That my dear friend? would be what most fans call a "double whammy". You just got a dose of the Henk Effect and Foorgasmed in the same setting. Floor Jansen, called The Valkyrie Queen, among others by most is currently the main female singer of a Symphonic Metal band called Nightwish. Henk Poort or "Uncle Henk" as the contestants on Beste Zangers call him is a big time Dutch opera singer that not only played Eric in The Phantom of the Opera but is also Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom. Henk wanted to do something special for Foor, whom of which is a huge huge fan of his so for the first time ever he learned how to do vocal fry/distortion to honor her. The first time he did it is when he sang The Sounds of Silence on Beste Zangers for Floor and the second time? Well, you just heard it. He agreed to the duet on one condition. If he gets to sing it again with Floor during Nightwish's 2020 concert in the Netherlands. Floor happily accepted and the rest? as you see is beautiful metallic history my friend.

The whole show is worth watching this season. Of course, Floor tends to be the highlight of every episode. When I watched this performance in particular, I was waiting for that last note. Floor had tried singing this piece before, but she didn't quite hit the last note that time; this time she didn't just hit it, she ended it with a slight vibrato. That shows that as great as she is, she keeps working in improving herself. Henk is an opera singer, not used to sing popular music or rock, but in another episode of this show, his performance of Disturbed's version of "The sound of silence" is a master piece.

Beste zangers is a great show and it made floor jansen hugely populair in the netherland(6 years after her amazing performance at wacken with nightwish) she did a tour in the netherlands beginning this year( where she broke down at the song strong as her mum was in the audience) anyway the concept of the program is that there are 6 dutch singers and each night one person is on the couch with presentator jan smit and the rest of the singers perform a song which is related to him of her( could be their own song or a song which they are connected with or like)...at the end of the night the person on the couch tells jan who impressed the most( so its not a competition)..very smart they always show the faces/reactions of the other singers....floor will amaze you she did it all sang in dutch, german,english and even in spanish! The band( fischer band) is also great( floor took them to assist her on her dutch tour)...the last episode are the duets and this epic and best version of the phantom was on there! All performances of floor are worth watching( vilja lied in german for her idol uncle henk poort,winner for tim akkerman( raise your hands!), que ..for rolf sanchez,shallow for emma heesters,mamma for samantha) henk poorts sound of silence is great,strong by emma heesters( which made floor get emotional) and the nightwish cover nemo by tim akkerman is also pretty dope....enjoy🤘👍

Your initial reaction was the same for most of her fellow countrymen who hardly knew her or only had heard of her as that metal singer singing in a metal band from Finland but never heard her music. About this tv show: the concept is to take a group of professional singers from various genres, get them to an exotic location for a week and record one episode every day in which one of them is the “guest of honour”. The others then sing either a song that is by the guest of honour or is special to them. The final episode is where various singers perform duets with each other. This duet was actually the final one recorded and shown as the final performance of the 2019 season. And it became a runaway hit across social media in the Netherlands straight away, the whole season led to a solo tour by Floor early this year plus it boosted ticket sales for Nightwish considerably. Every single Floor performance from this season has been stellar and please look up the full clips incl. commentary with subtitles. Very much worth it to check out because you get to know her and the other singers a bit more and especially what motivated the choice of song. Also of interest is the episode that centers around Floor (she doesn’t sing in it) where the rest sing for her. Especially Emma Heesters performance of Floor’s own song Stronger (she wrote it for her first band After Forever and it is about her mother) is memorable. Floor has always been a huge fan of Henk Poort, him being the original Dutch performer of The Phantom. He agreed to this duet on one condition and that is that he can do it again with Floor at the next Nightwish concert in the Netherlands. However she also invited Henk to tag along as special guest on her solo tour earlier this year.

Henk Poort has actually done the phantom of the opera twice on stage so it is something he knows well i do like how the sing it in their own styles at the start with floor making it slightly rock like at the start and henk singing it classical and then in the last half the swap with floor switching to almost fully clasical/operatic and henk giving his best at singing it more rock.

Oh and I had a funny thought. Floor was born in the Netherlands (as well as a good friend of hers, Simone Simons). The Netherlands is/ was also known as Holland. In that country, they speak the Dutch language. Floor was in a couple of bands from there. And we already know that she sings in English more than any other language so far. She then ended up in Nightwish, a Finnish band, so I THINK she may have learned some Finnish language (or maybe not, since the other members speak English as well). Now she is married to a Swede, Hannes Van Dahl (the drummer from Sabaton) so now she moved to Sweden and is learning to speak Swedish. She is a mother now and their daughter Freja is going to be a musical beast! Then there is this show, Beste Zangers, where Floor sang in German, English, Spanish and Dutch! Lots of differnet place names! :)

Beste Zangers can be translated as Best Singers, as in the cream of the crop, but also as Dear Singers, as in the start of a letter, a way to address the singers. The show is all about 7 vocalists from a wide variety of different musical backgrounds coming together to celebrate the power of music itself in its ability to connect and emotionally touch people. It's not so much about celebrating each other's careers as not everyone has a long career to look back on, yet. Everyone gets an episode in the spotlight. During each episode we get to know each vocalist by learning about their childhood and musical upbringing, their inspirations, the forming of their musical direction, gradually moving on in their career to the point in life they're currently in. Each of the other vocalists perform a song, adapted to their own style, that is written by or otherwise has great personal meaning to the singer in the spotlight. After all performances, the singer in the spotlight chooses the one performance that had the most emotional impact. However, it's not a competition. It's all about love, respect and admiration for the music and each other. In the final episode everyone does a duet with a singer of choice, so it's possible a singer gets chosen by another singer and can do more than 1 duet. I like that it's a heavy version of the original and a light version of the Nightwish cover :p I absolutely loved this song ever since I first saw the musical, but I always hated that soft ass orchestration with the dated 80s electric guitar sound. It always felt like the song was "screaming" for a heavier arrangement and that's one of the reasons I love the Nightwish cover so much. That and Marco as the Phantom are the big ones.

He sang it because Floor loves the disturb version. Henk is a Dutch operasinger, He's 61 I believe, but what a voice! In the same show you must listen to Floor singing Shallow, Winner , Mama and Don’t know a thing about love. In this shows they sing songs from each otter but also to the one. Also listen to Emma Heesters( that’s the blond Girl) singing Floors song ‘Strong’ to Floor. Floor gets emotional. Moastly the songs has a lot of mening to the one who original wrote / sang it.

You said you wanted to hear what the other singers said before and after. In that case, you should watch the performances uploaded by Jenniezelf, she has included a few minutes before and after each song (with English subs). The quality is not the best, but it's good enough. Here's the link to the first song on the show, Vilja Lied, Floor opening the entire thing: Beste Zangers: They collect a bunch of well-known Dutch singers and put them together and let them sing for each other. Some years it's OK, some years not. 2019 they invited Floor (who is Dutch, even though she's in the Finnish band Nightwish and lives in Sweden) and the show was a super-success and Floor suddenly became famous in Netherlands (Dutch radio NEVER plays metal, so she wasn't known there before). Here in the Netherlands we could go outside, during the whole ‘lockdown’, to exercise. Floor is amazing. Have a look at the Vilja song from the same program. Zangers is not pronounced as Sänger (Deutsch) but the A schould sound like the A in car.

Floor sang "Vilja Lied" and the first to sing for Henk Poort. it is from an opera it think. she sings it in German and does and amazing job.

Oh, I have been waiting for this reaction and here it is! Needless to say, the voices, the acting of both Floor and Henk are amazing! The whole performance strikes the eyes, the ears and gives the audience that warm feeling of joy and satisfaction of being involved into it. I can only guess why but Henk's final "Sing for me" on the background of Floor's vocalise hits me every single time to my bones. Regarding your muscle pain - oh, I absolutely love this after gym feeling. Loved this whole season. This was Floor's dream since she was a little girl. Singing the Phantom of the Opera with THE Henk Poort. The Dutch original Phantom and Andrew Lloyd Webber's favorite Phantom. Henk Poort sings The Sound of Silence on the show for her and she's totally fangirling out on the couch. It's adorable. lol.

Beste Zangers is an amazing show. I often say that we have no good singers in our little country, but then this show comes in and is like 'u sure about that, hun?' and makes me question everything. Then again, I do know what Floor can do, so I'm not sure why it even surprises me that there's some powerful voices around here (grew up a few streets away from Ilse de Lange, and she's not 100% bad either although I wouldn't call myself a fan). Best thing about this show is that it's not a competition, it's just a few amazing singers coming together and singing songs for each other. Floor got the most attention, but all of them were freaking amazing.

For me this is The Duet of the Century. The loud cracking sound in the beginning is a real thunder. There was a real thunderstorm when these singing titans met. Notice the wet floor and leaking roof. 😜 Great stuff!

This one broke the internet when it hit KZbin. It was the LAST performance of the season in 2019 (they call it Season 12 for the show). Did you hear the thunder in the very beginning of the video? That's not a sound effect for the song, it was actually a storm rolling into Ibiza while they were still recording that night. They were ending the show for the season anyway so they just kept recording. If you look at the video very closely you will see places where the rain was leaking through the tent roof during this duet. Just a fun little FYI. :)

The entire series for 2019 was incredible. Floor sang in 3 or 4 different languages and she nailed each performance. The rest of the cast was also incredible, some highlights included Henk Poort singing Sound of Silence, and Henk and Emma Heesters singing a duet that was incredible. thank you for that reaction, I loved seeing your face when Floor hit that last note.

Haha..nice to see your reaction😁 The audience, they are all singers, they all sung songs from eachother for each other..check it out. They all did a great job. The first song from this show was Floor singing 'Vilja lied' for Henk, as the first episode was his day. For all the other singers it was the first time they heard Floor sing, so i suggest to start with ' vila Lied' where Floor sings in ...German..!!! Auf Deutsch gehts!!

Germany has this show to. Sing meinen song, with this year our Dutch singer Ilse de Lange. All Floor's songs are amazing but don't forget the songs they sing for Floor. Emma with Strong, Ruben with They dance alone, Henk Sound of Silence and so on. Duet Henk with Emma is also gorgeous. Liebe deine Kommentare.

Most of the singers there on that TV show(they are all popular singers there, xept Floor (because her form of music), never heard of Nightwish before Floor was added to the show, I think one of them had heard of what form of metal she was, someone who knows the whole story, could tell you. Can assume now, they know who she is now, with respect. heh heh

the reason floor jansen was not very known here is not cause of her voice but because the type of music she sings is not very much or mb even never played on radio here. This was for her also reason to join on this show , this is very popular show here and so she could let hear what it sounds like. good if you do more of this show. mb try following songs. The younger blond is EMMA HEESTERS. she is youtuber with 2,4 mln subscribers. try her with STRONG and LIEFDE VOOR ALTIJD. try from 2018 operasinger MARIA FISELIER sining LOSE YOURSELF and try finaly the duet of GLEN FARIA with TRIJNTJE OOSTERHUIS singing IMAGINE , the classic of john lennnon. that i have not mentioned FLOOR here is coz i think you will find her songs easyer.

Perhaps the best performance of this song. Completely competes with the version presented by Nightwish. Floor is staggering here and I am privileged that she visited in my dream last night. I look forward to what it means. My dreams have tended to come true in some form.

About this Phantom of the Opera having heavier instrumentation: Maybe they took Tuomas Holopainen's arrangement that Nightwish used to perform with Tarja Turunen? Nightwish covered it in 2002 on the album Century Child. The heavier male vocals at the end also fit the heavy style. End of an Era DVD (from Nightwish's last concert with Tarja, hours before they sacked her) has a good live rendition of Phantom and Marko really shines in it.
