Bravo! For the first time I feel like FM synthesis has made some sense to me. It's always been a big black box to me, and I've relied mostly on presets, but now I feel empowered to start trying designing sounds myself. Thank you very much!

I'm glad that it helped you to understand basics of FM synthesis. If you think 6 operator FM synth is too complex or confusing, you can start with 4 operator FM synths. I have tutorials for FM4 (iPad app) which is quite easy to learn. Here is the playlist for the FM4 tutorials, kzbin.info/aero/PLS1dRgO-URAOf9Qxw0siaaqoJCUGxXXqc

Background sounds (pads, bells, leads) are awesome beauty and quality! I don't have DX7 now, but I'm planning to buy. Thank you!!
@powerdx73837 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You should definetly get your own DX7 MK1. You won't regret it. Probably the most underrated synth in terms of producing one of most beautiful pads ever!!! It's the most kept secret of the DX7 FM synthesis. Using sine waves only, with clever programming, you can make epic pads that can eat analog poly synths for lunch!!!!!!!! Never undersestimate the power of sine wave!!!!!

Of all the FM synthesis videos I've found in youtube, this is the only one that gives valuable rich content information. Very well done, and thank you for Dexed, it is awesome!

I think this pad sound has used Eagles in "Love will keep us alive" in "Hell freezes over Concert" live - at 4:55

Does all this apply to the DX7 MKiiD as well?

In your opinion does either the DX5 or the DX1 make FM programming easier?
@powerdx73837 жыл бұрын
Hi there, as I never used the DX5 or DX1, so I can't comment on that.
@Andronicus200710 ай бұрын
I saw a DX5 in a music shop once, can't remember the exact price, but it wasn't that much. Idiot me didn't want it because it physically is huge! 😅

This is great.. however, I own the DX9.. so I have 4 OCS, not 6. Do you know where I could get information on understanding the DX9 version of FM Synthesis?

Hi Monster Jazz!! I was wondering what you've been doing. Sorry to hear that you haven't been receiving notifications. This is just one of many DX7 and related videos that I've been uploading for many months.

Just check my other videos, here is the link: kzbin.info/door/qbIk_aESNGiB8gpeJkOYVwvideos My synth collection is gradually expanding to include the Roland D-50 and Korg M1. I did comparisons videos to see how the DX7 can keep up with those mighty hybrid synths!!

+Power - Ok thanks a lot. I will give this one a watch . . .

+Power - So you actually own a D50 and M1 also? I still think the DX is the model which people struggled with most of all.

I have the famous Roland D-50 as well and I actually did the 80's famous digital synths demo with the all 3 great synths, Yamaha DX7, Roland D-50 and Korg M1. Each synth has its own unique characters! Here are the videos: kzbin.info/aero/PLS1dRgO-URANx7za-G2Rr2nNXgg1P6S6B

I bought the D50 first. And loved it. A few months later I bought a DX7 mk1. I Hated it at first, I would probably go as far as to say I wished I hadn't bought it. It was noisy, dirty and the sliders didn't work. I cleaned and repaired it with a view to selling it, and since then, the D50 has hardly been used!
@Andronicus200710 ай бұрын
The D50 is great, but is stuck sonically in 1987 (to some degree). People are still creating fresh, innovative sounds that no other synth can match!
