt have un needed amounts laying around❓
@RAW-CAt4 ай бұрын
Doubt it. It's not a consumable. Everybody buys only what they need.

That welding cable looks to be quite cheap as its flexibility is restricted, decent welding cable is very flexible. as you say the spec sheet will tell you the number of strands and it will vary depending on the grade, also welding cable comes in double insulated for even more insulation....

main reason of tinning + hair thin stands in "audio" wire is to sell you as less copper as possible ) more surface area = more tin. so this "OFC" wire is mostly tin actually.

One last thing - If you could test the electrical conductivity/ Voltage drop across these cables, we'll get to know if Stinger literally makes any sense at all !!

Raw cat. A fellow wire aficionado. Just watched an absurs video of a guy burning the jacket on power wire saying how much better welding wire is, and read your comments on his misleadingly titled video.

Thanks for this video. It definitely helped me understand. This welding wire I intend to use for power grid as in my country Pakistan we don't have 50mm2 and above cables available easily and so we have to rely on Welding wires for our needs. Definitely thanks for this video :).

This is a great video but you really only compared one level of audio cable to welding cable. There is oxygen-free cable or ofc for audio as well. But yes, one of your only really delivering power you really only need To worry about amperage ratings and possibly temperature rating. If you're installing this close to any heat inside of your engine compartment. Most of us will be having minimum wiring inside the injured compartment, so temperature rating really isn't an issue.

u cant say Audio Cable has more resistance and other not, without testing the actuall resistance.

How many watts rms have your system in total in order to use 35 mm welding cable? Thanks
@RAW-CAt5 ай бұрын
My amplifiers have much more power available than I need. All combined on max volume probably around 1000W.
@ThePelos19805 ай бұрын
Thanks for replying. My system will be about 2k watts rms so I will need to run 50 mm cable rated to 300 amps or so

Stinger seems to use some sort of alloy, not pure copper.

It's pure copper. Tin plated for corrosion resistance in car.

Can you still solder stinger wire
@alimahdavi22763 ай бұрын
@@barbiegamaestan456well, that "plating", considering how thin the individual strand is, is basically gonna be the whole cross section of the wire. I didn't see no copper in that stinger wire tbh

Welding wire ftw! Grams in America are "grams". 😉
@RAW-CAt Жыл бұрын
I thought you are using ounces and butter sticks😁
@colbydolby6559 Жыл бұрын
@@RAW-CAt well anything under an ounce we just add butter..because grams is rather small. Plus as an added bonus, the butter gives copper a smoother response..doesn't sound like the tinned stuff.
