This video is to show that you are not alone, that all artists feel those doubts and have those thoughts of quitting. This is the process, there's no other way.

I love you! I am in my early 70's and the rental housing market in Canada is impossible. I had to choose between art supplies and food. I cannot do without either. So I have found another way. I must keep working at my art and like Degas - I will die with a brush in my hand. God bless you!

I give up with art because I'm just no good at it. I've tried so hard, but it just isn't happening. I've walked away from it. Art is a talent, simple as. And you obviously have that talent, so carry on, you'll do wonders.

Oh Dries, I’m so sorry for your pain. As an abuse survivor and the mom of a badly bullied, very physically I’ll son, I can identify on many levels. Finally at 45 years old, when everything was falling apart ( I’ll spare details) I ran out of the house on a pouring rainy day. I wanted to end my life but needed to think, how- without having it appear that way. I was concerned for my families well being. ( crazy?). So I saw this little church, and I ducked in there to get out of the rain, and think. I couldn’t eat, sleep, or get a handle on my extreme emotions. I was the sole proprietor or a graphic design business. Very successful. Loved it. Always deadlines. I never missed one! Imagine the details of mom, wife, sole proprietor, sick child, husband worked far away, and my other son needed lots of attention of course. . Sitting in that church I heard, the Gospel. What? ( I had been a positive thinker, splat. A yoga instructor, splat. And I believed in the law of attraction. ) it was mentally and physically draining the life out of me. Trying in my own strength to be good enough. . When they talked about the Cross and what it was all about… they got my attention. . I heard, Ephesians 2: 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s MASTERPIECE, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. BAM; what… we are Gods Masterpiece? His “poema” ( poetry in motion). I wept. Grace is a gift? (is unearned, favor. We can’t work our way or ever be good enough in our own strength. But GOD, knew/ knows that! . I was so tired or striving. Then I heard that, So then: I heard “ that I didn’t have to be perfect, kill misled with good work, and hope for good karma! “ God so LOVED the world ( me personally, you personally) that He gave His one and only Son, that whosoever believed in Him, would not perish but have eternal life.” . I needed forgiveness to forgive and be forgiven AND the power of The Holy Spirit to enable me to forgive all those who hurt me horribly. I was burning the candle at both ends, and making art constantly. It became my identity. It’s an awesome gift given from the ultimate Creator of creators and everything that is made ! Blew my mind, and changed my life. Now no matter whether I’m on the mountaintop or in a valley, my value and worth never changes. My art is an expression on love to the world. It doesn’t run dry. Because…. It doesn’t matter who loves my art, but rather … who is my art meant to love! Oh I could go on and on. Gif bless you honey. I hope you are arrested and overpowered by the love of God in every area of your life. . You are beautiful, lovable and precious, and always have been. Yes paint on but don’t make an idol out of art, because it won’t love you back… but freely you can love others by your beautiful expressions. You are a masterpiece!

Don’t ever quit! It’s in your blood. I didn’t even know I was a painter until last year. I don’t know if I will ever make a living off of it but I’m definitely putting myself out there. I just ordered some business cards and got a website. Art is what brings me true joy and relaxation so even if nobody buys, I’m still happy I made it. Don’t worry about the pressure from society (I am also from Europe and understand the mentality, especially for a woman, to have children) Well, I never had them and I’m 41. Zero regrets. Can’t miss something I never had, can I? You’ll be just fine.

I understand completely. It's hard, I spent my entire life pursuing it and now I'm broke, and need hand surgery. It got me through foster care, and I worked hard at it, even learned all sorts of digital art, did thousands and thousands of drawings and I'm still struggling. At this point I'm probably just gonna give up and throw in the towel, I already sacrificed everything for it. I studied everything , old master paintings, anatomy, perspective, sculpting, and practiced over 10 hours a day, barely sleep and live off coffee and ramen. The fact is life doesn't always work out how you want it to. I have nothing to show for it and can't even afford to see a doctor right now. It's more than thinking about wanting to quit everyday I even thought constantly about ending my life.

What separates you from all the artists that fail is that you have an incredible work ethic. Are very good at connecting with people (networking). Have a great business mindset and a good brain. You do not have to become a David Hockney if you can survive on art alone you basicaly already live the artist dream and I think you are close to that or already in that.

It was a military type of sport school it's called V.I.L.O. in Belgium. I'm not sure if it still exists and I think they where forced to change their educational system a couple of years ago because of obvious reasons. I go in to it a bit more in another video on this channel it's called I'm 28 years old and have no friends . It's kind of a depressing video so I wouldn't recommend it to be honest.

YES YES YES!!! Thanks for sharing and that final sentiment - Art is the basic necessity. Art is Life. I have a fairly successful art career and think about quitting all the time...BUT I absolutely cannot think of anything doing anything else. I can't stand the thought of doing anything. Every time I think of getting a regular job...it hits me... " What is the point of life if I settle into a regular 9-5 job that I don't love"...I don't see a point at all. The massive challenge of doing art for a living is worth the cost of losing my soul. Thank you for the validation and the major inspiration of how you overcame so much!

Art and creativity runs through our blood. It’s in our dna. It’s hardwired into our brains and into the way we perceive reality. Try shutting that down. Quitting is impossible! True artists (and I’m not talking about fake artists or rather business men and women) are BORN that way. You cannot stop.
@driesketels

What's wrong about being a business men and an artist? Can't that be a true artist as well?
@memememineme
@memememineme 3 жыл бұрын
@@driesketels Of course there is absolutely nothing wrong with it but I do differentiate between the two however. An artist creates because he HAS to and will continue to make art regardless of sales and “success”. A business person makes art to turn it into money. Big difference which affects the work made. Paint for yourself and not the market just because you need cash otherwise the market will begin to dictate what you paint - and that is very hard to avoid. If you need cash get a side job and keep painting for yourself. If you sell what you painted for yourself then you have stayed true and your work will remain authentic. You will feel so satisfied and know you did not change for anyone just because you knew it would sell. Basically don’t sell your soul. When I say ‘you’ I mean me! Lol! It’s not personal! Anyway love your channel! And yes I have thought about quitting many times but I continue to perceive the world through artists eyes, and it’s impossible not to. The wheels just keep right on turning… I guess it is possible to stop PRODUCING art though - or is it?? I haven’t been able too… 😂

I think of quiting everyday. I earn $0 from my work and whatever i do never affects that number. The passion i once felt with painting has gone and ideas are hard to come by. It still relaxes me and i sometimes like my final outcomes, but what else could i do, I'm 35 and art is the only thing I've enjoyed improving myself in.

I stubbornly continue on even though I should quit. I don't enjoy the process of drawing, and I have no desire to switch mediums/art forms either. I've been told I should quit several times, I've been told art is not for me, I've been told to find something else. But I want to draw more than anything else, so I try anyway. Even though It's better if I quit.

Dreams and the love that sustains them do not disappear on command....I think we may at times change our expression of them.... Us boring person too 😅 I thought it was cool when I read that even when Matisse got sick, he didn't stop creating, but made his beautiful cut outs. I guess people could've said to him....you're too old and too sick....it won't sell....why bother.....🤔 Society talks too much 😂 Good video.

Some lawyers would pick this case up for a percentage of the settlement you get and work for free until that happens. Especially if you are a prominent artist with awards and articles written about your work. Because that helps their career too.
@driesketels
@driesketels 3 жыл бұрын
Seriously? Work on percentage of settlement? Lawyers do that? Also in western countries where there pay is naturally already very high?
@HalkerVeil
@HalkerVeil 3 жыл бұрын
@@driesketels Yep. In a contingent fee arrangement, the lawyer agrees to accept a fixed percentage, often one-third to 40 percent, of the recovery, which is the amount finally paid to the client. If you win the case, the lawyer's fee comes out of the money awarded to you. If you lose, you pay nothing. It's win win lose. (The bad guys lose) Not all lawyers do it. But many do. Not sure about your country but it's a very common practice around the world. I've had this arrangement from a car accident in the US. It's cases they're not sure they could win where they don't do it. So the guys who did that to you would have trouble getting a lawyer that way. Too bad for them.
@driesketels
@driesketels 3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's impressive. I would probably sign that in no time haha XD. Is there a place where I would be able to apply for something like this or is this something that you cannot really apply for? How do lawyer and client usually find each other in a situation like this?
@HalkerVeil
@HalkerVeil 3 жыл бұрын
@@driesketels You ask lawyers if they accept that. You tell them your case and what happened, they say yes or no. Or they might know someone who would take it. Edit: To me it sounds like you would have your pick of lawyers. Because you are technically a high profile case being an artist with awards. Might even gain some headlines out of it. Which benifits that lawyer too. Not that it should be about gaining fame or anything.
@MurphyArtPrints
@MurphyArtPrints 3 жыл бұрын
@@driesketels I had a case where I used contingency before. To find them I googled "contingency attorneys" in my local area. Quite a few law firms do it. There is no signup it's just the agreement you sign with that law firm after a free consultation. It is similar to services like Pixsy that do the same agreement for online art theft. Very different case but same principale. They handle the whole case for you at 50% of any settlements if their web crawlers find someone else using your art online. And you pay nothing if they don't succeed. 50% Seems like a high fee but for doing almost nothing it's great. Can actually make more money from that than selling art. If your case is older they may have ways around it. Some violent crimes never have a statute of limitations.

wait a second... you allowed other children to do this to you as a child? what country was this, and why did u let this happen? I would say the worst that happened was the punch in the head, that kept you from living for two years. and the best thing is your mother, helping you thru these lowest times. You are very young, stay on track, live your life, keep making as much art as you can and want, just don't let art get between you and your important relationships.
