He is her hero since she saw him perform in "The Phantom of the Opera". Just imagen, your hero singing for you and he even learned to distort his voice for this performance (the first time he did that live, hence the reason he was so nervous and not the uncle Henk they knew). You can see the surprised looks when he starts singing distorted.

Well, i am not the biggest fan of the sony anymore (listen to oft to it) but what impresses me so extremly is his voice. It is so amazing clear. Never heard someone like him. I am really totalla flashed. Also in the duet with Floor, "The Phantom of the opera", he had an extremly clear voice. Really really impressed. And i don´t say that often.

I agree with your comment on how well it is written... it is full of classic music construction vibes, reminds me of this classic piece "Nimrod" from Edward Elgar's Enigma variations : starts low, then climbs in a long drawn crescendo, then just as it hits the top, it falls down to the lowest point in an instant in the end... reminds me of how you feel just after you won a race or reached the top of a mountain... Epic !

I saw it live in January - was a good deal better than this "original" version, partly due to the atmosphere of the venue. But Henk obviously had done some practicing in the meantime... absolute goosebumps! With the lighting of the stage you could really think of a slightly older David Draiman sitting there.

It had to sink in, and Henk had to make it fully his own version. The transitions are much better and there is far more connection to the context of the song in his later performances.

No! David is a baby Henk Poort. Henk has been wowing thousands, before David was a glimmer in his parents eye.

@@buttthecat1354 That's quite an exaggeration to say the least. The two of them are just 17 years apart, and Henk was a rather late starter when it comes to professional musicianship. He first appeared in the early 1990s, not too many years before Disturbed came to being. David was in his late teens / early 20s at the time Henk did the Phantom. And actually both of them had to do something they had never done before for this song - David had to learn the clean baritone style, and Henk the opposing side, the screaming.

Now I've enjoyed your reactions to Beste zangers, but....you're a bit 2 focused on 2019 and Floor I see. There are some other hidden gems in the beste zangers series. Try O'G3ne with Clown 4 instance or Tommie Christiaan &Tania Kross with Barcelona. I guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised 😁.

He covered it quite well for it not being his practiced best - the Phantom of the Opera, not just on Beste Zangers, but professionally. For Sound of Silence, it was neither as haunting as the original, nor as heart-wrenching as Disturbed, at least for me, but it was an amazing cover! Thanks for sharing it with us!

@@iScripters I used to feel the same way, but Melinda/Twisted Translations opened my mind a bit. When someone needs auto-tune to hit a note, you can instantly tell. There's exactly one note that catches bad attention in Disturbed's music video shortly after he changes octaves. No singer can hold 100% prefect pitch on a long note; it wavers at least 5% of the time. In some styles, this wavering style is fine - even preferred, but in others a slight clean up sounds better. So long as it's a style choice and not a necessity, a singer still has my respect. I'll definitely grant that Disturbed lost a point at "naked light" but I respectfully disagree on it being game over.

nope, he doesn`t sound like david. henks voice has a much richer and warmer tone than davids. david has one strong part in this song, henk is great the whole time, despite the fact, he sings with distortion the first time in his life. but still, disturbed did a great job, bringig this song back to life.
