Upgrading a Land Rover Discovery 4 steering wheel to Paddle Shift

Hi guys, I changed my D3 HSE steering wheel to a D4 with paddle shift. In order to get all the switches to function correctly, (on my D3), in the same format, I had to change the circuit boards on the rear of the switch modules. It may sound scary, but trust me, it's an absolute doddle. These circuit boards are available from 'blackbox solutions' on line. These new circuit boards then give D3 owners the ability to use paddle shift, with another gadget. The clever guys at blackbox have created a wireless way to get around re-mapping. You simply plug the rf transmitter onto the LH circuit board and wire-in the rf receiver to the loom on the transmission shift, centre console. Instructions are provided, and are really simple. Hey presto,....D4 functionality with paddle shift (Manual sport mode). All the regular switches work correctly, the circuit boards re-route the connections to suite the D3. I believe anyone with a D4 can carry out the same process if you can't, or don't want to change the CCF. Basically a diy project. took me around an hour on my D3. Have fun !!

Just an FYI for those who attempt this. I bought the T-handle airbag removal tool, and found it impossible to get the hook in behind the release bar. After spending over an hour messing with it, I decided that the tip of the tool might be too long, and that it might be preventing the tool from getting to where it needs to be. After grinding down the tip of the tool slightly, it was easily able to fit behind the bar and it was very easy to capture and pull bar to release the air bag. Not a big deal, but figured I would share this in case anyone has a similar issue.

I tried this today with Kate and it is tricky. We had 2 tools one ground down and one "off the shelf" and we managed to do this with both tools. But thanks for the feedback.

Do you have to ask the GAP guys to write the custom CCF for you? I've just upgraded to an original steering wheel with heater and paddle shift on my '11 D4, enabled heater and paddle shift in the CCF on my IID BT tool, but the heater and paddle shift still won't work.

Hi - did you upgrade the clock spring ? sometimes the clock spring for the non heated steering wheel is not fitted with the wires for the heated steering wheel

Great video! I have a Freelander LR2 with the same steering wheel. Will this upgrade work as well for it? I could't help my anxiety and bought second hand Range Rover paddles and back cover listed in ebay.. I hope this works.

@@denismilinkovic7894 I was told it wont work. The ECU may receive the paddle input but it needs to be reprogrammed to change shifts with the input. Also saw some videos if the LR4 with paddle not working properly (shows manual shift but don't change). Still have the LR2 so got used to it as is.
