Chevrolet has released their Silverado EV pickup, it weighs 3860kgs unladen. What an efficient way to “save” the planet. Its ridiculous.

The law will need to change to allow cars to be heavier. But it is a viscous circle - more range = bigger batteries = heavier = less efficient = less range. I think probably electric is best suited to smaller cars. Other technologies for larger cars...

A friend of mine had a Toyota van in the 90s that didn't have a proper internal handle. He opened his door and the wind took hold and slammed the door against the car next to him. He had to wait for the owner to return to give him his details. Designers need to think of this when Designing vehicles.

Don’t like the unprotected kit under the vehicle by rear wheels - I agree potentially a bad situation with water/stuff attacking the gear down there.

I am not sure that the final vehicles will be the same - they may have a cover over them ? but even so this does not seem a good plate to locate these parts with all the potential space they have under the truck ?

Interesting car. There is no wonder the EU manufacturers are struggling so much. While this isn't my cup of tea, the Chinese cars have super quality finishes these days, and packed with lots of features as standard. My wife has been driving an Ora EV from GWM, and it's just a cheap £185 lease, but the quality and range are perfect for her daily commute. A better finish than my ID7, and thats a good car. The other manufacturers will have to up' their game, as China and South Korea are taking over their sales rapidly.

I really want an electric pickup. But in the UK we are currently, extremely limited. So I'll stick with my, 08, Mitsubishi l200 Animal. Totally faultless vehicle.

The new ford ranger hybrid is pointless. They missed the point of ev. It should have been an ev with a range extending engine, not a driven engine with a motor.

I am sure you are not alone... but Land Rover will be heading the same way soon. For off roading electric is a dream come true... 1) Massive Torque 2) Low centre of gravity 3) perfect 50/50 weight balance 4) simple drivetrain 5) no gearbox 6) no clutch 7) no transfer box 8) potential to do tank turns on the spot 9) loads of interior space. An electric Land Rover Defender would be unstoppable...

Hello Simon….it is useful vehicle but too big and not suited for my use.it looks good enough but that battery range is not going to win friends for a while. The badge is huge…but I keep thinking LDV which may not be the intention. I spot the nice new Festive pullover!!. Off subject….my poor RRS has been injured after my neighbours roof tiles blew off. The repair costs are going to be c.£12000!!!!…..yet from three metres away you cannot spot what is wrong. It needs new A pillar covers, a windscreen, both off side, side windows, OSR door as the small dent is unrepairable, divers door mirror complete and an off side respray due to various small chips. Will I keep it???…..my SVO palette colour is a big worry….we shall see.😬😬😬🫣🫣🫣

The chinese did buy LDV but liked the Maxus name more - so dropped the LDV in favour of Maxus ! Sorry to hear about the damage to the car...maybe the insurance will write it off ?

@@L663 Hello Simon….thank you! The estimate from JLR for the repairs is £10282.36 plus environmental and recycling charges..” Think about £12000”. GULP…No they have not written it off but it was only a smashed sunroof away I believe. It fact I cannot understand how the roof survived untouched but I guess it was just luck. If it wasn’t for the dent in the door, it is just fitting new plastic parts but now we get to include stripping the existing door and refitting everything in a brand new one (£1500+vat). It might be uninsurable for me next time so I fear it may have to go and get the Yaris Hybrid in Interesting Beige of misery.😭😭😭😭🫣🫣🫣😃….or an X5 50e PHEV!
