Love the way you showed in real-time how much each major appliance consumed. In a real power outage with that interlock I’d be concerned that the water heater or AC would come on when not wanted and drain the battery quickly. This is why I have a transfer switch to have more control.

Thanks! That is why I love to do this type of video because its real! With the generator interlock, you are making your panel the "transfer switch" so you can have all the control and turn the AC and loads off you want. @@AveRage_Joe ok I get it now. You just manually flip off the water heater etc in an outage. I’m getting a FranklinWH soon and it can shed two 220 or four 110 loads. I have a transfer switch now and it can stay around with the FranklinWH so it will be interesting to see how I use both. Options.

You need to balance your 120 V loads as although the inverter is 6000 watts (at 240 VAC), it will not run 6000 watts to a single leg of 120 VAC. So, if you want to run the saw and the air compressor at the same time, put one on L1 and the other on L2.
@GordLamb
@GordLamb 9 ай бұрын
Actually, I suspect they *were* on different branches, and starting the saw caused the Solix to drop the opposite branch (with the compressor). Just by coincidence the lights were on the same branch as the saw. The compressor stopped completely (wasn't a power sag) so I bet that branch dropped to 0V for a few seconds; if the saw was on the same branch it would have stopped accelerating.

I love the real world test you did on this thing … I’m looking for a solar generator (or just a battery backup) to power our house during outages. I also love the Happy St Patrick’s Day towel on the oven door along with the Christmas decorations 🤘👍
@markjob6354
@markjob6354 10 ай бұрын
The real practical question is not what can it run, rather, how long can it run it ? What good is it to be able to run an oven if you can only do so for 24 minutes ? Obviously, this solar genny has a great inverter system in it, but if you're really going to do home backup properly, then you probably should get two of these units with at least 1 external battery for each unit and parallel connect them for better capacity. Bridge connecting will allow you to connect enough external solar to each unit to greatly counteract your drain rate while on full blown house backup mode. Charge all Day and drain all Night. The average household will consume 3.5 Kw just cooking diner alone in the evening, whereby your house lights are on, your oven and stove are in use, and you're opening the fridge allot.
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 10 ай бұрын
100% correct. In a full blown outage you would run minimal items. If you add another in parallel along with another battery or 2. You could have a really sweet backup system.

Nice, though I do wish the MPPT charger had a higher max voltage. That's the one limit most of these units have, even upping it from 60 volts to 100 or 120 volts would be a nice improvement, especially since it can take up to 2400 watts. Price wise its very nice as well.

Yeah the MPPT voltage is low. I wonder if they did that to stay in the "portable" solar market or RV market. Seems they always use 12-24v panels. 2400watts isnt bad tho. I wanted to try that so bad but its been so damn cloudy here plus Id have to go on the roof and rewire everything🙄🤷‍♂️

The problem with the battery UPS is it might be good for a few hours but if you lose power for a couple days your back to square 1 I would be interested in a discussion of product cost plus installation of a unit like described in the video vs. a Generac unit running off of propane or natural gas. I think right now if I had Natural gas piped to my home I would do the Generac and never have to worry about charging after a few hours.

I would hope that people who lose power would not decide to power their whole house A/C. A used window unit, kept in reserve, could be powered by the unit in a pinch. Clothes dryers aren't a necessity, use a clothes line during a crisis, and stoves are best left off, again, a simple propane emergency stove (single or double) and a BBQ grill can be used as a substitute. Fridge is critical, freezers are critical, but use the food up ASAP, ditto with the fridge. Finally, reduce waste by giving a BBQ for neighbors. They'll become life long friends.

@markb1911
@markb1911 28 күн бұрын
It’s a simple calculation that you can make based on your homes draw. This battery unit has 3.8kw/h of storage, which means it can run a 3.8kw load for 1hr, and I think the max this unit can supply is 5kw, which with that storage capacity, it could run for about 40mins. So let’s say you’ve got a central air conditioner that pulls 3kw to run. This backup could run it for about 1hr-15mins. So to put it simply, although this unit CAN power most of the loads that a home would have, (soft start needed for central a/c) it can do most of the large ones for about 1hr before needing to be recharged. This is why he mentioned the solar panels at the end. Because you would need something charging it for it to be able to maintain loads in your house for an extended period of time. This is more of a battery “buffer” than it is a total power backup, if that makes sense.

I find solar and portable power to be very interesting. My father Inlaw was going to help with us going with solar panels but they to me would do no good as our roof would have to be replaced . Plus if power went out we would still have no power anyway. To buy enough batteries for the house as well would cost so much money that it just does not make it worth it. Now with just with one of these units there is no way to power the whole house . Anything that you plugged it that used a decent amount of power reduced the time running to nothing worth while . It would require tieing in a few together. Costing to much money to be worth it . This one seems to be rather expensive to others i have seen reviewed . It is also more important to see how these work as they are not all the same and each one has each owns pros and cons. I will look more into your channel if you go into detail on the details of any of these units . I watch another channel where they break down these units in simple detail and show why or why not it is recommended . These would be best used with a few easy to set up solar panels. Important that these generators are able to accept a fast charge through solar to be viable . Interesting video. Will check out more of your videos.

I want to use it as a UPS for my home network and my aquarium. I tried this with the Ecoflow delta pro and it just shuts off power output after running for a few weeks. Happened twice with 2 separate units. EF support eventually told me I have to "do maintenance" and drain the battery once a month for it to work as a UPS, this of course is not ideal.

I find these big power stations an interesting approach to trade money for thinking. Given the cost, and the weird limitations for solar input, and the lock-in for upgrades, I just don't see this being a good option for me. I'd prefer to wire up my own generic batteries, to the inverter of my choice, and choose appropriate charge controllers for suitable solar input. Oh, and then maybe add some different batteries next year for more storage, and maybe swap inverters in a couple of years to handle bigger loads. I think I'm covered for transportable stuff... I purchased a Delta 2 Max last spring to fill most of the portable niche. I can use a 48v battery on the solar inputs to pump in 1000 watts of "expansion." I also have 200Ah at 24V and a 3kw inverter on a tool cart for "transportable." The battery is split with a big anderson connector so I can swap to 400Ah at 12v and use a smaller inverter for longer, low wattage use.

I did just get the delta pro ultra. The ultra is just a bigger unit compared to the f3800. Bigger inverter, bigger battery and has 2 solar inputs. One is 150v and other is 500v. It really depends on the usage. If you want portability(as in taking camping or RV or where ever and bring it back inside), you would want the f3800. The ultra is "portable" but super heavy.

Hey Joe… when you are reviewing these units can you talk about recharging them with a small generator instead of solar panels. I like Anker products. We are in Florida and with extended power outage it would be nice to be able to run our AC for a bit. There is a 50 amp Soft-Start device used for RV’s that is plugged into the power cord and not installed in the AC unit. I wounded if that would work for a residential AC unit? Thanks for all your helpful information. JR

Yeah I could mention using a generator for recharging in a power outage type scnario. Its basically the same as plugging into the wall of your house OR using a dc charger and using the solar input. I havent tried an inline soft start but it would probly help.

I may not be understanding this properly, but when you had the dryer on, it showed 12 minutes remaining use time. Does that actually mean you can only use the dryer for 12 minutes before it totally drains the battery? if that's in fact what it means, it it really worth it to have one of these?

How long can it power a 1/2HP Sump Pump which many people want to know for blackout emergencies?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 7 ай бұрын
Thats a great question. Since I dont have one, I just went online to see the running watts of a 1/2hp sump pump. It shows around 1050 running watts. If that is true, the pump could run over 3 to 3-1/2hrs. That is straight on and not turning off. If you have the expansion battery then the run time doubles. I have a question since I dont have one. Do sump pumps run for hours at a time or does it run for short amounts of time. If its on/off all the time then the run time will go way up.

How does this compare to the equivalent Ecoflow? Is there any other one that you would recommend? I'm in FL and hurricane season is coming, and I have a 3/2 home with a 4 ton A/C Unit. Looking to find a manual switch over generator like the Anker Solix and later hook up solar to it as well.

I did a comparison video between the F3800 with expansion battery and EcoFlow Delta pro Ultra. Purely going off specs they are close. The ecoflow has better options for solar. Anker is moar portable. Both can start my 4ton AC but I have a soft start on mine. If you want to power your entire home and use the AC "long term" in an outage, you would need a few expansion batteries on either system.

Can you charge this power station from a 120 volt inverter generator like a Dual Fuel Champion Invertor Generator, while using the 240 volts from the Anker Solix F3800 power station? I know that I can't charge my two EcoFlow Delta Pros from 120 volt grid power or an inverter generator power when I have the two Ecoflow Delta Pros hooked together for split phase 120/240 volt power. I did another video using it in a simulated power outage. We had -15f temps, I ran my critical loads panel which powered 2 fridges, some lights, cable modem and router, a pot of coffee and my furnace. Furnace ran the entire time since it was so cold out. We ran for about 6hrs. Most of the load was the furnace. They also have a bundle kit deal going on right now. Here is the link to the other video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqncaWyDodijnpI

I just received my F3800. Nice and ready to go. But?? I ask Anker Support about charging the powerhouse with my DeWalt generator. My initial concern was the gen puts out 120v 20 amp = 2400 watts. Anker only accepts 1800 and wanted to know if this would be a problem. Watts no problem but the gen is. My gen is not a pure sine wave. Modified sine which almost all gas gens are. So the dilemma is that could damage the unit just like other sensitive electronic. So the question with this new Anker F3800 and your out of power for 3 days and its raining, how do you charge the unit?
@AveRage_Joe
@AveRage_Joe 8 ай бұрын
Right so I have not tried a modified sine genny so I cant say for sure. My only other suggestion would be to get an AC to DC charger and charge from the AC output from gen to solar input on the F3800. I would shoot for around 60vdc like a 56 to 58.8v lithium charger. Ill look around and see if there are better options.
@budmartin3344
@budmartin3344 8 ай бұрын
The generator can supply up to 2400W of power, it does not force 2400W into the load, so if the Anker can only draw 1800W then that is what Anker will draw from the generator, just look at this way, your wall AC outlet in your house can supply up to 120V x 15A = 1800W, so if you plug a 100W lamp into the socket the lamp will draw only 100W the outlet is not going to force 1800W into the lamp. It is good to have generator with 20% head room above maximum load, I'm not sure the Anker will like to feed with modified sine wave, I would suggest using Inverter generator.

I just don’t get it with these battery stations. So it showed you had 4 hours of battery left, or a lot less if you actually power stuff. What are you supposed to do when that battery runs out? Roll solar panels out and wait hours or days for it to charge? I have the solix c1000. It will power a little space heater for about an hour and a half. I just don’t get what you’re supposed to do once it’s dead. Wait for solar?
@mr.c6674
@mr.c6674 8 ай бұрын
It helps you survive a little longer without power. They don't replace your usual power source while you live as if there is no outage. People are spoiled to the point they can't make adjustments for a few hours or a couple of days by conserving energy.
