My cousin had an accident on a scooter with a disc brake at the front and rear, but there was no ABS. They had to brake suddenly and very aggressively during traffic congestion at a point. The tyres locked up instantly and my uncle lost control on the bike. My uncle and cousin fell on the road. Hence, it's just a myth that disc brakes are better than drum brakes. Disc brakes are only better if ABS is at least provided on one tyre. Comparatively, drum brakes won't lock up in that much aggressive manner as disc ones. Drum brakes are ideal if there's no ABS. BTW, my uncle and cousin are safe with just a few minor injuries on the hands, elbow and leg ❤

learn to use the disc. you dont want to put the effort you cant be a better rider. always look farther. keep eyes on road. its not a myth since you never put any effort learning the power of discs. if you use discs like you used the drums you will lock up. i happened to crash my Ntorq with injury to my underside of the left arm scratched up. took 2 months to fully heal. and i did the same complaining just like you are doing now. abs is good but it also acts as an AID than skill. you want to be skillful learn Progressive braking and only 1 finger squeeze. keep the pressure on before engaging the brake where you can feel the bite. practice that and then you can make 2 finger squeeze. never try 3 finger squeeze since that most likely is too much power to the master cylinder where you cant react fast enough to release the pressure hence the crash. Also most Important is the tyre. you re very unlikely to lock up the tyre on non gravel or sand road if you got fresh set of tyres. your 1 finger will be on its limit before you could lock up the tyre. worn out tyres, avoid the sudden brake at all cost. get skillful than complain. and same goes for the car brakes as well. progressive braking and always judging the reaction of whats happening on front.

@@ducatimultistradav4850 Thank you for replying and Glad to know uncle is getting better in his skill. disc brakes especially on scooters are really dangerous becaue of those skinny tyres. scooters usually dont come with ABS units specially on these 125-150cc.The skill and practice is the last thing that saves you. when i changed my Ntorq brake disc to a non petal disc. with the same brake pad the bite became so good that for a microsecond i locked up my front tyre with 2 finger and then quickly released the pressure. it took a good amount of practice. else i could have slipped.

1 more disadvantage that I noticed in drum brakes is in wet situations, they tend to loose their efficiency very rapidly.
@kalmanfilter70568 ай бұрын
This makes no sense to me. How does drum lose efficiency in rain? Drum brakes have brake shoes literally sealed inside the drum unaffected by rain. I've seen old disc brakes with thin rotors and worn out pads that lose efficiency in rain due to the water on the rotor almost acting like a lubricant. But never seen it on a drum

Always check you drum brakes to adjust them and check for wear, or if oil contaminates them. I had one of my rear ones blow out before and lost all brakes. Pay attention to any time you feel a change in your brakes.

What i hate about drum brake is when you adjust it to have more brake the free wheel will not activate anymore and you are going to slow down

I get that as an enthusiast i would want to know all about the longevity, heat dissipation and all the technical differences. But as a laymen with limited budget i would appreciate if you had included which combination one should get? Both drums or single disc without ABS or Single disc with ABS, which is a safer option? It should've been in the "simplified" if you're talking about brakes.

I have a doubt do drum brakes use fluid because it is mentioned a pressurized fluid acts on the drum I think it is mechanical rather than hydraulic
@siddharth_kadu Жыл бұрын
Cars use hydraulic drum brakes and 2 wheelers use mechanical ones
@Dkm337 Жыл бұрын
its the method of how you are actually transferring the force. low end cars do have parking brake that is Drum in the rear are cable operated hence its mechanical. you see hydraulic lines into that brake its hydraulic brake. in normal disc brakes even tho you use fluid to transfer power of your foot to calliper. your caliper extends and retracts which is more of a mechanical movement. replace the fluid with steel wire and spring you can achieve the same operation. Just for simplified answer if you have fluids to transfer load its hydraulic, and steel wires to do the same its mechanical. trucks use pneumatics that is air to drive their brakes, be it calliper-discs or drums, it is a pneumatic system.

The 7" Full width drum brake with twin leading shoes on the 2000+ Bullet 350 was very effective. Almost as effective as a disc brake. They were compatible with the older models too so retrofitting them was a breeze. I was easily able to lock the front wheel all the time. Can't do that anymore, though. I've lost that sense of balance. Also, newer batches of those drums were not perfectly circular and brake shoe quality went down too.
