It's easy to be frustrated and impatient, especially when you're stressed. But the day I was diagnosed with cancer and was freaking out, especially because I had recently moved to a new state and had no family or close friends here, and my thoughts were reeling about what I would do if I needed a lot of help--a checkout clerk was kind to me, and it was such a small thing but because of my circumstances it had a HUGE impact. I can't remember what exactly she said, if anything, it may have just been her demeanor and smile, but I will never forget how it made me feel. I later heard a quote, something to the effect of "Be kind. Everyone you meet is going through some struggle you know nothing about." Words to live by, even though it's hard to remember in our day-to-day lives.

Damn! I never would have guessed, that at 1:12 pm today, that I would be flooding my chest with tears. I am going to show this to so many people, if their willing that is. I've been in a similar situation. when my brother was hanging out w/ bad people, they told him to do and take bad things. and that impacted the whole family, especially me. I became paranoid about the people around me, and got teased and bullied because I was paranoid, and my brother doing bad stuff. when my mom came to school with me, she made the bullies cry cuz they felt so bad. so don't judge people cuz you don't know what's happening in their life.

I think it's about UNDERSTANDING THE BIG PICTURE. we all have problems. to be so self involved and not see from someone else's eyes. or never to walk in someone else's shoes. TO UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ACT AND TREAT OTHERS THE WAY THEY DO. I'm a truck driver. Cali to texas n back to cali mostly. Other day i was in Gallup, NM. Went inside loves travel stop & was in line. Young native american came up asking for a ride to Holbrook, AZ. First i said MY PIT BULL WON'T LET YOU IN, i always say that to get a reaction so i can get a feel for who they are. Got positive reaction n said JUST PLAYING I'LL GIVE YOU A RIDE. Come to findout we had few things in common. I knew as for family situation and through his stories he doesn't have much of a family in terms of love and compassion. Exchanged numbers and shook hands. But b4 we departed i told him SHERIDAN YOU GOTTA WORRY FOR YOU. DON'T WORRY BOUT OTHERS CUZ RITE NOW YOU CAN'T TAKE CARE YOURSELF. HELPING PPL IS GREAT BUT WHOSE HELPING YOU...he replied YOU DID AND YOU BEEN GREAT TO ME.. GREAT ADVICE ALSO YOU'VE GIVEN ME..well hell he got me their cuz hecdid answer my question correctly. We still chat to this day. Other night he texted me bout a problem he has. Always try to help someone sometime and all the time. Look at this world, look at america and the direction its going. Stand together as one... As one stand for all

Several years ago, on a very hot Summer day I was getting out of my truck when I accidently knocked over my bag of groceries that spilled onto the parking lot. A couple of young men helped me pick it up. They were obviously homeless. I gave them each a dollar, and offered them a couple of ice cold beers I had just bought. They were very nice and thanked me. Two years later, in a different parking lot, a smiling young man walked up to me and handed me two cold beers. He just said, "Thank You! I'm doing good now!", and got in his old car and drove off with a big grin and a wave. My friend who was with me thought that was weird, until I tearfully explained that two years ago that man was homeless. I was so touched that he remembered me! It takes so little to show compassion to others.

We should be freely sharing, caring, helping, loving, guiding each other through our pitifully short lives. Not giving in to cupidity and subservience. +Anon E Moose ... smh. That attitude is partly why we wallow in lawlessness, theft, murder and more and i'm not simply talking about that which is happening on our streets and in our schools. This includes those who take it upon themselves to call themselves, kings and queens and emperors and ministers and presidents and preachers... and on the list goes. Why be civil to someone you don't respect? If there is a problem/attitude/code causing you not to respect someone, would you go out of your way to respect that persons' p.o.v or that persons' rights to be say or do what they wish? Not automatically respecting anyone you meet and expecting them to earn that respect means, that person is automatically inferior to you and has to earn the right to be treated as your equal. Simply being civil means, "i tolerate your presence for now but you really don't matter until you've *earned* my respect". What gives any human being the right to think they are above another, simply because they themselves blindly adhere to a rule made by those who think themselves superior? *sigh* You're welcome to have that attitude though. After all, you're more educated, earn more money, have a better home and life, have the right bloodline and/or ethnic background and therefore can demand someone *earn* your respect. Why "give something away when someone can earn it from you"?

I am an old woman now and I need an assistive device to walk. You cannot imagine how it warms my tired heart when a teenager holds a door for me. There was a time there that it seemed kids would rush in front of you, near knocking you down, but for the last year or so, even groups of young teens, always male, would open doors for me. I raised my kids to do that for anyone having a hard time walking and I feel blessed to encounter young people who learned the same lesson.
