ChatGPT : A WiFi extender and a WiFi repeater are terms often used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference between the two: 1. **WiFi Extender:** - A WiFi extender is a device that extends the range of an existing WiFi network. It does so by creating a new network, often with a different name (SSID), and connecting to the original router wirelessly. - The extender receives the WiFi signal from the router and retransmits it, effectively expanding the coverage area. Devices connect to the extender, and the extender communicates with the router. 2. **WiFi Repeater:** - A WiFi repeater also extends the range of a WiFi network, but it typically works differently. A repeater receives the existing WiFi signal, amplifies it, and then rebroadcasts it. - Unlike an extender, a repeater usually operates on the same network name (SSID) as the original router. Devices seamlessly switch between the router and the repeater as needed. In summary, while both devices aim to extend WiFi coverage, an extender usually creates a separate network, while a repeater amplifies and rebroadcasts the existing network. The choice between the two depends on your specific needs and the features of the devices you are considering.

All I need is conect the new router with cable to the Access point and Base Router. Talking about price I think is almosy the same price a WiFi extender as Netgear than a new Wifi 6 Extended router.

great job man you make great educational videos...but you forgot to mention that a wifi extender is connected to wired internet connection because repeaters are the one connected wirelessly
@thecosmicowlMCMXC4 жыл бұрын
I think you are explaining it more as a "repeater" since it creates its own ssid and gets a chunk of bandwidth which will then result in a reduced internet speed. While Wifi extender simply just extends the range of your wifi signal, links itself to your wifi network without getting a chunk of bandwidth from your main signal while keeping the net speed as is. Great video though.

Correct. But with a WAP you can do more configuring if you want to. Please watch my WAP vs Router video.
@quiquerobles3 жыл бұрын
@@PowerCertAnimatedVideos I did watch your video and that’s where my doubt came from. I don’t know in what case then is better to use a wifi extender than a WAP. Maybe if you don’t have the wire to connect it directly to the router (the WAP).
@HearMeLearn2 жыл бұрын
@@quiquerobles a WAP is better because it has a hard wired (ethernet) connection to the network, so you'll get more consistent and faster speeds (possibly) from the WAP compared to the extender, the only problem is that logistically that might be hard to setup in your house. It's a lot easier to set up an extender so people might just go with that. Another benefit of a WAP is that it is rebroadcasting the same wifi as the router, instead of broadcasting a new signal. So you'd only have to connect to one SSID

@abdallahdalvi45814 жыл бұрын
Yep
@Allen.Fepuleai4 жыл бұрын
I think it needs to receive good signal in order to send a good signal. Otherwise if it’s receiving a weak signal it’ll send out a weak signal.
@jucaguima3 жыл бұрын
This connection does not amplify the signal, as explained in the video, so if the extender is too far from your Wi-Fi router to the point of getting bad signal it will continue to have the same problem half way through between your extender and Wi-Fi router. I learned from my tech school years back… “in the computer world, you can always step down but never step up”. On your particular case, you didn’t solve your problem and instead created an extension of that. :-)

What is the difference between Wi-Fi extenders and wireless access points? To me they look like they pretty much do the same thing… Can anyone explain this?
@JJFlores197 Жыл бұрын
Wifi extenders connect to your main network over wifi. They then create another wifi network which your devices can connect to. This comes with the problem that your extender still needs to be within somewhat close range of your wifi network otherwise the backhaul signal can be weak and will cause slow performance. Wifi access points are directly connected to the router with an ethernet cable. This allows you to have the best performance as it has a wired backhaul to the main network. The downside is that you will need to run an ethernet cable from your router to wherever you want more wifi coverage. It is the best way of using Wi-Fi, but not always the most feasible.

So, if I have 500Mbps speed next to the wifi router and my furthest room has only 85Mbps speed then adding an extender will not boost the speed of the furthest room?
@JJFlores197 Жыл бұрын
Maybe, maybe not. There are too many variables. The best way of getting better wifi coverage and speed is with a wifi access point. The only drawback is that you will need to run an ethernet cable from your router to the area where you need better coverage. Extenders and mesh networks have the drawback that they use a wireless backhaul to communicate with the main network. That's the inherent problem with these setups. They are relatively easy to setup and work ok, but not as great as a physical connection.

Why not rename the ssid to be the same so that the mobile device can access whichever is the strongest signal? Is that where a booster is required rather than an extender? I guess if you can run a cable to the kitchen then an access point is better option because it's getting Internet from a wired connection. If you have chromecast devices will they be visible on different ssid connections or would they have to all be the same ssid?

There is not drop on the speed of the Internet. But if you have to use an extender is because you cannot connect to your router's WiFi or the connections is weak as is explained on the video. Also you'll have to place the extender within the range of the main Wi-Fi. Some times just a couple feet will be enough for the router and the extender won't be able to communicate each other.
