Does it, though? Recently tried the ClimbPro feature on my Garmin when I took a cycling vacation in the mountains and I have to say I was very underwhelmed/disappointed. It's been so unreliable and inconsistent that it's just straight up useless to me.

Watching this you might think this is new, but in fact Garmin had Climb Pro years ago. Would be interesting to compare and see the difference. Did Wahoo managed to catch up.
@JackFou6 ай бұрын
Having recently cycled in the mountains, I have to say I was rather disappointed with climbpro. I found it quite unreliable... while some climbs were bang on, others were wildly off. In the worst cases, the start of a climb was marked when there was still a kilometre of downhill to go and then the climb on my Garmin would end halfway through the actual uphill section of the road. It's also a bit unclear to me why a certain climb was or wasn't registered as a climb in climbpro. There were definitely a few bits of uphill that were either steeper or longer (or both) than some of the climbs that were recognised. Oh and don't get me started on the gradient profile... could be an issue with the map data Garmin has but it might as well have been a random number generator for what it's worth. Maybe it's an issue with certain regions that Garmin hasn't covered all that well or maybe it really only works on longer climbs (10+ km). But at least from my (limited) experience so far, it's so quirky and full of inconsistencies that I couldn't rely on it at all to pace myself for the ride or even just any given climb.

Great video and superb scenery. Was just thinking of upgrading my head unit to the Roam V2 the other day. It'll show you an ETA on the Garmin too, but I think the ride needs to be following a route so it knows which way you're going :0

I have multiple problems with this climb stuff.They should really allow you more customization overall like make some at least some of the firmware open to modify to your hearts desire. OK problems: - with climb pro on the device seems way more likley to crash/reboot - cant remove the stop watch data field (i hate seconds counting while riding for hours) - when disabling automatic page switch notes are somewhat uselsess and you cant switch to the page manualy + love my drink reminder - need more reminder options e.g. battery below/above x% idea: they could use colored background of other field as progress bar. Meaning slowly fill up background of speed to indicate % distance done.

I found the feature to be quiet lacking. Start and Finish of the Segments where extremly odd (sometimes the segment started a way before the climb and ended after you already had to descend. Noticed that on multiple climbs in south/east italy.
@BikePappy6 ай бұрын
I’ll have to agree with this. Northwest Italy in Bormio and Tuscany region as well - I have screenshots of mild “green” climbs showing as 55 degree climbs and 11579 VAM or more severe “red-orange” climbs showing as -80 degrees with -5616 VAM. This is on a preloaded route. This feature does not work reliably as shown in this video. The numbers are all over the place.

@Cycle.every.day.6 ай бұрын
Some of us pointed out it seemed too big for Ollie on its first appearance , but we were told him and Canyon know best , but i still say it's too big for him , long top tube forcing him to ride with straight arms.
@dakalla6 ай бұрын
It's a long and low aero bike with a fairly horizontal top tube. If you then have a little shorter legs, longer torso and actually ride a correct saddle hight, thats how the seat post will look like. I have very similar sizing to Ollie and a 54 or S frame in Canyons sizing is too low for my abilities. Could only ride it with a lot of stack and longer stem, so that the seatpost sticks out more? I prefer the bigger size then.

My Garmin 530 has a similar feature for climbs but the gps needs a route for the feature to work. I like Wahoo’s design that will still recognize a climb even without a route programmed. My friends have pricier Garmins. I think 1050 - one has the solar cells in the bezel. We always see different number of climbs. My 530 might say 7 climbs and theirs will have a different number, say 5 climbs. And yes, for the same route. Seems a bit odd. And if I remember, the 530 always shows more climbs than their 1050 (or whatever). The Wahoo looks like the gps to get, in my opinion.

The Garmin Edge x40 series computers (540/840/1040) all have predictive climb tech like Wahoo. So does Hammerhead on the Karoo 2 and the new Karoo. I have the Edge 840 and the Karoo 2 and the climb predicting features are amazingly helpful. Wahoo actually played catch-up to the others here, and their implementation is good. The TL;DR here is that any current-generation GPS computer from the big three brands will do well for folks who want to climb, set custom alerts (Garmin more so than Hammerhead), and the like.

No reason why Wahoo can't add some of these new features into the v1 Roam, i.e., the new gopro controls. Pisses me off, I don't think my next head unit will be a Wahoo.
@Ok_Rouleur6 ай бұрын
I used to have them in v1, have you looked at the configuration screen in the app ?
@songfta6 ай бұрын
The limitation on the v1 computers is a combination of processor and RAM. The climbing prediction feature requires a more detailed base map with elevation data - it's a *big* file. And the GoPro stuff, while probably not processor or memory intensive, likely only gets QA tested with the latest hardware. But eventually there's only so much a company will offer in terms of backwards compatibility due not only to the burden of supporting older hardware (it can get really bad when there are multiple processors and memory configurations out there, not to mention 32 bit versus 64 bit operating systems), but also the drive to sell new units.
@Ok_Rouleur6 ай бұрын
I definitely had these features in the Roam v1 that I bought in November 21. The memory was pretty big and had no problem with files up to 200km including turn-by-turn and climbs. The features appeared after a software update. Unfortunately the screen got detached after 2 years, 2 weeks after the end of guaranty (and much use) but Wahoo replaced it free of charged with a v2. I’m very grateful for their customer care and will stick to their products. I’m sorry yours doesn’t provide these features.

There is a very real need in society to move away from integration and reliance on Microsoft. A computer I recently bought for my Dad was a great example of what I'm saying. I couldn't use the thing to serve me needs. There was no DVD/CD drive so I couldn't use that input method to load Linux onto it. I tried my best, but I failed to configure the BIOS to search for a bootable device from the USB drive. There were no screws to take the fking computer apart to unplug the internat hard drive to force a boot from the USB interface. The fucking monitor was integrated with the computer itself. If one breaks I can't fix it myself, and I have to pay to replace both items as opposed to one or the other. I'd have to use a fking butter knife to attempt to open the damn thing and obviously scratch things all up, if not break the whole system. In order to load the fking OS, which was predatory Microsoft, I had to have my Father's Gmail password, which was unknown due to his old age. Google is now integrated with Microsoft. Facebook is integrated with KZbin. Our country is supposed to protect us all against monopolies. We are supposed to live in a democracy. It is all imposture nowadays. The oligarchs are scamming us all. And people, generally being sheep as opposed to wolves, are letting them get away with it. Lets not forget our best core value ever: Simple kindness, not technology.
