Powerblock VS IronMaster Review - Which should you buy?

Still the best two choices on the market. Nuobell uses cheap plastic cam followers that will break and can't be repaired. Ironmasters are most like real dumbbells will last a lifetime. But they aren't much faster to change than cheap spin-locks. Powerblocks are a lot quicker to change which isn't usually necessary but is a very nice feature to have. They will also last a lifetime, if you don't drop them. But some people don't like the way your hand is inside the handle. Which is best depends on what you want. I wanted quick change, so I went with Powerblocks. After more than a decade I don't regret it.

I appreciate your feedback regarding the speed of weight change for the ironmasters and basically being faster spin locks. IMO the ironmasters are still in the old-school spin lock category, which is fine. Still, if you're looking for a space-saving, quick, weight-changing set of dumbbells, ironmasters are outside the class that power blocks/Bowflex/nuobells are in.

@@agontop1 Just to add to that, I've had my Powerblock U-90s for over ten years and never dropped them. A couple weeks ago I messed up getting into position and they went crashing down from about 2.5 feet up. No damage at all. Still would not recommend for people who tend to drop weights, but they aren't fragile.

An advantage of the ironmaster dumbells system is that the weights can be used for their loadable ketteble and on a barbell. Very versatile. The other system is not as good in these respect

Above 50lbs, Ironmasters is #1. Below that you can make a case for powerblocks but only the metal version. The urethane version is prone to cracking as it happened to me. Plus lifetime warranty on Ironmaster.

@@marucat2797 How many years did it last before the Urethane cracked? I’ve had mine for 2 years so far.

@@vgman94 It was a long time maybe 10 years I’d say and I left it in a room that had a lot of sun. But still, I wouldn’t have expected that coming from the more premium product. After that happened, I got a brand new replacement under the lifetime warranty (no longer exist i think its 5 years) and ended up selling them to get an all metal design. I ended up with the 5-50lb all metal person trainer set which I absolutely love and a set of ironmasters. I owned pretty much every pair of adjustable dumbbells from nuobells to bowflex etc. Nothing matched the durability of the metal powerblocks and ironmasters. I had a set of the original Rexans which I restored and adored but sold it cause I had my ironmasters.

@@vgman94 Either keep them in a super cool area or I would sell them and get an all metal pair for durability. The joints are molded with urethane which is crazy to me for being a premium product. But its necessary for the design to work. I spoke with one of the powerblock customer service people about this.

I have powerblocks and have grown to LOVE the caged feel! But they do take time to make micro adjustments (one needs to remove everything to remove the weight cylinders). I think the best option is to have powerblocks for quicker changes and Ironmaster as a second set. Great for fast round robin workouts.

Great review Sean! I’ve tried almost every single adjustable dumbbell on the market except for the Pepin Fast which I really want to get. Here’s my take: Overall best is a combination of a 5-50lb metal powerblock either personal trainer set or sport 50 plus USA Elite with stages 1-3 up to 90lbs. I have a set of ironmasters that go up to 120lbs but I rarely use them. I have them preset at about 60lbs as sometimes i like to use them for shoulder presses or chest presses but I find myself still using the powerblocks more. In reality, I will favor what is faster as my gym time is usually limited for maybe an hour to an hour and half max. The one thing I do like about the ironmasters is their lifetime guarantee. Also, its easier to put the dumbbell on the stand vs. powerblocks in their nested set of weights. Pepin seems to have a good mix of them with the Pepin Fast dumbbells. Nuobells I thought was one of the best designs out there but it didn’t last. The plastic parts broke after several months and I ended up selling them afterwards. But ya, great video and keep up the great reviews.
