Jeep YJ Track Bar and Sway Bar Bushing Replacement How To

Watch Jim replace the front suspension sway bar and track bar bushings on this 1989 YJ. These bushings are the original factory bushings and after 32 years, it's time for a replacement! It will really tighten up the front end and improve handling!

Great video - watching from NZ. I have spent hours and hours watching KZbin videos familiarising myself with my newly purchased TJ 5 days ago re required R&M. Your channel is the only one I have subscribed to out of all of them. By the way we all miss call components. Who cares. The only thing that counts is that you know what you are doing and working with tools most of us have or can easily acquire = not a fully fruited workshop with car hoists etc. my only suggestion would be to descriptively title your videos to match content and expand upon in a paragraph or two in description. This will aid others to be able to find your content through keyword searches and grow your channel. Keep ‘em coming Jim and love your teaching style with tips that only come from hands on experience.

Hello sir. Thank you for making this kind os video. I recently bought a 1991 Jeep Wrangler that has worn-out bushings. My question is where do I purchase those bushings? I've looked on Amazon but I am not sure if the parts match my Jeep.

Ivan, go to Rock Auto and search there. They have great name brand parts for a good price. Also, a local part store should be able to help too. I personally like NAPA and Advance Auto. You will pay a little more at these retail places, but sometimes they have stuff in stock. Let me know how it works out!

Lots of useful info for the uninitiated, may l politely sagest you reference some new item part numbers when changing components. This may be of help to others who are following your videos and attempting the same work shown. Sway bar diameter size most probably down to either 2.5 or 4.0 engine weight, and the effects of this would be my guess.

My YJ came without a sway bar need to know what size the 4 mounting bolts are size , type and length. Thanks

Good video, however what you keep calling the track bar is actually the sway bar and sway bar links. I'm sure you just misspoke, I do it all the time.

Do you happen to know what bolt thread/length the driver side away bar mount is? Mine didn't come with one and I've been trying to get one installed and that is my current snag.

how did you get the upper sway bar in length? bolt are not to move. It keeps spinning on me. the one that you had the vice grips on to take it off?

I did a few things... 1. Vice grips, 2. soak it good with PB blaster or similar, 3. If you are replacing the bushing anyway, heat it up and then try to get it off.... I wish it had a nut on the back... Those tricks above should get it loosened up.

track bar if you have leif springs shoud be removed bad ''eng mistake the schackles track, the bar fights tracking danger and part ware. US congress mandate from US congress ignorance. coil springs ok to have track bar .

Track bar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sway bar or as we say in UK anti roll bar ,read your service manual

LOL, Old school jeepers with leaf springs up front remove both front and back sway bars. Axles can't sway with leaf springs. Plus without them you get a lot more travel on each wheel when 4 wheeling uneven mountain trails and rocks. I have never noticed a difference in the ride on the road. And we have windy mountain roads.
