Or you could cut the end of your power cord and the end of a USB and after you tie the ends together you have a free USB cable.

Yes and no. One end is a USB-A connector and the other end is the barrel connector compatible with the 4200 series Roku models, e.g. the Roku 3. I've used one of these power adapters for several years. It works great.
