Power Addicts - FixJeeps.com - Jeep, car and motorcycle tips hey chuck an off topic question , how would I measure the lift kit on my jeep yj, I bough the jeep from a guy few years ago and it came lifted but he didn't know what size of lift kit it had and I was a new to the off-road scene , but now I get asked a lot what size/type of kit do I have and I don't know how to answer that lol, any suggestions ?? I have pro comp es3000 shocks (SOA) on 35in discover cooper tires
@Poweraddicts7 жыл бұрын
A quick and easy way would be to measure a stock YJ and then measure yours. Measure from the top of the springs at the lowest arch point up to the frame. Then you gotta factor in the SOA of about 5.5" of additional lift. Even then it will more of a general estimate because of springs settling on the lift and the stock Jeep you measure from. Also As far as brand, maybe you will get lucky and find some form of paint markings or stampings on the springs to ID them. Sorry I didnt have a cut and dried answer. Hope this gives you a general idea.

I broke my front sway bar links and waited for a month for my backordered quick discos to come in from rubicon express. Needless to say, I would not condone running without a front swaybar, especially in a Jeep. It felt like I was gonna roll every time I made a corner, and I'm on stock suspension. I got used to it but I still wouldn't reccomend it.

Power Addicts - Thanks for the vid! My question, in my very limited experience getting the disconnects disconnected is pretty easy. Hooking them back up is a bit more of a problem. getting 3 of the 4 pins is relatively easy. However, unless the Jeep is sitting perfectly level it's a pain to get the holes to line up perfectly so I can then slide the last pin in. Generally, I carry a 2x4 or use a rock to compress the suspension to make get the holes to line up. Is there a better way?

I have disconnects like this and just disconnected for the 1st time recently. My problem was actually reconnecting those on there and getting the pins lined back up. I would get 3 of the 4 lined up doing the top one 1st and would have trouble with the last bottom. Had the pull tire up on something really small even though I thought I was on flat ground. Any hints to make easier?

I havent ran either in many years. I have no track bars. The sway bar has been disconnected tied to the frame for several years.
@dougharlow60376 жыл бұрын
It seems to me your right leaf spring is way off center and looks like it’s ready to break or bind badly when your testing the articulation? I wonder what would happen if you were off roading and there was sideway stress on your leaf spring? Would that be eliminated if the track bar was still attached?
@Poweraddicts6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to point that out. That Jeep took a hit to the side at one time in its life. The tub is a bit shifted on the frame causing the right rear tire to be off center of the wheel well. I did a junkyard lift using GMC Sonoma springs not too long before this video. I had all the springs except the main leaf out of the jeep so I know the springs are in good shape. I really appreciate you taking the time to point that out. Thanks for checking out the vid! Not yet .. but it is getting close! I don't plan on lifting that one anymore. My 1993 YJ build is modded much more than my driver. The trackbar is wut stops the front end from shifting left to right, is that safe to run with ouy it?
@Poweraddicts3 жыл бұрын
That is a debate that spans all over the internet. If you have coil springs up front .. you need the track bars. Leaf spring rigs axles are located by .... the leaf springs. If you have leaf springs .. well lets just say at least 80+% of the people who drive YJs take them out. So I'll say it this way. If a person takes them out and doesn't feel comfortable, put them back in. I haven't ran track or sway bars since I released this video. I drive highway 75mph, city and back roads, I have no issues at all.
@mossyoak7113 жыл бұрын
Ok cool..... I'll give it a shot, I'll keep swaybar with disconnect and pull the track bar out, now that's both front and rear? and as for driving I barely ever make it to 50mph lol I honestly dont think my jeep can go that fast 50 is really pushing her hard
@Poweraddicts3 жыл бұрын
I personally am not running a track bar front or rear on my YJ. I know this may sound like a duh comment .. but .. I've had people get confused and ask about pulling the trac bars off of their TJs (Ita a Jeep Wrangler) if has coil springs .. it must have the track bar.

Wow .. from Germany. Thats cool! I've always wanted to visit there. Greeting from the Tennessee USA! The links in the video you attached are for the new Jeep JK and JKU. They don't fit the YJs like mine. They function similar but bolt in different and are different lengths. When I get time I'm going to design a way to hang the sway bar to the frame like the JK links. So, if you have a YJ like the red one in this video, you need to get the ones I used in this install. Here is the link to the ones I installed on mine. amzn.to/2zkx1Ox They have been performing great since installed. Thanks for dropping in and checking out the video. Have a great day!!

The Rear Diff is malming and broken and I can’t fix this this. But if they is back I will install the sway bars by my self with your videos 👍🏼
@Poweraddicts7 жыл бұрын
The kit in the video link you sent is very similar to the one that I installed on the 2014 JKU. For the YJ, the kit I used on my Jeep is way more simple to install and less expensive. The only drawback is having to be "creative" on how to tie the sway bar up to the frame for wheeling time. It would be easy to come up with a way to secure it to the frame. Maybe within the next couple of weeks, I'll get time to make some and video the process. Hope my video serves you well on installing the disconnects! Sounds like fun if I ever make it over to Germany :-) Have a great day!!
